Hi Everyone
I have managed to get hold of Four fuel pumps so far. They are made in
China but supplied by some company in Japan. I am trying to get in touch
with the manufacturers to see if they will supply more, but thats all
down to finding someone who can speak both languages ( not easy). The
four I have are available at 35 each plus P&P (probably about 4). This
is a none profit thing for me. I am simply passing them on at what they
have cost me. First four to respond get them everyone else will have to
wait till I find some more.
Cheers
Alan

Hi Kevin,
I forgot to add that we had to bump out the lower cowl to clear the front
starboard exhaust pipe. I got a drawing from Martin at AirMaster that
shows the cowl needs to be 1" behind the prop flange. When put in place,
the cowl hit the exhaust.

We talked to the LP Aerospace guys at OSH and looked at the plex samples
they had there. They suggested a very light gray tint which is what we
got. It looks fine in the driveway even at night ( not yet flying!).
From flying sailplanes, I think you need a little tint if you fly in day
VFR conditions!

Someone who is a victim of the Europa =8Csituation=B9 and rechecking his
inventory has asked this question. I cannot find the part in my Manual.
I would like to know if you can tell me what "Euro 54 and 55" are . One
parts list has it listed (newer list) whereas the older list ( the one I
found in the boxes of bits) does not.

Hi! Dave.
I'm familiar with Eddsfield, they make you very welcome. You are correct
about the strip. However watch out for the mast and wind shear from the
trees all at the eastern end. If landing from the east get it down quickly
without hitting the trees !!!! Regards to Kevin Taylor at the club house.
I can't make it, sorry.

I agree with what they say about amber, in the way it enhances
contrast for best spotting other traffic. Hence my sunglasses have
always been amber. And with amber Europa glass, I need not wear
glasses at all, and they can get annoying clamped by a headset.
'Course, an opinion from someone who has amber plexi to install, and
under present circumstances....

Hi all,
I have virtually completed the wiring in accordance with the diagram on
Page 25-11 issue 4 which I believe is the latest version. I am using a
battery isolator and, after discussion with Andy, I have swapped the 30amp
slow blow fuses on the battery feed and regulator feed to 25 amp CB's.
I crossed my fingers and powered it up and fortunately everything seems to
work. One thing that I have noticed though is that if the batt master CB is
pulled, power is removed from the aircraft but the isolator remains
energised (which I think is correct according to the diagram). Does it
matter that there is no fuse/cb protecting the isolator?
Cheers

I think that has more to do with provision of predictable and consistent

Gerry - from my parts list (on the famous CD-ROM .....) I have
exported the following relevant records:
EURO54 12" length TU43RM I guess this is the steel one 30-1-2, 30-5-2
EURO55 12" length TU25RM I guess this is the alloy one 16-1-2
They are part of the fuselage kit and the last numbers in each line
are the relevant pages in my monowheel manual. My guesses about which
is which were because they were not well labelled - I think there was
one piece of drafting tape around them with both numbers on it!

A common misconception is that fuses or circuit breakers protect devices.
Not so. The protection is for the wire, or more precisely, the insulation
on the wire. A given wire-insulation combination can carry a certain
maximum current for a specified maximum temperature increase, and circuit
protection devices are selected on this basis.
If in your example the wire is both short in length and physically protected
from contacting anything that could make a short circuit in the event the
insulation is compromised, protection in the form of a fuse or CB is not
required.

Simon,
A further point to note about Issue 4 of the circuit diagram is that the 30
amp slow blow fuses for both the battery and the alternator supply cable
protection are positioned on the firewall side as close as conveniently
possible to their power sources. This gives maximum protection to the
cables leading through to the cockpit and bus bars against the possibility
of a short circuit to ground causing them to smoke. If instead of these
fuses you have installed circuit breakers that are mounted on your panel,
then you must take particular care to ensure that you have good physical
protection for the cables leading up to them. This applies not just to your
initial installation, but to any subsequent maintenance or modification you
may do that might affect the integrity of these cables during the life of
the aircraft.
The wiring to engage the isolator is not given a fuse or circuit breaker to
protect it because it is on the ground side of the device. In contrast,
there is protection for the starter relay solenoid circuit because that is
supplying a positive to cause it to engage.

