Has anyone in UK with 912 series Engine and XS Cowlings dispensed with the
Top Cowling NACA Vent to Plenum Chamber and used air supplied from other
areas via scat hose or whatever?
It has and is being done in USA with no problems using a NACA in Lower
Cowling and a manifold arrangement in Plenum area by some Builders and
Flyers.

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Andy Draper" <andy@europa-aircraft.com>
Dear Steve,
We originally had the static probes made from aluminium, but found that it was
difficult to avoid a burr around the small hole where the drill breaks out. You
cannot have a chamfered edge as this will adversly affect the static reading
so conventional deburring would have to be done extremely carefully. This relates
into higher cost. Doing a one-off wouldn't be a problem, of course.
We found that drilling the plastic probes left clean holes with good sharp edges.
We are still using the same pitot static head on our demonstrator which has
several hundred hours on it and has had its fair share of manhandling. We are
aware that the pitot static is quite a vulnerable part, so we are careful with
the port wing. Perhaps the workshop environment is more likely to result
in damage than in the hangar, workshop or exhibition hall.
Regards
Andy

The easiest thing to do is to take your old one and measure it up to make a
drawing or sketch, and give to a machinest. It looks like a prime candidate
to be turned from a piece of 1/4" aluminum bar stock. Mine busted also and
that's what I'm planning on doing.

Paul,
A number of Europa pilots have found that venting the static line to cockpit
behind the panel provides a more accurate airspeed reading than using the
wing mounted probe or the original fuselage vents. I did this a long ago
and found it very successful. I now use the
static probe, without its black bung, as another pitot source for
"undercarriage not down" warning. (The PFA will not allow the pitot source
feeding the ASI to be used for anything else) Taking the static tube off
the instruments will get you back into the air very quickly.
Best wishes,
William

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Peter Zutrauen" <peterz@zutrasoft.com>
The new sport pilot rule has finally been issued by the FAA.
http://www.faa.gov/avr/arm/rulemaking/SportPilotRule7_19.doc
It has lightly higher gross weight than the advanced ultralight rule
here in Canada.
600kg max gross
1 or two occupants
single engine
max stall speed (no flaps) of 45 knots CAS
max level airspeed 120 knots
fixed gear
fixed pitch prop
I was wondering if any out there already flying has managed to get a
clean stall speed at 600kg gross under the required 45 knots CAS?
Inquiring minds would like to know :-)

There will be a Builders Forum at OSH. It is scheduled for Tuesday, 7/27 from
4:00 pm to 5:15 pm in pavillion 02. They assigned the date and time - I asked
for later in the week but this is what I got!
There is no set agenda, just questions, answers, discussions etc. regarding building
and flying Europas. An opportunity to meet other builders and put faces
to names.
Hope to see you there.

Subject: | Anyone in the UK got a set of blades for an NSI vp prop? |
--> Europa-List message posted by: "Pete Lawless" <pete@lawless.info>
Hi All
Due to a mix of raised concrete path and spinning blades I am temporally
a bit light around the propeller! Does anyone have a set of 62 inch
blades for an NSI VP prop they could lend/hire/sell? All expenses paid
obviously. NSI are awaiting a delivery of the blades and I do not think
they will be there before the NSI crew decamp to OSH for 2 weeks. We
could well be out of action for a month otherwise.
I can guarantee that if you need your blades back in a hurry then they
will be there next day.
Thanks
Pete Lawless

Subject: | Fuel Filter Funnel |
--> Europa-List message posted by: "Dave Anderson" <dja767@charter.net>
Hi,
Does anyone out there know of a good source of fuel filters for servicing the airplane?
I imagine a filter that would be built into a funnel, which would have
a small enough diameter to attach a hose and insert into the tank. I have a
filter like this from Summit racing, but it is huge and does not work very well.
Thanks,
Dave

HI,
I am still waffling on flying the Mini U2 back to OSH again with the new paint.
Does anyone know of there has to be reserved space in the Europa parking and
is there camping possible there? I am planning to throw down a tent if it comes
to this. At this point, I think I will make the flight if the seas part (good
weather all the way across).

Hi All;
I searched archives for text on static port problems and didn't find much helpful
stuff.Mine too broke off and I'm getting erroneous readings of airspeed and
altitude.I tried ordering another couple of them from the Lakeland, Florida office
but they told me they had no idea when they might get them in.
Does anyone have a good alternative or other ideas to get me back in the air? This
is very frustrating
