--> Europa-List message posted by: "Carpenter, Matt" <mcarpenter@concordefs.com>
My EIS 2000 watches EGT, CHT, MP, Oil Temp/Pressure, etc.
EGT is always good on mine, so I am not worried about the RPM.. UNTIL I saw
last night that the EIS 2000 says "If you have a Rotax CDI then set the RPM
input to a 6", "If you
have a Rotax 912 then set the RPM input to a 1" .. mine is at a 1. I am
calling Grand Rapids today
to find out what it really should be.
Also found out last night that I have the older TCU, so I cannot use the new
software. I have to rent
a dongle and software for 50 dollars per day. I need it to adjust the
throttle pot. Right now 115% is almost
1/2 way full throttle open. Makes it feel weird at take off.
Thanks!

that their Rotax tacho was under-reading by 600RPM! Says something about
the durability of Rotax engines!!!
I'd second that recommendation to check the Rotax tacho. We had one
owner here who, as it turned out, had been overrevving his 914 by 1200+
RPM for eighteen months due to a miscalibrated tacho. If he had EGT
gauges he would have realised earlier that his engine was being fried
but the plane had been build with the minimum of engine instrumentation.
When we stripped the engine down it was a far from pretty sight inside
with valve burn, annealed pistons and an extremely soft cylinder head.
With a few 1000 dollars thrown into replacement parts the engine
performed like new when I test flew it and it's been behaving well ever
since.

To anyone planning to go to Old Buckenham tomorrow, I have just checked
Notams and there is an excersise (TLP) with up to 32 fast jets in the
area. I have checked with the phone number on the notam and been advised
that they will not be operating below 4000 ft tomorrow. (Watton is also
active parachuting).
See you there I hope.

I'd think that UV degradation over time would be the biggest factor.
Ignoring whatever UV inhibitors may be in the plexiglass, indoor
storage and/or cabin cover should mitigate that for more years the
acrylic will last.. The softening point of fully cured Redux is very
high, much more than what the sun can ever do, something which can be
tested. Looks like worst possible case about 155F deg., as the bronze
acrylic appears to cut it back around 10F. At least, that's what my
infrared temp gun implied on a warm day, extrapolated to mid-90's OAT.
Redux at 200F I found yields under the point of an awl, if pressed
hard, but a test sample could not be pulled apart any easier in
peeling stress at that temp. Nice to know what holds half the plane
together "ain't chopped liver," as they say!

Fred F.

Subject: | Kremen props-VAT |
--> Europa-List message posted by: "bryan allsop" <info@blackballclub.fsnet.co.uk>
Having checked with my accountant, the SP on VAT in the UK is:-
1. If purchased privately with out access to a UK VAT registration number, the
supplier must invoice the VAT at the rate pertaining in his country.
2. If purchased by a VAT registered UK company their VAT rate will apply.
So! If you own a UK VAT registered company, let it buy the prop for you, then buy
it off your company at the UK (17.5%) VAT rate. Otherwise, Kremen have no choice
but to invoice you at their domestic VAT rate (19%). The difference is only
=A330.00, so you may not worry about it.
Thus your SR2000 variable pitch prop. plus the MCS constant speed controller etc.,
will cost 2660 Euros plus 505.4 Euros. Totalling 3165.54 Euros.
In English =A32000 (rounded). I do not know if VAT is charged on exports to none
European countries.
I will just dunk my head in cold water now, and have a stiff gin.
Best regards! Bryan

I'm using DOT-3. Its a clear liquid, silicone?
Somewhere in the build process I was told to use the automobile brake fluid
instead of aviation grade.
The brake pads I use are Cleveland 66-106. The brake assembly looks exactly like
the Cleveland brakes I'm getting ready to instal on the RV-7A that we are
building.

Hi all,
I pulled out the piston and the bore was quite corroded. I guess it was
from sitting around so long and some moisture got in it. There were also a
few metal filings inside but they had not got between the bore and piston.
I would recomend to any builder that has had there kit for a while to
disassemble the brake unit, check for corrosion and put in some corrosion
inhibitor.

I am wondering what your opinion of the Kremen is compared to the
Airmaster?? I know there is a lot of both in your part of the world, but
not so many Kremens. I do like their blade shapes though. So, am interested
in an assessment of the quality of both. Does the Kremen have a constant
speed function like the Airmaster??

Fred,
I would be the last to question your experiments (I am only a Secondary
Modern Brat). However, I did hear that the RAF Slingsby Firefly suffered
some heat damage to its carbon composite wing when the military decided to
paint the aircraft black for conspicuity. Furthermore, all the worlds major
composite sailplane manufacturers seem to produce their aircraft in white
and even the advice in the Europa manual is/was to keep away from dark
colours. "Much more than the sun can ever do" - don't know about that, I
can still recall watching an egg fry on the apron in Arizona. My aircraft
is white and it is staying that way but hey, -- if that is what you want ,
go for it.

I'm afraid I won't be able to make it to Old Buckenham DOTH today, but I would
like to propose a mass fly-in to Turweston on Saturday for the AGM. Considering
current events, I think this will be a most important AGM and it would be good
if the Europa Club is well represented.
Best wishes,
