The sharper observers of the "flying aircraft" page on the Europa
Club website may notice that there are now _less_ aircraft identified
as having flown than there were last week. This is because G-OIZI,
the aircraft purportedly shown flying in the TV series "A plane is
born", has had its registration cancelled by the CAA because "No
Permit to Fly issued". I guess that goes to show that you shouldn't
believe everything you see on the telly! Certainly the aircraft shown
in flight had no visible markings, which always struck me as very
odd. Perhaps Neville or someone involved with the making of the
programme might care to let us know more about the true state or fate
of G-OIZI. Did it get a Permit to Test but never a full Permit? Or
did it never (yet) get completed to be ready for flight?

Redman Nichols, the administrator for Europa Management International Ltd.,
have appointed a debt collector to recover any outstanding payments due to
EMIL. The company concerned is:-
Trading Finance & Dept Collectors
3, Victoria Avenue
Hornsea
East Yorkshire
HU18.1NH Voice & Fax 01964 534653
They are sending out demands for payment based on entries in the EMIL
records of bills issued but not paid. This has already led to one builder
receiving a demand for about 5,000, of which he is entirely unaware, and
does not owe.
I have spoken the company and they fully recognise that the record are in a
very poor state and may lead them to issue demands for money that has
already been paid or even relate to fraudulent accounting. So if you
receive a communication from this company please do one of the following:-
1) If the invoice is valid and you have received the goods/service please
pay up.
2) If you have previously paid the invoice please inform them of a) The
exact amount paid, b) the cheque number, c) The date you sent the payment
and d) if possible the date on your bank/credit card statement on which the
payment was cleared.
3) If you know nothing of the alleged invoice please contact them and ask
for a copy of the invoice and any other details they have.
This third point is crucial if they are going to be able to spot any
underhand or illegal accounting.

I think I met Walter at the factory many years ago, collecting a couple of
Classic kits. Am I right in thinking he doesn't speak much English?
Putting fuel in the wings actually reduces the loads, the only time the
loads are worse is on the ground. This is why Airbus Boeing hang the
engines out there. (and most of the fuel)

I reckon you can almost make a four-seater Europa if the fuel is in the
wing, or at least a 2+2. so long as it is built light (<760lbs).

Mike, I had the panel plus the instrument cut out panel ( IM01T ) and the
engine instrument panel ( IMO3TV ) sprayed in a dark grey anthracite. Cost
70. Looks pretty cool at the moment, but time will tell :-)
I took the panel up myself as I had to pick up some bits and pieces from
EMIL, so no post costs were involved

And thank God for that! Such schenanigans seem to fit with what IMHO has
been a somewhat flaky TV series in sharp and unflattering contrast with that
which has been run on the making of an RV.

Subject: | FW: Posting from Gary Walsh to Europa list...NSI Prop Failure |
--> Europa-List message posted by: "M.J. Gregory" <m.j.gregory@talk21.com>
Gary Walsh has asked me to post this on the Europa list to help publicise a
potential problem with early NSI Cap140 props on a Rotax 912S. The story
and pictures on his web site are well worth a look if you think it may apply
to you, and should also be seen by anyone who thinks the PFA are being fussy
when they insist on the approval of every engine/prop combination.

----------------------------
Dear Europa Owners
I fly a Kitfox with a Rotax 912S, and until recently a NSI CAP 140
adjustable prop. Three months ago I had an in flight failure whereby the
prop failed and a blade departed. I got the airplane down safely, but there
was significant damage to the engine mount, oil and exhaust systems, and one
of my amphibious floats.
From discussions with others, I learned of a similar incident with a Europa
in 2002 after that owner upgraded his engine to the 912S. In that case a
crack was discovered before it failed completely, and the blade cuff was
returned to the manufacturer and upgraded. This appears to have solved the
problem when running the prop on the 912S (at least the owner has
accumulated 500 hours with no reported problem). This upgrade has been
available for several years now, however the manufacturer has made no
attempt to let their customers know about it.
If you are running a CAP 140 prop, I suggest you contact the manufacturer as
soon as possible. If you are running that prop on the 912S, I would suggest
that you ground the aircraft until you can determine what version of the
cuff you have.
Anyone who wants details can look to my web site. I have copies of a lab
report that documents the failure of my prop, and a copy of the PFA notice
about the incident on the Europa in 2002.

