There's another problem, forming Lexan requires very high temperature, and the softening range is very narrow . Extremely difficult to handle Graham My reasons for not getting on with making lenses is the scrap rate! Had to make 6 to get 2 good ones! I haven't given up but I need to get my Long EZ out of the shed. Nothing to fly right now. Graham

--> Europa-List message posted by: bizzarro@easynet.co.uk Hi Everyone Whilst at the PFA rally this year, I noticed several Europa's with a modification on their tail wheels. This appeared to comprise of a piece of fairly thick metal sheet attached to the top of the tail wheel castor which had a "V" cut into it. I presume this is to prevent one from rotating the castor too far and thus breaking the grease nipple off of the assembly. I managed to do the breaking off the grease nipple a couple of weeks ago and so would like to fit that mod to my plane to prevent it from happening again. Can anyone tell me who designed the mod and where can I find details of it? FILETIME=[39489150:01C4B76A] --> Europa-List message posted by: "Rosen, Mattias" <MRosen@harmanbecker.com> Hi All, Is there anyone out there who has wing tanks built into a Europa? I remember hearing something about a Europa with wing tanks at a fly-in in Speyer, Germany two years ago. Also, I recently learned that the Dyn=B4A=E9ro MCR aircraft (Ban-Bi) can be delivered with up to 200 liter wing tanks for those exciting inter-continental flights :-) I want my Europa to become a long range touring aircraft, and I really like the idea of having wing tanks in addition to the . Does anyone have any experience on this? This appeared to comprise of a piece of >>fairly thick metal sheet attached to the top of the tail wheel castor which had >>a "V" cut into it. I would hazard a guess that those had Graham Singleton's tailwheel mod fitted. The V block, as you correctly guessed, does act as a wheel stop. For those with Graham's mod the kiwi's now have a mod to the mod! We found that the 2:1 tailwheel to rudder ratio was too much for early hour pilots to handle on sealed runways. It was fine on the grass but resulted in some er, entertaining, manoeuvres on the seal. Peter Robson made a replacement cable arm that goes across the top of the wheel to include three cable termination holes. One give the original 1:1 ratio found on the standard build, the next gives a 1.5 to 1 ratio and the final gives Grahams's 2:1 ratio. We've found that the 1.5:1 ratio still gives a good turning radius but makes the plane less entertaining on the seal for low hour pilots than the 2:1 ratio. I have a scale drawing which I am happy to email anyone upon request if they want to do the mod to the mod. Contact me off list for this. Regards Tony

--> Europa-List message posted by: DuaneFamly@aol.com Good Day All, Just finished the first day at the AOPA Expo at the Long Beach Convention Center just south of Los Angeles, California. I wonder how AOPA can charge $50 per day in order for people to visit vendors selling their wares that also paid for their booth, while EAA does it for about half that price and has planes to look at? Anyway.....one vendor of weather information that people can upload to their PDA's gave me a business card that would allow me to try it until the 13 Nov. If anyone would like to play with this for free (I don't need it now and I do not endorse it, but I figured for those that couldn't make the show, they can try if interested and compare it to others). www.weathertap.com User Name: AOPA2004 Password: AOPA2004 Mike Duane A207 XS Conventional Gear Redding, California Not building while on the road....but still thinking of it.

    Subject: Carb Balancing
--> Europa-List message posted by: "Dave Anderson" <dja767@charter.net> A quick question on balancing. I have balanced the carbs numerous times with a twin engine MP gauge. When the balance tube is disconnected, the engine obviously runs rougher. At one point in the balancing process, I started the engine and it ran very smoothly, but the MP gauge still showed a split. Matching the readings on the gauge made it run rougher - but that improved with the balance tube connected. The engine shakes passing through about 2600 RPM - smooth above and below. It seems like balance - the mags have no effect on the smoothness. My guess is that either I have a miss match in mixture as well, or the technique I am using is not right. Here is the question: Should the engine run the smoothest when doing the balance with the balance tube disconnected and the carbs are well matched? What have others found. BTW - I flew the Mini U2 today up to 20,000 feet. With the 914 engine, the climb rate solo was still 900 FPM at 20,000 feet. You gotta like that! Dave A227 Mini U2 261TT

The nut on the rear hinge of the starboard door pulled through the tang on N135TD a few months ago, at about 3 years/350 hours. I had recently given about 10 rides in very windy conditions, so that may have finished it off. We had to keep on flying, so we just flattened out the top surface to take a large (AN970) washer, and let the nut protrude out the top. Not very pretty, but it's nice and solid, and there are plenty of other things higher on our list than hiding the nut at this point. Dave DeFord N135TD (flying)

It's a consumer tax but, unlike the US, it's already included in displayed prices so that you don't have to suddenly try and find the extra 84c that they add above the marked price when you go to pay.