Mike

Page 25-11 issue 4 which I believe is the latest version. I am using a
battery isolator and, after discussion with Andy, I have swapped the 30amp
slow blow fuses on the battery feed and regulator feed to 25 amp CB's.
I crossed my fingers and powered it up and fortunately everything seems to
work. One thing that I have noticed though is that if the batt master CB is
pulled, power is removed from the aircraft but the isolator remains
energised (which I think is correct according to the diagram). Does it
matter that there is no fuse/cb protecting the isolator?
Cheers
Simon

Gidday,
I am going to purchase one of Alan Burrows fuel transfer devices and was
wondering if PayPal is the easy way to go. I haven't looked into it yet,
other than to note one fellow on e-Bay who would not accept PayPal
payments, reason unknown. So, is this a good way to get a small amount of
money from one side of the world to the other?

Roland,
The first flight was on Jan 3, 2004 and the test pilot was Bob Lindsay,
Cmdr (Ret) All went well during the 30 minute flight. The plane took
over 5 years to build (it's a tri- gear) and weighed in at a heavy 925
pounds. The engine is a Jabiru 3300 and the prop was also made by
Jabiru. The plane now has about 42 hours on it having just passed the
FAA 40 hour required fly-off time. Presently, the plane is located at
Ramona Airport (RNM) but I may be moving it soon to either French Valley
(F70) or my home base at Fallbrook (L18). If you need more info, please
let me know.

Yes, I have, {;-)
I chose bronze because it removes only blue end of the spectrum, which
mostly includes the light scattered by haze, dust etc. There is a
noticeable increase in contrast, this is why the best pilots sunglasses are
bronze too. Grey tint removes all frequencies so reduces overall
information content with no improvement in contrast.
If night flying is important it may be that clear is the best. Clear is
best fpor photography too of course although really a direct vision panel
is neede, there are always reflections from inside the cockpit

that implies that he thinks someone will get the company going again. I
think so too,I hope we are right, the world needs airplanes like the
Europa, how else can I get economical rides to Lapland and elsewhere? I am
scared my Lycosaurus powered Long EZ will burn too much expensive Avgas!

not to me, I'm afraid. The Jab is an attractive option price and simplicity
wise but it will never be as efficient as a liquid cooled engine. The prop
turns too fast for efficiency too. Worse, the cylinder heads have a
reputation for warping unless installation is perfect.

Tony,
I have two businesses set up to use Paypal. Works fine and is as cheap
as using any credit card...

Rob,
I would love to have a pdf version of the POH. I'm kit A086. I
purchased by stage one from someone who had a change of life and could
not start the project. That was five years ago. Stage two and three
were purchased from lakeland.
My XS kit did not come with a POH as they were not written at that
time. I know I'm building a Mono instead of a Tri but I would love to
have a copy anyway.

Well...thank you All!
Clear it is (for me, anyway) as I recall trying my Sun Tiger blue-blocker
sunglasses at night...they didn't stay on very long!

All
The wife and I have just completed the biggest adventure of our life. It
was a trip to Oshkosh EAA convention. What a big event. We flew cross
country 1,657 miles, over the Rocky Mountains in Montana and across North
Dakota. When departing the Fly-in we headed SW 1,519 miles to visit my
ageing Dad in Arizona. Then over to California and North to KPAE, Everett,
Washington USA , home ! The total distance was 4,632 miles, in 36 flying
hours. The hole trip was a series of short two to three hour trips. I
planned to go from airport to airport, checking the weather ahead each stop.
We had some very interesting experiences with free cars and being strangers
in small towns. The weather was very good for flying. Hot though! Like in
Pratt, Kansas, where we bought gas and had a rest. It was 101 F with a
humidly so high it looked like it would rain.
The hottest I saw the H2O temperature on my engine monitor was 100C and the
oil never got that high. I attribute this to the cooling mods I have done
to the intake and exit air and the relocation of the oil cooler. The weather
was hot every where we flew. I went up to 8500 feet lots of times to get
OAT down to 75F.
In servicing the plane today, I found a crack in my muffler (silencer). The
weld broke on the aft port side inlet. Fortunately there was a forum
subject the other day about the supplier Europa used for the muffler. I am
hoping I can buy a replacement and get flying again. We had so much fun.

. . . . . . . . .
Cliff,
It heartens me to read of your adventure and the air of excitement it
conveys.
This is exactly the sort of thing I am looking forward to doing myself
one day cause that is what I reckon all this home building business is
about.
If I wasn't at work at the moment, I'd be back on the job with renewed
enthusiasm so thanks for sharing your experience with us.

Mike - when you say 'physical protection' are you talking about anti
chaffing or 'p' clip support?
I have put both of my cbs in the panel but have tried to anchor every 3-4''.
Where I breach the firewall I have put in a proper bulkhead seal which I
will fill with silicone once the panel is finally in.
