You must erase the file TLR.CFG, and try accessing the program again. The command at the C> prompt is: erase tlr.cfg, if the program is located at the root directory, otherwise you must go to the directory where the program and cfg file is located and type in the erase command "Carpenter, Matt" wrote: --> Europa-List message posted by: "Carpenter, Matt" Hello, I downloaded the new version of testing software for the TCU. Then I checked the serial numbers (again), and my serial number is above the need for a dongle.. I then started my laptop up in DOS mode only.. I turned the TCU on, the turbo warning lights went on then off. But, when the program tries to "talk" to the TCU it tells me "Error Serial I/O". The manual says that its not talking to the TCU. I have no idea what version the TCU is. The engine was installed in 1999 - 2000 range. Any ideas? The serial cable looks fine.. I would have to take the panel out to get to the TCU. After many hours last night I was able to track down the wire.. it goes no where. So, is there a place to add a temp probe to a 914? I went through the manuals and I find no place that you can add a probe/use current probe to get water temps. The other method would be to only watch the CHT, is that what most 914 owners do? On a side note.. I tracked down the OAT (also goes to EIS 2000), and found that it connects to a small metal piece behind the avionics panel. The other day the temp was around 95 OAT, and the OAT on the EIS said 95, but after the engine ran for a bit, it had jumped to 110.. so the OAT probe is picking up heat from the avionics, and some off the engine. Where SHOULD it be located? I'm using Shell Advance VSX-4 (synthetic based oil) as recommended, since my unleaded mogas is occasionally supplemented with 100LL. I suppose the Rotax runs at an average of 5100-5200RPM in cruise, measured on Skydrives Flydat. I burn oil, and always have, perhaps a bit more than in the early days. Useage is within the limits as described in the user manual. I probably top up every eight weeks or so. Having said that, I have suffered from the odd leak from places like oil filter seal and from under the four covers of the cylinder heads, which has made estimating more difficult. Difference is that mine does not consume any noticable amounts of oil. She has done 270 hours using recomended semi-synthetics. Until today, I thought that this normal. I would not have thought 1-2 litres to be normal every 50hours. No doubt someone will be responding to suggest that using 'no oil' is something to worry about, but I will worry about that when it happens. Nor do I have nicotine stains. Cow shit, yes! There is probably nothing to get too concerned about immediately, but I would suggest that you keep very careful records of oil/hours from now on to identify any trends at the earliest. You probably dont need advice as obvious as that though. We originally set the prop to 19deg, but during the first runs the aircraft tacho was recording 5500 - 5600 static which we thought much too high (we had been told by other Europa owners with the same spec to aim for 21 deg if not 22.) We reset to 21 deg and got 5100 - 5200 static. A few words of advice follows my little shop accidents today: 1) never leave anything loose near engine intake.. A #8 machine screw and fender washer were inadvertantly left on airbox after removing filter for some reason. I was very lucky - the washer bottomed out on floor of airbox tube leading to carb adapter. The screw was inside throtle plate! If it had migrated into manifold I think the rebuild would have been expensive. OK, you have all heard that one before, but the next is not one that had been pointed out to me before. I was testing wiring in wing to explain Nav light breaker popping 3-4 seconds after turning on lights. never mind why, it's fixed. However when I removed outer retaining screws on the Whelan 650 fixture, being relatively careful, the strobe lens just about popped out of the base and shattered on the floor. Just thinking Fred, in view of the fact that it seems to have shrunk in one direction only, if you place the perspex on a door and press in the middle, will it not straighten out enough to cover 10mm or so of the door flange ? Advice I received from Neville Eyre . . . .
