Peter. Yes, perhaps you are right but.... the initial restriction will still be there although not exasperated by the addition of the gauze so far down the hole. The hole needs opening towards the threaded hole by a "burr" tool, anyway then the gauze needs only to go half way into the connector. However more to the point half the gauze will never be used because the flow will always be at the exit end. This means the assembly can be shortened making it possible to enter it into the tank without damage. The fact was in my case the gauze stopped the very small amount of contamination and it hung about dangling inside in close proximity to the exit hole. The overall area of the gauze isn't quite relevant when it blocks up only at the exit end. The large surface area is OK if you are likely to put leaves, flakes of paint or scale into the tank but it ought to allow small stuff through unhindered. The first was to seal the flap drive slot in the fuselage, using a piece of cowl seal. The second was to fit an engine compartment baffle, between the foot wells and to close off most of the upper cowl vents. This is all documented in the Europa-USA website, at; http://www.europa-usa.com/n135TD.htm We were getting 70+ ppm CO, which is enough to cause concern, especially at higher altitudes where there is less oxygen to begin with. regards, Terry Seaver A135/N135TD Jon Smith wrote: >--> Europa-List message posted by: "Jon Smith" > >Hi everyone, I'm a new boy to Europa's, having just bought a completed one (G-TERN) about 4 months ago - and have enjoyed every minute of it so far! > >I've noticed that I'm getting exhaust fumes into the cockpit (faint smell from time to time). Klein" --> Europa-List message posted by: "Fred R. Klein" Hi All, Here's another two cents worth of opinion...from a builder who has up to now shied away from giving any consideration whatsoever to Rotax-alternatives. The mere thought of attempting innovation on the powerplant side of things is just way too daunting for my comfort zone...however, I've just returned home from the EAA fly-in @ Arlington, WA where I had a chance to see Alex Bowman's primo Honda CAM 125 installation in his XS mono! The fellow who did his engineering for it, Neal Villon (sp?), was also there and I was able to talk with him and Alex at length. Of course weight was an issue and they have stipped away 17 lbs. from the stock CAM 125; I cannot provide precise weight figures, but the 125 hp appears to more than compensate for any increase in gross. Nor can I provide any precise info on performance; however, the radiator installation is quite slick and along with the air inlet and outlets, the design appears to be extremely low drag. They have production molds for the cowl, baffling, and a wonderful monowheel fairing...it is really quite something. I have never been a fan of the XS cowl design, and Bowman's is really sweet. Bob Masters of Firewall Forward, Inc. which makes up the basic engine was also there; FF has invested considerable $ to ensure that the engine controller is suitable for aircraft. The Honda V-tech engine and reduction drive seem bulletproof, very robust, and the first 30 hours in the Europa seems very promising. In no way do I mean to equate 30 hrs. on one installation w/ the 1000's of hrs. on 1000's of Rotaxes. Alex mentioned that his search for an alternative began when his enquiries (several years ago) to Europa Inc. revealed that the company was less than satisfied w/ the Rotax and was seeking an alternative. I can't help but feel that a rejuvenated Europa Inc. would be wise to consider supporting the CAM 125. I think they also fit the 912 - but not the 912S which is what I have. Anyway I have 50 of these plugs for $2.00 each if someone wants the whole bunch. US Shipping would be $5 - overseas would be a bit more. If anyone is interested e-mail me back. Thanks!