Hi All,
I have heard from a number of builders that they have recieved a demand for
money owed to EMIL, to be paid to Redman Nichols within 7 days.
None of them believe they owed anything. We are talking about small amounts,
but if they have done this to a large number of you, it could add up ?
Check your records before paying, or ask for details of what and when ? Might
be a scam? [alledgely !]
Cheers,

It was my understanding that the A Plane Is Born kit was never completed,
and the aircraft shown flying was indeed 'in drag'. I forget which aircraft
it really was, though.
I also remember hearing that the APIB kit was acquired shortly before the
collapse of EMIL by a creditor in lieu of the debt. Perhaps it will appear
on the market soon!
Of course, I also remember being told by EMIL that Mark Evans was trying to
acquire 'Leonie', even though he'd done relatively little of the work on it
- a Friday a week while a contract builder did the real work full time!
Cheers,

Graham,
That would have been correct at the time at least. I remember reading a
funny article by Ivan Shaw in one of my early Europa Newsletters. (In
the days when they were printed on shiny paper). Ivan said that he
spoke no German and Walter spoke no English but somehow they managed to
communicate. Ivan also got the impression that Walter would walk
through a brick wall if one got in the way! I think this was borne out
by the mods Walter did and from someone I know in the gliding
fraternity, on all accounts Walter is a very smart man. I also have my
suspicions that some of the ideas in the XS were born from some of
Walter's mods.
I saw the funny side of the article hence my being able to remember
something for a change.

Subject: | Engine Fuel Return Using Mod Fittings |
--> Europa-List message posted by: EuropaXSA276@aol.com
Hello all.
I have bee examining a number of routing methods for fuel, sight gauge, and
fuel return lines to the point that I have COMPLETELY confused myself MORE THAN
ONCE!
< And yes... I know I said that I would be bonding that module in over 3
weeks ago! So I'm a bit behind! OK?>
I'll be installing the mod fittings for the water drains which include the
modified 3 port tank vent fitting.
My question is that some of you that have installed these fitting are
electing to connect engine fuel return AND the sight tube to one of the 1/8 pipe
ports at the vent fitting.
And some that are using the new type fittings are still connecting to the 1/8
pipe port at starboard side of the tank
.
I would like to hear opinion on which route is best and why.
Will the tank vent properly with the fuel continuously retuning into the
fitting?
Thanks so much for the Help!

Kingsley,
Here is a photo of my set up. I used screw terminals that attached to the
fuse holders. I seem to recall that I put the screws in with locktite
because they are critical to the system. I think that I used 25 or 30 amp
cartridge fuses.
The OVP I used is the one as described by the Europa club, but don't use the
circuit on there CD, its wrong. Write to Rowland to get directions to where
to get a hold of the right one.
As far as wiring I followed Bob Nuckolls idea out of his book. I ended up
with a fuse block and a small circuit breaker panel with essential devices
on pull able circuit breakers. The eBus can be feed from either the battery
of a second small battery. I wanted lots of redundancy because the 914 has
electric fuel pumps.

Brian
I used the three 1/8" fitting per side method. I made the "main" on the fill
hole side and the reserve on the pilot side. I thought it made better since
that way, do it as you see fit. I don't think there is much value either
way.
The sight tube is coming off the main side. The return is going in on the
reserve side. Each side uses the bottom hole for the sump drain. The last
hole on each side goes to the selector valve. Then to a gas collator/sump
with it's drain and then to the electric fuel pump.
The only thing I saw that was not normal in the way it worked was when I was
using the electric pump to pump the tank dry for weighing. The sight gauge
would drop an inch when the pump was sucking from that side. If I switched
to the other side the sight gauge would be steady. I reasoned that there
was a low pressure from the pump and that my sight gauge is only used as a
ground check anyway, so it was OK.
Your tank vent is coming off the top of the tank by the fill hole. I think
the 1/4" pipe could be bigger as I get a inch too high indication as the
fuel fills above the fill hole opening and all the air must exit the vent
tube. (I am dumping from a Gas can and watching the sight gauge) If I let
it settle and fill very slow it is normal. This is OK to, I guess.
Hope this helps. I got kind of long winded there.
