--> Europa-List message posted by: ptag.dev@tiscali.co.uk Hi! Graham The point I'm making is that there hasn't IMHO been sufficient investigation to have the least toe in possible, hence the excessive tyre wear and with it the extended take off liklihood due to rolling drag. If the legs are set up with the fuselage supported, no wings, no fuel, and no Pilot it is unlikely to be best possible in practice. To be sorted properly it needs some kind of vernier adjustment on the top if the legs Regards Bob H G-PTAG >-- Original Message -- >Date: Wed, 22 Dec 2004 23:33:05 +0000 >To: europa-list@matronics.com >From: Graham Singleton <graham@gflight.f9.co.uk> >Subject: Europa-List: Re: Europa-List Digest: 18 Msgs - 12/21/04 >Reply-To: europa-list@matronics.com > > >--> Europa-List message posted by: Graham Singleton <graham@gflight.f9.co.uk> > >At 23:56 21/12/2004 -0800, you wrote: >>The problem is due to excessive toe in. >>IMHO it is likely to have been improved had the toe in design been >>reduced to the bare minimum with the a/c having wings fitted ,1/4 tank >>of fuel and an average Pilot weight in the P1 seat. > >Bob >does the toe in increase with load. --> Europa-List message posted by: Andrew Sarangan <asarangan@yahoo.com> I wonder if anyone can help me locate the tapered ply-ends in my wing root. I have to apply the reinforcement plies over these ends. I took some photos of the wing root. If you click on the links below you can see them. Suggestions are greatly appreciated. http://131.238.38.204/~sarangan/aviation/europa/forum/canon003.jpg http://131.238.38.204/~sarangan/aviation/europa/forum/canon004.jpg http://131.238.38.204/~sarangan/aviation/europa/forum/canon005.jpg http://131.238.38.204/~sarangan/aviation/europa/forum/canon006.jpg Thanks!

--> Europa-List message posted by: NevEyre@aol.com Hi Andrew, Don't waste time looking for the ends of the glass plies........ Take the first ply of your rib / spar lay up into the radius of the stack of alloy plates [ make this one the long one on the spar]. The second ply, the next shorter on the spar, should be 1/2'' [ 13mm in foriegn] shorter than the first, at the stack end. The third ply, [ the shortest onto the spar] should be 1/2'' shorter again at the stack end. Ensure you scuff into the radius with 80 grit, if the peel ply didn't go as far as that. Job done ! Have a good one ! Cheers, Nev.

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Cliff Shaw" <flyinggpa@comcast.net> Andrew Are you reading the instructions right??? You are to lay three layers of glass over the wing rib/spar joint. They are to be staggered so as to taper the ending strength. This is a reinforcing type of task. I remember doing this job by laying the glass up in-between plastic sheets. Get it all laid out staggered correctly on the work bench and wet it out using the "between two plastic sheets" method. That is what I did ! Cliff Shaw 1041 Euclid ave. --> Europa-List message posted by: Andrew Sarangan <asarangan@yahoo.com> Thanks Nev! But I think I have found where the plies terminate. By looking at the trimmed edges around the wing root, I found a place where the plies changed thickness which gave away the location. --- NevEyre@aol.com wrote: > --> Europa-List message posted by: NevEyre@aol.com > > Hi Andrew, > Don't waste time looking for the ends of the glass plies........ > Take the first ply of your rib / spar lay up into the radius of the > stack of > alloy plates [ make this one the long one on the spar]. > The second ply, the next shorter on the spar, should be 1/2'' [ 13mm > in > foriegn] shorter than the first, at the stack end. > The third ply, [ the shortest onto the spar] should be 1/2'' shorter > again at > the stack end. > Ensure you scuff into the radius with 80 grit, if the peel ply didn't > go as > far as that. > Job done !
