I am planning to do most of the project in my basement. My concern is
ventilating the work area and protecting the rest of the house. Is anyone
building in their house and if so has ventilation been an issue while
working with the epxoy? If so, how have you dealt with it?

Hi! Guys,
By error my supplier has supplied me a "Kings Tire 4.10/3.5-5 tube for replacing
my crappy oversize Cheng Shin 11x4.00-5 and the Kings Tire is an absolute fit
for the job of the Europa Nose Wheel.
ONLY ONE PROBLEM ..... the Kings Tire has a straight valve but a tight 90 deg.
offset valve is required.! (Sods Law at work!)
Could anyone in the know about "Kings" ask them if they produce the same tube but
with a tight 90 deg and offset to one side of the inner diameter of the tube......
and if they do how we get them?

| I am about to purchase a started project and become a new Europa builder.
I am planning to do most of the project in my basement. My concern is
ventilating the work area and protecting the rest of the house. Is anyone

David,
Yes, and yes. My project is in a spare bedroom. I began by building
tail feathers and wings (2 yrs) in the foam persuasion which is much slower
than you will encounter. I split the room lengthwise with 1x2 lumber,
covered both sides with 6mil polythene (with primitive door) for the wings
etc. This allowed me to heat and humidity control in my half - as the house
is gas-fired forced-air fed so I isolated my half from it. Indoor and
outdoor temps plus humidity gauge ensured proper conditions for the epoxy
curing. I worried badly about hardener fumes, but over the years discovered
no effects from Aeropoxy materials [of course I don't drink it, and keep
fumes well clear of nostrils etc - but to each his own sensitivities, no
small matter]. I seldom use the mask now except on large jobs.
This room is 23x23 and accomodates the assembled Europa Classic with
4 inches to spare either wingtip, so planning is called for. The first
(stbd) wing goes out the double patio doors to disassemble, and at minus
15-20deg C temp, you want to choose the season for many tasks. However it
looks like it can be done ('cept for engine runs) and having the work steps
from breakfast can be a warm and pleasant though, so good luck!

Steve - it's on the Europa Club members-only area, and it's on the
CD-ROM issued to every new member. It was made available to the Club
on condition it wouldn't be distributed beyond the Club membership.
And it's only 12.4MB for the combined mono & tri-gear pages. Forget
about scanned copies - as well as being larger than preferred, they
won't be searchable.

John - my congratulations also. Now, you know the drill from here on

total build hours?
If Gordon's on the list, please feel free to respond when you get
time away from the aeroplane!

Hi all,
I may have to re make the short cables going from my "Singleton tail wheel mod"
to the tail wheel. I have to place an order with AC Spruce soon, can anyone
tell me what type of cable this is ?
Thanks, Paul

Hi all,
One of the tests I wish to make it to ensure that the engine will develop full
take off power for 5 minutes. Could someone advise me on how to secure the aircraft
safely for this task.
Thanks, Paul

John, you didn't say the measured cable loss for the xpondr coax. I'm curious because relatively lossy RG-58C, if it takes 12' of cable to an antenna back near the tail, should result in a 50% loss. See, e.g., a coax loss calculator at http://www.ocarc.ca/coax.htm
The original post ref'd Microair saying keep the cable to 6' or less, and let you
thus get away with RG-58A/U. Both King and Narco supply low-loss cable, to
be limited to 9-10 feet, and Narco (even at 250W) says keep coax loss to 2db
(37%). With the Microair, 50% coax loss can put you only 15 watts to the good
under the TSO and the biennial test, which can result in dropouts if the radiation
pattern isn't real good.

Fred F.

Rest the spinner up against a wall, on a felt pad to avoid scratches. That
will stop it going forward. If you park your car behind it, up against the
tailwheel, well it wont go backward either.

Paul,
I understand the rudder cable supplied by Europa to be 7X7 control cable of
3/32" diameter. Spruce Cat Pg 131.
Part no for the galvanised is 05-03800 and for the stainless is 05-03700
Little doubt this is correct.

P.S. Forgive previous indiscression......my brain is
frazzled............try working out a hydraulic problem in the sim with no
quantity, no pressure lights i.e. normal pressure, and no pumps
on.............no wonder I am ready for a big sleep..The instructor doesn't
need to throw anything in with a machine like that!

Paul,
I tied two sandbags to a rope and hung them over the rear fuselage - then
tied the tailwheel to my Jeep with a big rope.
With the cowl off it won't overheat (at least mine didn't) but I never ran
it for 5 minutes straight.
It is SO fun to start the engine.

Hi! Paul
I'm sure you don't want telling the suggestion of pushing the spinner
against a wall must be an inapropriate joke!
I use my tail wheel arm to pull the aircraft into my covered trailer with a
winch and any restraining tests that I have done have been by fixing a rope
securely to the same place and attaching to a substantial tree or the tow
ball on my car with the hand brakes firmly on.
All presuming that you did a good job on the tailwheel mounting
strengthening and fixing works.
Dash !..... now my detail is out about "my arrestor hook"!

We did all our engine runs with a rope tied securely to the tailwheel arm,
with the other end tied to an established tree, in our case this had a trunk
with a thickness of around 12 inches.

Ok so I am jealous Ferg. What really intrigues me though is I am wondering
just how big your master bedroom must be seeing as your 'spare bedroom' has
a bigger floor area than the ground floor of my little old UK home.
