Hi! Alan.
So Good to meet you and Katie over the weekend.
Excellent air show ( except they do wear a bit thin after one a year and
four days at Berlin !)
Also the materpiece of an idea to tempt the Rutan Brothers was out of this
world.
Wouldn't have missed it for the world.
Damn shame about holding us so long for departure not at all considerate of
distance flyers.
Let me know about the pump ASAP since I have to change my ways on the
filling technique anyway.
BTW I meant to ask Katie if she has a sister that flys?!

Hi! Neville.
Thanks for putting a bit of realism out on this vexing issue.
I have never witnessed a compnay so blatantly wasted and a failure so
un-professionally handled prior to administration .

Gidday,
OK, here goes. I have a Classic a/c with the Classic original cowls. I want
to put a 912S under the bonnet, and I can buy a stainless steel exhaust to
suit a 912. So, I know the 912S is basically the same engine, but I don't
really know if the exhaust ports and therefore the cylinders are exactly
the same in layout so that I can conclude whether this exhaust will suit my
needs. So, its an easy question for those that know, but I don't. Can
anyone please drag me out of the trees please?

P.S. Is there anything I need to know for a stainless steel installation?

The 912S and 912 are identical in this respect. I fitted a stainless exhaust
to a 912 and transferred it to a 912S.

Small business life must be great in the UK! With 40 yrs now in
accounting and tax, it's been my observation that companies -- w/o
being in a tiny market where customers spend the purest example of
"discretionary dollars" -- can still go bust seemingly when solar
flares kick up.
Not debating anything seriously here, but yer comment was so strongly
worded. :-)

I have ordered a new carb flange to replace the one that split. I just used the
part number off the flange, but have since seen the service bulletin showing
there is a new design part. The problem I see with the flange that broke is that
it is a solid rubber part with no internal reinforcement. On Lycoming intake
tubes and every cooling hose I have ever seen, there is a fiber reinforcement
to prevent what ended up happening to me. The crack started and then easily
propagated around 180 degrees, letting a huge amount of air to the intake manifold.
These flanges should be made of similar rubber. I am hoping that when they
send me the new one, it will be the new part number. I would assume they would
not be selling any more of the old design, since the service bulleting calls
for that to be replaced. The service bulletin also says to replace both flanges.
This is really a Mickey mouse design, as far as I am concerned.
In addition to the flange material, the airbox should really be supported, since
the entire airbox assembly in cantilevered on those flanges, support out at
the airbox would reduce the load on the flange. I have seen the installation on
the Stemme motorglider and they have the airbox resting on rubber blocks. I
am going to figure out a way to make the same sort of arrangement on my airplane
as well.
As far as tightening the flanges, that is also a weak point in the design, since
there have been cases of the carbs separating from the engine by being too loose.
Not too tight, not too loose - just right. It shouldn't be that sensitive.
That's enough of that

Dave
According to my manual for kit 360, the air intake box is supported with a
bracket. that may explain why I have had no problems so far.

Hi Vaughn-
I'm not sure whether you received my previous email. I have a half-built
kit just across the Potomac, which you might want to have a look at. The
only parts that I don't have is the engine mount and engine, and I have a
number of optional parts and tools. You may take a quick look at my website
http://members.bellatlantic.net/~cpops/. I've done a good bit more since
taking those photos. This would be like a quick-build kit!
Hope to hear from you.

Thanks Ian. I should have replied sooner. I did send my info to the
administrator. I'm pretty put of on doing a Europa at this time as I've
wasted most of the summer anticipating the arrival of my kit and hearing
seveal reasons why it wasn't shipped. If someone buys out the company and it
gets going again, I may reconsider. I live in Virginia,USA and have seen
some for sale, but I had wanted to build my own. Stupid, isn't it!...Vaughn

Don't lag stainless (with any chlorinated materials (which includes glass)
at temperatures above 500C).

Doesn't seem very normal to me. Look for any extra folds of pre preg glass
and resin around the lower front of the tub that shouldn't be there
(someone in production having a bad day?) and grind them away. You should
be able to achieve a good fit. Spend some time looking carefully. It won't
be wasted.
