Ah-ha! That sounds quite possible Cliff. It was a cool day with lots of
humidity and I had been hanging around on the ground for a while waiting
for clearance. The roughness came a couple of minutes after I backed
off the throttle at the top of the climb.

      Many thanks for the input.

Nothing specific, but the advice from Nev at the factory was don't use

      Hi Brian

Sorry not to get back to you sooner but work and problems getting e-mails
      abroad got in the way.

      >Your modified diagram appears to require yet another 5amp circuit breaker
      to
protect the positive feed to the relay. Surely it is sufficient to take the
relay positive feed from the same place as the positive feed for the crowbar
unit. The only difference is that the relay is energised when the
      alternator master switch is closed.

Modifying the circuit from the old to the new then becomes a simple matter
of moving the positive wires for the crowbar unit and the relay to the
busbar side of the relay contacts.

      Does that make sense?<

Your suggestion does make sense. The latest diagram was done for me by
Rowland as he has the knowhow to create pdf files and I don't. He just added
it to the existing wiring diagram which includes the alternator switch.
Quite how you arrange the finer points of the wiring is up to you. A
suggestion I would make (and this is how my aircraft is wired) is not to
have an alternator switch at all. After all the relay does that job anyway.
Although most of us have a panel of c/b's we also have a small fuse box
(usually mounted in the engine compartment). This is for the 30A alternator
fuse, main panel fuse, 1A starter engaged fuse and ammeter fuses if
appropriate. This fusebox then becomes the distribution point for all the
high power electrics. This means that the only power coming through the
firewall is for the panel itself. That way less junctions are required
between the alternator and the battery. To achieve this you still need a
seperate low power wire for the relay. It is a bit like having a battery
      solenoid but for the alternator.

I have put this response on the forum as it may interest others but if you
would like to talk about it in more detail give me a ring on 01380 860620. I
will be away from Saturday afternoon until Thursday morning but will be
around the rest of Thursday and Friday.

      Regards

      Hi Ferg,

      Good Morning to all,

I am going to be attending Sun-N-Fun and Benson Days, first time for both.

I will be in Wauchula Florida on Saturday April 10 & 11 for Benson Days
(gyrocopters) and then traveling to Lakeland area for Sun-N-Fun till
      Wednesday, April 14.

Question, are there any flight related activities/sights in the area this
      year that are must see's.

I am especially interested in the Europa. Any chance of getting a demo ride
in an Europa during this time? I especially like the Europa XS glider wings
      version.

I plan on visiting the Europa hanger at Lakeland and Flight crafters.

      Thanks for any information,

      Good morning Rick,

In the past, Europa has usually had the demo plane available at the nearby
Plant Airport. There is usually a charge for the flight but is likely to be
credited to a future purchase of a kit. They have had in the past a clipboard for

scheduling demo flights at the Europa tent.
I'll also be at Sun-N-Fun this year. I had a frequent flyer tix that was
about to expire so the wife OK'd my trip. But I got a flight on the Tuesday of

S-N-F but unfortunately could only get a return flight the following Wednesday.

So I will have to suffer a whole week in the Florida sun around all those darn

planes. Maybe I'll see you at the tent or at Flightcrafters.

Let me give you fair warning: Once you take a demo ride in a Europa, your
chances of becoming a EuropaJunkie are approximately 95.8%.
I believe the first thing my wife said after seeing the grin on my face and

Thanks for the reply, Paul. Here's what my testing has revealed after
about 20 hours curing time. In both tests, when trying to separate the
two layers of fiberglass, the original material failed, delaminating,
leaving the rudux, intact. Hmmmm. Perhaps further tests, including
total cure time (2 weeks) will provide more information. I've got the
time, so why not?. I'll post the findings, when I get them...

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Cory Emberson" <bootless@earthlink.net>

      Hello everyone!

With Matt Dralle's blessing (thank you, Matt!), I'm pleased to post this announcement
for a terrific aviation fly-in weekend. SMXgig (in Santa Maria, CA) has
become the year's largest face-to-face get-together of electronically networked
aviators. We hope you'll plan to attend because we expect this year's gig to
      be the best ever.

People come from all over the country (and sometimes overseas) to attend, and most of the sessions qualify for FAA Wings cards. The dates are 4/30-5/2/04 (Friday-Sunday) - it's a lot of fun, and a great chance for pilots from all over to mingle and share aviation stories, ideas, etc. The announcement below contains most of the crucial information, and you can get the rest from the website (www.smxgig.org). If you have any questions at all, just let me know, and thanks!

