I have just upgraded mine to the 4000, mostly because it offers 6 auxiliary ports instead of 2. In addition it will display trending information which is very useful to know for CHT's when taxing around. My question is, if I wanted to monitor all 4 CHT's, where can I put the other 2 sensors. The engine only has a place for 2. Would under the head bolt work, or, is it possible to get it under the spark plug. Paul

The higher RPM (eg: 5300) doesn't seem to improve my cruise speed much but does add to the noise level. --> Europa-List message posted by: DuaneFamly@aol.com Good day All, Question - for those that are flying or are past the wing angle of incidence setup stage.... the two wing spar pins that hold the wings together to the CM......one is a nice smooth PIP pin while the other is a threaded bolt with an Allen wrench welded to it. Have people changed this threaded bolt to the PIP pin, or some other more suitable pin? I have set the wings in place twice now and while the PIP pin is still a little snug to get in, I can do it. While the other side snags on the threaded portion until my wife joggles the wings in order for it to get into place. Am I not seeing some use for the threaded bolt that comes later on? --> Europa-List message posted by: "Cliff Shaw" <flyinggpa@comcast.net> Mike I think you missed a step. On both Europas I have built, I cut the threads off that bolt. It still may be a tight fit. Some people do replace the starboard bolt for a PIP pin. I don't think it matters much. With a PIP pin you will not have to build the "keeper" for the allen wrench end of the bolt. That might be worth it. Cliff Shaw 1041 Euclid ave. Edmonds, WA 98020 425 776 5555 Main gear sockets bonded in. Filling the belley ): .

Hi Mike, I had the same problem with my pins, very snug fit until I set my incidence. When you pull a string from wing tip to wing tip and properly align the wings for the incidence and setting of the forward and aft drag pins the spar pins will slide in with little or no effort. You might need to wiggle the wings a bit, but this is common on $100K sailplanes too. Whatever you do don't ream the bushes or file the pins! Regards, John Lawton Dunlap, TN A-245

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Dan Bish" <danbish@norwalktucson.com> Hi all, I was wondering if there's a simple tool & technique to chamfering the edges around the access panels around the tailplane. Page 23-3 of the manual says to chamfer back 10-15mm at about 45 degrees which looks doable, just wondering what's the best tool to use to do this without going all the way through the skin. Thanks, Dan A144 Tucson, AZ

--> Europa-List message posted by: Paul Boulet <possibletodo@yahoo.com> Hi Kevin; My battery is under the baggage area. I'm not sure of the model number on the B&C but John Hurst can put you in touch with them if you want one. Don't despair about being so far behind me.... I lost my build partner early in the process and then adopted a baby boy... between all that I knew the plane would not get finished if I didn't employ Phoenix Composites... I've spent thousands with them.... Paul Kevin Klinefelter <kevann@gte.net> wrote: --> Europa-List message posted by: "Kevin Klinefelter" Hi Paul, Congratulations, almost. Thanks for posting your list of things that needed work. I have a couple questions. With regards to the Weight & Balance, where do you have the battery mounted? And which B&C alternator do you have? I am very excited to see how close to flying you are. We got our kits on the same day, but I am what seems like miles behind you. I arrived at Phoenix, Arizona with Kim Prout (West Coast distributor) for an inspection prior to flight. We found several errors which we spent the next three days correcting. Items were as follows: 1. A lot of trimming of the rear of the wings was required so that the ailerons would hit their full left and right stops. Then of course we had to adjust the linkage to keep the travel within specs. 2. We had to adjust the flaps for full deflection- they were just a couple degrees off but that was enough so that when the came down the outriggers did not fully deploy which left them as a hazard to retraction 3. center of gravity was too far forward- altho within limits it was at the upper range of limits. The plane is quite heavy at 893 pounds without paint and upholstery. I have the 914 engine, the B&C Alternator and a full panel of avionics. It killed me to add another 10 pounds just in front of the tailspring 4. The rudder pedals were sticking or hanging up somewhere still to be solved... required very heavy forces to move them 5. The leading edge of the wings had primer rolled onto them which Kim said was too rough... spent an hour or two sanding them smooth with wet sand 320 grit 6. The oil return line was not heat shielded and only an inch or so away from the exhaust 7. The ailerons were not balanced well enough and more lead had to be drilled from the counterbalances 8. The biggest trouble we had was the Grand Rapids EIS (Engine Info. System). We could not get it to read accurately... jumped from screen to screen. We tested for proper grounding in several areas and ways... also replaced the presssure transducer... also contacted Grand Rapids. They were very helpful but many hours later we still could not get confidence in any of the readings. Grand Rapids is shipping us a new one which we'll install later this week. In the meantime Kim and I had to get back to California so first flight will wait another few weeks or more.....sigh Thanks to everyone's support in helping me realize this dream Paul Boulet, N914PB Malibu, CA

The total length from under the head is 3-3/8" , page 27-14 in builders manual. It's mentioned after the work you describe and this has been one of my comlaints on the manual. The writer often assumes we builders should already understand some of these things, especially the "little things". Good luck, and hope this helps.
