One way to solve that last point is to accurately restrain the friction
pads, scrap the nylon washers and use nylon sheet and devise a way to stop
it turning randomly. Square pieces sliding (sideways) on the side of the
      throttle box works.

Those of you who visited the Homebuilders Centre at the 2003 PFA
Rally may have noticed that there was little composite stuff visible,
apart from one of my tailplane halves hung on the wall (there's some
danger of the same piece, in the same state, being available again
      this year!).

Cliff Piper of the PFA EC has asked for the Europa Club's help in
putting on demonstrations of techniques, similar to those done by the
tin-bashers and the chippies. He has not not been able to find a
critical mass of composite "experts" elsewhere.

[I think anyone who's built the Europa Chock qualifies as an expert
      in this context!]

Cliff says the wood and metal disciplines each get about half a dozen
people to form a rota of 3-off 2-hour shifts on each of the 3 days so
that the pitch is continuously manned (or indeed womanned) from about
10:00 to 16:00 by at least one person who can give simple
demonstrations and answer questions. There should be no shortage of
enquirers as we will ensure that both the Europa Club and the Europa
factory stands will publicise the activities in the Homebuilders
      Centre.

Cliff has got support from the Europa factory in the form of a loaned
resin pump and other materials, so people don't need to bring any of
their own stuff (unless they want to). Volunteers who are prepared to
offer a couple of sessions (say at least 4 hours total involvement)
can get a Rally Worker wristband, ie free entry to the Rally. Cliff
thinks they would also get a free camping permit if they are stopping
      overnight.

On that basis, the number of volunteers to provide full service is
4.5, but less would be needed if some people are prepared to do more
than 2 shifts - or if we get lots of volunteers we may be able to
have 2 people on duty at times. Of course, Cliff Piper may have a
limit on the number of free-entry worker passes he can issue!

Europa Club committee member Ian Rickard <g-iani@ntlworld.com> has
offered to take on the task of organising the expected volunteers
into an efficient working team and scheduling their attendances at
      the Homebuilders Centre.

Please contact Ian off-list to join the team. He needs names as soon
as possible so your free-entry wristbands can be allocated. I'm sure
this will be another* opportunity for Europa people to show how
      things _should_ be done.

(* Frank Mycroft <frankm@clara.net> of this parish organised the
hotel bus service at very short notice from a standing start last
year, and received plaudits for a good job in difficult
circumstances. He is in charge again this year and I am also posting
a notice from him for your attention.)

      regards

      Rowland

      Graham,
I was only looking at that set-up the other day and wondering how the hell
it could work efficiently when all the friction pieces are on a bolt with
      nothing tied.

I hadn't got around to nutting out what I would consider a better idea so I
am grateful for your having now provided a solution.
Thanks ole mate..... good as done !

      Hi All,
I apologise to Brian and others of the Northern/Eastern
persuasion for going for Lands End. I'm well aware how far it is for some,
however I was led by a Hat Dropper who got his bid in first, and, as William
said, we did Swansea not long ago. So Lands End it is.
Having said that, I would not be at all suprised if it went
foggy in West Cornwall on Tue and Swansea sounds like a good alternative
destination. If I'm on my way to Lands End and have to divert, I'll probably
go to Roserrow, ( which is 'interesting')
                  All the best, Paddy Clarke

Lands End it is then! My forecast do not indicate fog, which is just as well
because I would not know where to find Roserrow.
Would anyone have a spare copy of Pilot mag'. I don't take it so I will have
to pay a landing fee. Bless you William!

See you tomorrow. Hope the bacon butties are good.

I have tried several times to download the 914 Maint Manual from the Rotax site.
The file is d03111.pdf and is about 12 MB. The download starts fine but at
about 3MB a download complete message is displayed and the computer disconnects.
Has anyone else had this problem and found a solution?

The problem I had was getting the lever to turn on the nylon at all (this
was with nylon washers cut from sheet).
Instead, the steel washers preferred to turn under the head of the nuts.
Solved by welding the nuts to the washers and Loctiting the nuts.

So far so good; just hoping the whole thing doesn't have to be adjusted too
frequently. Emergency wooden wedge (2.5g weight) carried in cockpit to
      prevent throttle creep, if needed!

Jim, I had the same problem. My solution was a friend with quickly internet
conection (he has cable, I have only phone conection). I thing, it should go
also with special software for downloadings GetRight (I thing only, I didn`t
      try it).

      Good luck by downloading.

Jim, The other solution is to get a CD with the up to date maintenance &

type of Rotax engine and did not cost much. Regards, David Joyce, G-XSDJ

      found a solution?

      Jim,

As Stanislav suggested try downloading and installing 'Get Right' at
      www.getright.com

This program will keep track of where the download is up to and in the
event of dropping out, will pick up where it left off.
Having said this, if you have a telephone connection, a 12 MB download
      is quite a task.

It is not very practical for me to do being so far away, but I'm sure
there should be someone closer to you who could download the file via
cable or satellite and burn it onto a CD for you. If you have no luck,
      let me know off list.

| Subject: | pfa rally hotel taxi service |

--> Europa-List message posted by: Rowland Carson <rowil@clara.net>

I'm posting the following Europa Club notice on behalf of Frank Mycroft:

Last year, at very short notice, the Europa Club provided drivers for a
very successful Bus Service at the PFA Rally. However, although the weather
was perfect and the Rally was a great success as an event, financially it
was not a success, and all those involved have been asked to see where they
can cut costs. Hiring two buses was quite expensive, so I put out feelers
to those who drove last year about whether they would be prepared to use
their own cars, being re-imbursed only for fuel. The response was very
positive so I have decided to go ahead on that basis.

I am therefore looking for more volunteer drivers prepared to use their own
cars to form a taxi rank from 4.30 to 6.30 on Friday and/or Saturday
evenings, and (and this is essential for the plan to work) to pick up the
same people and bring them back to the Rally the following morning.

This will be a FREE taxi service so for insurance purposes you will be
driving for pleasure, and it really is a pleasure to give a lift to grateful
foreign flyers, or others who have come a long way by air to the Rally.
Many of you will be flying in to the Rally, and I would not want to be the
cause of reduced numbers of Europas on display, but perhaps you can persuade
your better half to bring your car along so that you can have the best of
      both worlds.

If you would like to help in this way please drop me an e-mail at
<frankm@clara.net> telling me whether you will be able to do Friday evening +
Saturday morning or Saturday evening + Sunday morning, or even both.

      regards

      Rowland

I went a different route, I dispensed with the built up throttle box. I
built up the center console slightly and installed a verneir type throttle.
Hence no throttle creep. The single cable goes up to the firewall and I
manufactured a single to dual cable yoke the resides on the face of the
firewall. The double cables are now extremely short and all of the working
mechanism is now on the front face of the firewall. There is nothing
pertaining to the throttle that needs to be worked on under the console or
in the wheel. It is really clean and open down there. I did this after
seeing an installation that Phoenix Composites did on another Europa. I
haven't put this in service yet to operationally check it out. Busy working
on a trailer to bring the plane somewhere where I start it up and do engine
      checks.

Alex Bowman has flown ~10 hours with no problems with his Honda firewall forward
      installation.

      He's getting ~ 2,000 feet/min climb!

      He'll be at Arlington.
