      Greetings all,

Although I've only had one flight, about an hour, behind a Jabiru 3300 fitted
with an Airmaster, that being Andy's J400 Demo, I would have to agree with
Andy from my observation that the combo works very well. I was amazed at how
quiet both the engine and propeller were. When he departed our field bound for

Oshkosh we could barely hear the aircraft by the time he reached the fence at
the south end of our runway, about 1800' away. Everyone watching commented how

quiet it was. I was also very pleased with how smooth the engine ran, i.e.,
considerably less vibration as compared to several Rotax powered aircraft I've

flown. This is likely because the 6 cylinder Jabiru is better balanced than the

4 cylinder Rotax and because of the relative crank position as each cylinder
fires. I experience the same phenomenon when I compare my 0-320 powered
Citabria to my 0-540 powered Pawnee. The Pawnee's 6 cylinder engine has far less

vibration than the 4 cylinder 0-320.

      Regards,

      Gentlemen:

      Don't forget FAR 61.31(k)(iii)(B), from FAR/AIM 2005 (Changed since
last issuance). Here are the pertinent sections:

61.31 Type rating requirements, additional training, and authorization
      requirements.
      .....
      (e) Additional training required for operating complex airplanes.
      .....
      (i) Additional training required for operating tailwheel airplanes.
      .....
      (k) Exceptions
      .....
        (2) The rating limitations of this section do not apply to--
      .....
(iii) The holder of a pilot certificate when operating an aircraft
      under the authority of--
      .....
          (B) An experimental certificate, unless the operation involves
      carrying a passenger;

You had best check out this entire section from FAR/AIM 2005. But the
way I read it all, if you are not carrying a passenger, you do not need
the complex and tailwheel endorsements. If you ARE carrying a
passenger you DO need the complex and tailwheel endorsements.

I agree, that your insurance company will probably be the final
      judgment in any case.

      Hi Ron,

FAR 61.31(e)(1) defines a complex airplane as having "retractable landing
gear, flaps and a controllable pitch propeller", so I think a mono airplane
(short wings) is considered complex. But the motorglider is not an airplane
but a glider, so it's not a complex airplane (same applies to tailwheel, its
      not an airplane).

Paul brings up an interesting point with 61.31(k)(2)(iii) but I think that
the FAA would argue that the complex and tailwheel endorsements are not
"limitations" but are "Additional training required".

      Just my 2 cents!

      Gentlepeople,

As I've mentioned on this forum, I've made some polycarbonate wingtip
      lighting covers.

I'm having no end of trouble getting some images in postable form; could
some kind soul who has the whole digital image drill down pat, perhaps help
      me?

I am making my first attempts to download images from my new Coolpix 5700 to
my Mac iBook. I'm totally frustrated at my inability to shrink the images so
that the whole image fills the screen.

For example, whereas I can see on my camera monitor screen a full, nicely
framed image, but when I download the image to my computer and click on the
icon to bring it up on my computer screen, not only is it vastly oversized
thus requiring scrolling both up & down and side to side, but for some
reason the image is cropped and does not show the entire nicely framed image
which I can see on the camera monitor.

I can't seem to find a means to shrink the image to fit the window. I'm
working with a Mac running OS 9.2.

Can anyone give me some pointers on how to do this?

      Fred,
The issue should be one of the resolution. Your camera is taking photos
at let say 1200 dpi and the monitor can only display at 75dpi. So, the
image you see is huge. Try changing the resolution and see how that works.
