The engine will run hotter when it is new and tight, after break in it will
cool down a little.
remember that if your coolant is 50% water it will boil at 115 deg
C (129deg at 1
bar)
Check also That the coolant collector bottle has a good sized vent to
overboard. You don't want glycol all over the windscreen.
Check for good sealing around the radiators, you must force all the cooling
air to go through them, not around the sides. The boys in Florida are
probably the best people to talk to. Jim Brown, Jim Nelson? Bob Berube if
he's not too busy

Hi All,
The engines run a bit on the hot side for the first 10 / 15 hours or so, the temps
will drop between 10 to 15 C after that.
The oil cooler can be dropped to expose half of it to cold air, which also allows
an easier path for the hot air from the water radiator to exit.
The lower cowl can be ''stood off'' from the fuselage at the bottom, use longer
bolts with spacers, you can get a 3/4'' gap at the cowl lower rear edge, this
will ''rip'' more air through.
Cheers,
Nev.

Can anyone furnish me with a copy of the cutting template referred to in
the instructions for fitting the NACA vents. I have now got a couple of
ACS cheaper eyeball vents (seem very nice) but intend to feed them from
the original scoop for which I have no template. Either email or fax
would do (+44 (0)1283 733912)

JEFF,
Although I don't know the shelf life of the Aeropoxy I can answer the second
half of your question. The Aeropoxy hardner runs from light amber to dark
red. It's all the same but different colors. I also checked on that as I've
run into both when ordering.

Subject: | Friction in the Finger Brake Master Cylinders |
--> Europa-List message posted by: Tony Renshaw <tonyrenshaw@optusnet.com.au>
Gidday,
I have read about the sticky nature of these levers, so I read around and
found out the following. The brake fluid DOT 5.1 is half as viscous as DOT
4, and the other petroleum based fluids. This means a system filled with
DOT 5.1 provides quicker lever response, better modulation and faster pad
retraction When servicing, the lower viscosity facilitates bleeding and pad
adjustment. It also doesn't rot paint if it leaks out!! I reckon this is a
good one alone. Also, the seals is the issue. The Jamar brake cylinder has
Buna N seals, and so too do my Grove brakes, therefore I suppose also this
may be the case for Clevelands and others. Buna N seems to be taking over
because it will take silicone based and petroleum based fluids, plus a
bunch of others.
I think I'll give it a go.
More on the Jamar master cylinder-
OK,
The manufacturer is Jamar performance products. Link below. The phone
contact is Frank. Nice and friendly. The master cylinder is model no.
US2002X. The seals are Buna N seals, compatible with Dot 3,5,8 , ATF
fluid?? and therefore most synthetic fluids.
To clean out the cylinder he recommends hot soapy water. I have found
acetone bath is good too with a toothbrush, except obviously on the seals.
The end holes are 1/8" NPT. The grub screws are to seal the external sides
of the 2 chambers which are linked by a small hole that passes sideways
right through component. The grub screws should be locktited in position
and do not need to be removed for servicing, unless of course you feel that
the hole between the chambers might have become compromised in service.
Thats it for now.

Don't use it if the hardner is dark red or brown. They don't give a shelf
life, but I think it's about 1yr. The hardner should be a light amber
color. I bought some from Aircraft Spruce and it was dark red when I
received it. I call them and they sent me a new bottle.

Subject: | Dot 5.1 Retraction |
--> Europa-List message posted by: Tony Renshaw <tonyrenshaw@optusnet.com.au>
Gidday,
If you are interested in brake fluids, before you spot my deliberate
mistake, I should retract my comment about 5.1 being non aggresive to
paint. These bloody numbers are confusing. Dot 5 is the synthetic, silicone
based variety that doesn't rot paint. Dot 5.1 is the petroleum variety, and
since the others rot paint I can only presume this one does too. I do know
it is expensive, and hard to get, but if it leaks out when you are away
from home, well you can top it up with the other Dot varieties, and I think
even Automatic Transmission Fluid without it rotting your seals, and then
you can flush it all out and replace the fluid, without having to replace
the seals. So, I now think the rotting variety, albeit the best one being
Dot 5.1 is the way to go, just don't let it get out !
Hope this helps somebody. It is helping me to get it out there anyway.
