Having got this far it seems a great pity to give up. Couln't you get some
help to finish your project?
If you do stop, the Europa community will miss your creative input. Your
fuselage cradle design is brilliant.

Hi all,
I have been struggling with an issue which I have now been able to quantify. When
I try and transmit ( IIMorrow GX60) I get an awful squeal in the headset.
To trouble shoot I removed the intercom and wired my microphone and headset socket
directly to the radio and it still squealed when trying to transmit. My
headsets are LightSpeed 25k's
I then tried a different set of headsets and it worked just fine (Telex 3500),
tower reported a clear transmission. Just as a cross check I tried my Light Speed
headsets on my Vertex handheld and they did the same.... made a squeal when
trying to transmit. These headsets work perfectly in my Comanche which has
a Signtronics intercom.
It would seem that the problem is isolated to my Lightspeed headsets, any one have
any suggestions ?

Hi All,
I adjusted my propeller pitch today so I could get 5700 RPM for take off. The
Airmaster propeller now seems to be working as it should, 5100 RPM in the cruise
setting, 5300 in the Climb and 5700 in the take off setting.
The problem is that the maximum boost I am seeing is 34" at 5700 RPM, I would have
expected to see 38~40 inches. Does anyone have and ideas why I am not seeing
full boost under a static run up. I was a cool day, around 50 f so I do not
think it would be an air box over temperature issue.

Tom - nobody else can give you permission to spend your time in this
way, it's got to be your own decision.
One of the things that tipped me over when I had some doubts was the
following scenario posed by someone who had no knowledge of
aeroplanes or engineering at all, but knew a lot about people.
If on your deathbed you had convenient time to review your life
decisions, how do you think you would feel about your aeroplane
build/not build choice? Would you be saying
(a) "I know it seemed the sensible idea NOT to build, but I really
wish I'd tried to build an aeroplane after all"
or
(b) "I know I didn't finish it (because I died/got epoxy
allergy/spent too much time with my family) but I'm glad I gave it a
try and risked the experience"
Looking forward now, which of those two would you rather be able to
say? And of course there's the 3rd one we all hope we can quote
instead - "I built it and I can fly around in it"!
If all us builder nuts were making decisions based on cold hard
facts, I think there'd be very few of us tackling the job.
regards
Rowland

The following probably only makes sense for converted monos that still
have a hole in the bottom!
I have used single loops of bungee that stretch around the T-bar to
the centre tube (as G-NEAT is a converted mono, this is where the
over-centre supports pivoted from).
The bungee is threaded over the centre tube and the ends clamped
together with little clamps (kindly supplied to me by Kevin
Pilcher). The loop of bungee can then be stretched down and over the
end of the T-bar. If the tension isn't quite right you can move the
clamp and try again. The stripes on the bungee should be something
like 1" apart at the right tension. Keep adding loops of bungee until
you have enough and the result is "hard".
The great advantage of this method is that you can re-tension
individual loops without doing yourself an injury and even take more
than half off without the thing collapsing.
Kevin uses a variation of this method where he makes up larger loops
that stretch from the T-bar, over the centre tube and back down to the
T-bar. I tried that, but being weak, I found I just wasn't capable of
pulling the bungee down to the T-bar. However, single loops between
the centre tube and the T-bar are not too difficult to tension
adequately. The disadvantages of my method (compared to Kevin's) are
that you need twice as many clamps and the bungee has to be formed
into a loop in place over the centre tube (actually, no big deal).
The end result is "well hard" and much easier to maintain than the
factory method.
I hope this makes sense and is helpful.
Regards,
mark

Try Aircraft Spruce, look under bungee cords. They are listed in different
lengths. You will need to know the length from the top bar where you wrap the
cord, to the bottom bar.
In my Pitts the bungee cord loop was about half the distance between the two
mounting lugs. It took a special tool to stretch the bungee cord far enough
apart that it could be placed on its mounting lugs.

Gerry,
The article by Kevin Pilcher is in the latest Europa flyer. I copied
the article from the forum archive and will send you a copy directly.
NOTE!! Anyone trying this system should be aware that the measurements
for the bungee are incorrect. The correct length is around 25 inches.
I did contact Kevin about this and he confirmed the error for which he
sends his apologies. I suggest you cut one about 26 inches initially and
try it for size. You can shorten it fairly easily by slackening the rope
clamp and pulling a little more bungee through until you get it tight
enough.
I found that his system of pulling the loops into place with a hook
worked OK for the first couple of loops but I copied an idea given to me
by Rick Morris to stretch the remainder into place. Fasten a bracket to
the floor under the fuselage and use ratchet tie down straps to get
enough tension. Works a treat once you have got it set up.
Regards.

Paul, I had the same problem with my Lightspeed 25. I sent it to Lightspeed

feed back depending on the setup in ones plane. I don't understand it but it
now works. Call them, they were very helpful and had a fast turn around.

Paul, my tubo experienced the same after a period of time and after I did
some work on the air box. It drove me nuts trying to figure it out. Turns
out I some how got the sensor that is mounted on the port carb that monitors
the position of the throttle out of calibration. So the computer didn'
"think" that the carb was at full open and wouldn't provide the boost. That
is why I believe your not seeing 38- 40. To fix you must get the Toggle and
software from Europa or Rotax and recalibrate the sensor. And no you don't
manually adjust the sensor. You plug the toggle into a laptop and the turbo
computer and use the software to readjust the sensor. Once I did this 5
minute operation my boost was back! Very neat fix. At the same time you can
see exactly where all your % of throttle points are and mark them. Hope this
works for you. Don't forget to watch your RPM after fix because you are
surely at to fine a pitch.
