--> Europa-List message posted by: "Dave Anderson" <dja767@charter.net> Dave, Is the K36 intended to take the place of the sandable filler/primer UV Smooth-prime made by Polyfiber. Just mainly wondering why you had to use two primers and assume the Polyfiber product was not used. I already have applied Smooth-prime to most of my surfaces and plan to sand it with about 180 gt then let the body shop use the recommended primer for the paint used.(leaning towards the PPG stuff at present.) What grit paper did you use on the K36? ##### I followed the advice of the local expert. The DP40 is a "primer / sealer". I used one coat of that. The K36 is like the UV smooth prime, but not water based. That is what I used originally - most of it sanded off for the repaint. I sanded the K36 to 400 grit. The PPG worked great. --> Europa-List message posted by: "Phil Tait" <phil@archwise.co.uk> Peter I think that you might find the its not the springs that are the problem its the bore of the cylinders them selves. I consulted Neville and Andy on this very problem and they advised as follows:- First strip the unit down into its basic components and clear out all of the polishing debris out and off all of the components. locate the PTFE disc that retains the seal and carefully with 400 wet and dry pare down the edge to take approx 1mm off the Dia Then clean all of the components and soak them in dot 5 silicone brake fluid. The cylinders should recover as required but only if the brake system is installed, filled and bleed. If you have had normal car brake fluid anywhere near the components the seals are scrap and need replacing. --> Europa-List message posted by: "KARL HEINDL" <kheindl@msn.com> Peter, Didn't someone ask the same question a few days ago , to which I replied ? The springs are definitely too weak. As a probably temporary solution I inserted smaller diameter and shorter springs inside the existing springs with the desired result. One or two builders have had problems with swelling of the seals. A new seal has a diameter of 21 mm at the open end, and this should remain the same. So there's now less of it, but solvent is the painter's friend, and the hint for potential trouble are words like low VOCs or high solids. Especially for HVLP guns, as I noted in a discussion board of auto body people and lurkers for wisdom. It's like you just can't just buy a DeVilbiss HVLP anymore, but only a certain model Binks or DeVilbiss with a certain tip will shoot Brand/Type X, especially clearcoat. Try a higher temp thinner than OAT calls for, etc. If a pro does a great job, I think lately it's the shop, and not so much the product. It may be also that where the shop operates permits them use traditional guns. There used to be a paint shop in the hangar near my plane. The mandatory air scrubbing eqiup was enormous, but nary a whiff when some bizjet was gettin' gussied up. Reg, Fred F.

--> Europa-List message posted by: John & Paddy Wigney <johnwigney@worldnet.att.net> <<<<<<<<Time: 01:32:05 PM PST US From: "Carl Pattinson" <carl_p@ntlworld.com> Subject: Re: Europa-List: EIS versus Steam Gauges If you fit an EIS just make sure you have a means to isolate it from the main bus during startup. We have found that if the EIS is not switched off on startup (starter cranking) the spikes often scramble the memory and alarms which take about 20 mins to reset again. The worst thing is the reset ususlly causes the screen contrast to go to zero and then everything becomes impossible to ajust until the screen contrast can be increased (ie: the display appears to go blank). I would suggest that a momentary disconnect button is fitted close to the starter switch so that temporary isolation can be effected, though a more sophisticated setup could include an isolator solenoid connected to the starter solenoid. An manually operated isolator switch (which is what we have) is not a very satisfactory solution as its very easy to leave it on during startup and also easy to forget to turn it back on after startup.>>>>>>>>> Hi Carl, I think there may be a glitch in either your circuit or with your EIS since I am sure that the unit is designed to accept any start-up spikes. My Grand Rapids EIS stays on during the start with no problems and I am not aware of an EIS owner having the problems you describe. Have you discussed the problems with Greg Toman at Grand Rapids? I have always found him to be most helpful. Cheers, John N262WF, mono XS, 912S

Mine is .7" x circa .032" thick and same (will rust unless..) steel, and .032" seems to do as intended. It would have been an appropriate dimension in response to an elderly, long-time scratch builder who likes to advise me in such matters one word..."medium." :-) My friend's guidance seems could imply thicker aluminum also. --> Europa-List message posted by: "Rob Housman" <RobH@hyperion-ef.com> Jeremy, you apparently have a more recent version of the manual. My version, and I suspect Dave's version may be the same, has no mention of this minor detail. The first two PAGES in Chapter 9 of Issue 1 of the Tri-Gear Manual dated 30 May 1998 discuss attaching the aileron hinges and then it goes on to discuss various other subjects. Because there are several versions of the "Builders (sic) Manual" it would help avoid confusion (or thinking: RTFM, dude!), and make it more likely that a posting would get a reply, if we mentioned what version we are using. I responded to Dave off-list with a photo.
