FL23 is the spacer for the flap hinges in the bottom of the fuselage. You
should have two of them. (see the diagram of the flag system in sec. 28).

FL13 are the spacers used in the aileron bolt
assembly. But my kit does not have any FL13. Instead,
I have a spacer labelled FL23 (only one, not two). Any
ideas what is going on? I am assuming FL23 is the same
as FL13. But why only one? Am I missing a part, or is
only one spacer needed?

Congratulations Tim and family. At the same time I can announce the first
flight of Dirk Oyen's XS monowheel #382 with Airmaster CS and Rotax 912ULS,
empty weight: 843 lbs, nearly six years of building and renovating a house
meanwhile. The maidenflight took place on june 11th in Hasselt EBZH Belgium
where OO-145 performed as Tim already described.
Well done men! (Paul included)
Karel Vranken # 447 F-PKRL joining you lucky guys very soon I hope.

Can someone point me to build plans for the Fuselage cradle?
My preference is for wood construction as I have no business being anywhere
around welding equipment. That being said I do have a relative who is a good
welder if necessary.
I doubt that there would be a no longer needed trigear cradle for sale in
close proximity to Texas?

I and many other builders have used the fuselage cradle designed by Chuck
Popenoe. You will find build instructions at
http://members.bellatlantic.net/~cpops/cradle.html.
It is a clever design and I have been very pleased with it.

Ahh YES! The famous Pops Cradle! Very nice design however my concern is that
the side boards may get in the way of the TRI landing gear arrangement. Any
trigear uses have experience with this design? Any problems?

You can have mine, but it's now just disassembled, dimensional lumber.
For the trigear, you can keep it simple. A framed base, and four braced
vertical 1 x 4s which affix to the fuse with screws and stuff. Since you
have to adjust the height and level to install the main gear, slot the holes
in the verticals. Only for the monowheel can I see where something much
fancier than this is desirable, but the Pops design will make the main gear
job rather a challenge.

Paul,
It can sometimes be transmitted through tight clamping of units
in the system, but this does not sound like that symptom. If your headset
earcups 'leak' then the acoustic feedback would be the cause. Tight earcups
tend to reduce that.
Is your system operated as 'VOX' - voice-operated transmission?
That is, do you have the sound of your voice open the transmitter, or do you
press a transmitt button? If the former, the sound from nearby will trigger
the transmitter open as well as the intercom. VOX is operated by two datum
voltages - a large one which triggers the transmission and a smaller one
below which the transmitter shuts off. Both of these voltages is set by a
pair of potentiometers usually somewhere moderately available to the
avionics bod who installs/repairs same. The same may apply to the intercom
unit.
We'll keep an eye open for your solution when it comes.
Cheers, Ferg

| Hi All,
|
|
| I have an odd problem with my GX60 when trying to transmit. I found it
would start oscillating, it would start with an echo and then break into
full audio feedback, similar to as what a PA system does when the microphone
is too close to the speaker. I fooled with the problem for the longest time
and I finally narrowed it down to my LightSpeed headsets. I called
LightSpeed and sure enough they knew about the problem. They invited me to
send the headsets back and they would fit a new shielded battery box. They
came back and they "sorta" worked, but unfortunately they would still do it.
|
| A this point I resigned myself to using my Telex 3500's. These always
seemed to work, but today they started to exhibit the same problem... now I
am in a bit of a quandary on how to trouble shoot this problem. I do not
have an audio panel at this time, I am using the internal intercom in the
GX60.
|
| Does anyone have any ideas where to head with this.

No, Fl13 is the right part number for the aileron close out. I'd look around or
call Europa for new parts.

Many thanks for each contact regarding making the seats. I am
particularly leery of attempting such a skill, but will give it one try
before heading for a trained upholsterer. The photos, references and advice
were most appreciated.

High ish speeds) and all looked good. A few minor problems that would have
to go on the MEL (Minimum Equipment List..airline jargon) but quite within
the DDPG (airline jargon) otherwise after 5 hours on flying other Europas I
was confident.
> With the family standing outside the Wigram hangar I completed the run-up
and now 'let the truth be told'.
> The Rotax 912S with Airmaster Prop (empty weight 841 lbs) was very eager
to show me what it can do, and it didn't let me down. A very rapid
acceleration occurred, the forward pressure on the stick to raise the tail
was soon calling and what an impressive performance. Climbed away at 65kts
and the undercarriage came up with ease. Climb selected on the Airmaster
Prop I had to bring the MP back quickly to stop busting altitudes! and
gaining too much speed. Took it around the circuit, with a glide approach
always available, to try out the controls and they were very responsive. A
little port aileron down needed to stop roll (may be my weight) otherwise
rudder balance good and elevator very effective.
> Did an approach and overshoot to 200ft to try out the gear extension/
retraction again (and wave to the family) and then climbed to 3000ft out of
the circuit to try one clean stall recovering at the buffet and that was
sweet. Tried it with gear/flap down only to the initial buffet and that was
sweet. Very mild, no wing drop and easy recovery.
> Oil temperatures and pressures were all good, within the Rotax parameters.
This was a relief as I have the Classic cowlings and for the Rotax 912S I
changed the position of the Oil Cooler to underneath the spinner within the
same lines as the lower cowling. Airmaster Propeller worked very well as
expected.

back to 60kts and it quietly settled on the grass.

building. Also to Andy and Neville and John for their wisdom and advice;
Europa and Ivan for such a 'classy' aircraft, and my wife, Adrienne, whom I
married at the beginning of the build, produced 3 children during the build,
and we are still together at the end of the build!!!

Thanks for the offer, but I found the problem. My FL13
spacers were inclulded with the wing kit, not with the
tail kit. So, all is well. However, I still have the
FL23 spacer, and I am not sure where that goes.

Hi Fred,
To answer your question my set up has a push to talk for transmitting. If
your theory is correct I should be able to improve the situation by reducing
the microphone gain. The GX60's internal intercom has the following
parameters that can be set:
- RF Level
- Headphone level
- Side tone level
- Intercom level
- Intercom squelch
- Noise level
I was hoping to set one that said "Microphone gain", but alas no. I will dig
out the manual tonight and see if any of the above settings might help.
Cheers, Paul
