Seeking to obtain a calibration weight. You will not, of course, need a calibration weight if the only application is to build your a/c. All that matters is the linearity, i.e. that a reading of, say, 100g really is 4 times as much as a reading of 25g. This can be checked readily with a bag of objects of the same weight (such as AN nuts). [I checked this on my scale and the linearity was spot-on. I also checked the readings with another scale of the same type, all the way up the scale, and they were all but identical.] John Cliff #0259 ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 02:20:37 AM PST US September) Subject: Re: Europa-List: Last of the Summer Wine - 2004 (23rd to 26th September) From: Gerry Holland --> Europa-List message posted by: Gerry Holland Duncan > I thought that Last of the Summer Wine was all about the exploits of a > number of infantile-regressed old codgers with not much else to do?! I am using the fuel flow functionality in the Grand Rapids EIS 4000. Take a look at http://europa363.versadev.com/ under Saturday 3, January 2004 and you can see how I mounted up the flow sensors Although the way I have mounted the flow sensors work, I would suggest that you don't copy my idea. Ideally the flow sensors should have a much more of a gentle radius in the entry and exit to ensure a smooth flow. I'm Andy Silvester, with Suncoast Sportplanes, Inc, near Naples, Florida. We're the Jabiru engines (and aircraft) dealer for the southern USA and are planning to be offering complete 'Firewall forward' Jabiru 3300 120hp 6-cylinder engine installation packages for the Europa, within the next few months. Europa Aviation in USA in Lakeland, FL is within our trading territory and I've been working closely with John Hurst and a Europa Customer to complete a 'clean-sheet' installation package, including new cowlings having round ram-air cooling duct inlets, a matching spinner and all the other items necessary for a turn-key Jabiru installation. Europa's temporary demise (for us) hasn't altered our focus or determination to perfect the installation, and we're progressing well. We're fortunate to have a Customer's Europa tri-gear to work on here and to date, we've completed the cowl 'plug' for the mold on the newly-installed Jabiru 3300 engine. The remaining work is to finish-up some instrumentation, test-run the engine to check ground cooling, etc, and then hand the project back to the Customer who will arrange for final inspection and test-flying. Once we're happy with the performance of the installation in the air, we'll use the prototype cowlings to take a mold for the production version, and after that, we'll be able to offer the complete package including full documentation. My wish is to offer the packages thro' Europa Aviation as an OEM supplier of the Jabiru engine. Many of you will be aware of, or owners of Jabiru installations, and I've been associated with Jabiru both here in USA (3 years) and in UK (5 years before that), so I know the engine, and what makes for a well-performing installation. We're using this experience to optimize the Europa installation and I'm confident that both Owners and Europa Aviation here in USA and hopefully in UK will like the result. Obviously, my aim is to produce a package which will sell competitively with other engine options, and one which, through close customer support and documentation, is seen as a clean and straightforward installation to achieve for both new builds and retro-fits. I was asked to post this information by our Europa Customer and hope it provides an update to those considering, or just interested in, Jabiru engines. I'll be happy to discuss any related questions either here on the list, or via direct email. Thanks. I'm after a tacho that includes an 'hours run' indicator that incriments at a rate proportional to the engine speed (as opposed to time) so that we can charge for use of the aircraft based on how hard rather than just how long the engine has run. Does anyone have any suggestions of a suitable instrument and if so, were I can get one? What I intended and should have written was: "looking at McMaster-Carr catalogue pg. 3088, you find a picture of the aluminum "L" handle type "D" quick release pin; this APPEARS to be EXACTLY like that supplied w/ kit." On pg. 3089, you will find it listed as part #90302A415, a 1/2" dia. pin w/ 2 balls and a 3 1/2" usable length for $33.27 ea. You will also find a picture of the aluminum "T" handle type "G". For those with a "hammer to fit" situation, the heavy duty 2 ball quick release pin, part #90980A555 which has a welded steel "T" handle at $57.08 each, a 2 ball 1/2" pin w/ a 3 1/2" usable length, may be just the ticket. It is adjustable to suit 4 and 6 cylinder engines and the cruise rpm that the hours assumes can be adjusted. Although it does mean replacing your existing engine instruments it provides a very comprehensive display of most engine parameters including fuel flow and calculated fuel quantity. The fuel quantity is very accurate provided you load in the correct fuel figures to start with. This unit is standard rack width so it fits in well with other avionics and saves weight and panel space over conventional instrumentation.