      >>> NOTICE TO AIRMEN! <<<
      Announcing the Sixteenth Annual SMXgig
to be held on April 30 - May 2, 2004
at the Radisson on the Santa Maria (CA) Airport (aka SMX)
      www.smxgig.org

SMXgig will be April 30 - May 2, 2004, at the Santa Maria Radisson. This year,
our featured speaker after Friday night's dinner will be Rod Machado!
"MACH 2 WITH MACHADO" is the byline Rod Machado has earned for his rapid fire delivery
at his lively safety seminars and keynote speeches. His programs are information-packed,
energetic, and humorous. He has spoken in all fifty of the
United States and in Europe sharing his fresh approach to aviation education.

If you can make it, please do. It's going to be pretty special. More information and the announcement/ registration info is available at www.smxgig.org You may also contact me by email at: cory@smxgig.org.

All technical sessions will be held in the Enterprise Ballroom at the SMX Radisson.
Each session will last about an hour. We schedule four tech sessions on Saturday
morning, and four on Sunday morning. Most of the speakers are set (I'm
still firming up a couple of slots - I'm working on a session about Experimentals):

MIKE BUSCH - The Art and Science of Troubleshooting
Your A frequently, that person is you. That's particularly true of problems that
occur only in-flight and/or are intermittent. This session offers methodology
for troubleshooting aimed at aircraft owners who aren't A&Ps.

ED WILLIAMS - GPS - How It Works, and How to Work It
Ed is a nuclear physicist working at Lawrence Livermore Labs. Ed does a
remarkable job of making physics phun!

BRENT BLUE, M.D. - Pilot Medicals: How to Avoid Problems with the FAA
Brent is an AME Advocate, who specializes in helping the tough cases renew their
medicals. He's a former member of EAA's medical advisory committee.

DOUG RITTER - Equipping Yourself To Survive - Personal Survival Gear for Pilots

Doug is a survival evangelist, personally driven to help pilots live through whatever comes next. www.equipped.org

PAUL MILLNER - The Future of Avgas
Paul works with ChevronTexaco, and is right in the middle of the industry developments
      regarding our fuel of choice.

MARY DUFFY & UWE LEMKE - Flying in Europe
Mary and Uwe are a Scot and a German who live in the San Francisco Bay Area, but
      return "home" often.

As always, each qualifying session will get you a WINGS Safety Session card.

Our Saturday evening event should be a delicious one! At 5:45 p.m., the BFUB (Big Fat Ugly Bus) will arrive at the Santa Maria Radisson to bring us to the Far Western Tavern for dinner in beautiful Guadalupe (www.farwesterntavern.com).

      DOLLARS AND CENTS
Just as in previous years, there will be one flat all-encompassing "gig" fee that
covers all events that involve significant out-of-pocket costs for the organizers.
The fee is $160 per person, and will cover:
      - Friday afternoon welcome party
      - Friday evening dinner banquet
      - Saturday and Sunday tech sessions
      - Saturday afternoon lunch
      - Saturday evening dinner at the Far Western Tavern in Guadalupe
      - Meeting rooms and coffee service at the Santa Maria Radisson
      - Transportation to (and from) the Far Western Tavern

Lodging at the SMX Radisson will cost $89.00/night for either a single or double
room, which is far below the regular hotel room rate. Be sure you check in as
a SMXgig attendee and get the special rate. We have our definitive preference
listed with the hotel for rampside rooms - early registration can only help,
but of course, the rampside rooms are subject to availability depending on how
many existing guests are in those rooms.

You do not need to register with the hotel - just give me your preferences, and
I will take care of the reservations.

Important: This year, our final rooming lists are due to the hotel on April 11,
2004 (the even of Sun 'n Fun), which will guarantee space and the group rate.
The hotel will accept additional room reservations after that, on a space- and
rate-available basis. They will try their best to accommodate us after that
date, but the hotel is already sold out for the weekend.

The website (www.smxgig.org) has detailed information about the schedule, meals, hotel accommodations, and online registration. If you'd like your own announcement/registration emailed to you, or have any other questions, just let me know. (cory@smxgig.org or bootless@earthlink.net ).

      Thanks, and see you there!

      best, Cory Emberson

      HI Guys,
I highly recommend the instillation of the carburetor heat
blocks. That should eliminate any possibility of carb ice :-))))

Interestingly the Araldite from the same manufacturer but in the US
distribution has only a shelf life from 1 year compared to the same stuff in
Europe having a shelf life of 3 years. Got my kit last year and have now 3
can's of unopened but expired Araldite.
I wonder where the difference is. Maybe in the product liability law?

      Jeff:

I had the same issue with the stuff. Since it is real expensive I hate to
throw the stuff out and spend about $130 to buy a new batch. I wound out
making a sample lap joint coupon and pulled it on an instron tensile test
machine. The fiberglass broke before the joint came apart. So if you want
to see if it still has its strength make a lap joint about 1" wide and
layer up some fiberglass in the thickness you are planning on bonding. Do a
tensile test. If the fiberglass breaks before the joint, you have good
      stuff.
