There's two Aussie chaps chasing me for my mod. to clamp up the torque

What are the dissimulator metal rules for fittings. I have brass fittings in aluminum
for the fuel system. Then I was thinking that might not be such a good
idea. I searched gascolator in the photo gallery and saw all of them had aluminum
fittings and all of them had a brass drain valves.

In order for corrosion to result from two dissimilar metals in contact there
must also be a conductive medium, also called an electrolyte, present in
contact with both metals. Avgas and mogas are non-ionic liquids that are
non-conductive. Ergo, no corrosion will result in your example. That said,
there is a small (with emphasis on small) risk that there may be atmospheric
conditions conducive to corrosion, and this is especially true if your
aircraft is parked for an extended period near salt water where there will
be airborne salt spray, which we all know is a corrosive medium.
In the case of brass and aluminum it will be the aluminum that gets damaged
from corrosion.

Hi SteveD,
In reviewing your build/website photos, I notice you've installed a
capacitance fuel probe as well as the std sight gauge; I've read that a
number of flyers report that the sight gauge is useless.
Were you to do this over again, would you omit the sight gauge entirely?
Can you tell me the model # and source for the capacitance fuel probe and
companion gauge?

I purchased the capacitance fuel gauge from europa. The Vendor is Princeton Electronics
Inc. 616 281-5193 ask for Todd Stenhouwer.
The Gauge glass is from:
http://home.comcast.net/~nostromo56/
I was told there is a requirement to be able to visually check fuel level prior
to flight. With the europa you can't look down the filler. If I had to do it
again I think I would go with the capacitance and the gauge between the seat.
That one is accurate until the saddle.

I had the same question. Is I understand it the FAA has a requirement to be
able to measure the fuel quantity visually . (pre flight walk around)
Anyway, I made a sight gauge just behind the passenger seat in the baggage
bay. That way I can keep an eye on it while I am fueling. I think there
pictures of how I built mine on the web pictures of WEC. (Wile E. Coyote

Steved,
I'm not quite clear in the meaning of your post. Am I correct in
understanding that the "gauge" you mention is a reference to the tubular
sight guage?..that you would mount in vertical between the seat backs?..and
connect it to the tank on the main tank side of the saddle dividing the main
from the reserve?
Sorry for my ignorance, and thank you for the source for the capacitance
probe & gauge!

Fred,
Yes, the "Between the seats gauge" I meant was the clear plastic one. The gauge
is lighted, and reads from full to the level where the tank splits. Its is more
accurate then the foot-well gauges and less sensitive to pitch due to it's
proximity to the tank.

I got my trigear signed off by the FAA 5 years ago, without a sight gauge or
any visual means of checking fuel level. Perhaps the inspector just
overlooked it........I can't say whether or not it's a requirement. I do
have a capacitance gauge, but I don't trust it. I simply fly by computing
my fuel burn in GPH against the hours flown. It's very accurate.

Fred,
I built a fuel gauge designed by Tony K. It has a 0 ~ 1" pressure
transducer that sits in he lowest point in the fuel system. A
microprocessor drives either a 10 segment bar display, or if you wish, an
analogue display. Tony has the circuit details on his WEB site and will
burn a pair of micro processors for you.
I have about 160 hours on the aircraft and it works fine, but to be honest I
primarily use the fuel totalizer built into my EIS. I do not have any sight
gauge at all.

I agree. My inspector did not look at much more than the name plate. And on
it he said I put too much information, go figure. If I start out with a
full load of fuel and a cup of coffee, my bladder tells me when to land.
The Rocky Mountain Engine Monitor does an even better job. Fuel burn and
gallons remaining. I have it calibrated to right on. I do a guestaament on
the amount of fuel to top off, and come very close.

The early flap motors were Motion Industries versions identical to all flap
motors in Van's RV series and the motor does not stop on its own, it must be
stopped with the switch. The later versions stop when they reach max
travel.

surprised.
I have now read every article, story, and advertisement. I am very
impressed. With out a doughty in my mind this is the best "news letter" I
have ever had. Thanks to the "club" for sending us all a copy. I have
singed up with Roland memsec@europaclub.org.uk so I will not miss out on
another copy of this outstanding news letter.
Thanks again for sharing your publication with all of us.

When riveting the W17 end caps inside the aileron push tube, the figure
in the manual shows three rivets - top, bottom and side. From symmetry
arguments, I am assuming there is a fourth rivet on the other side of
the tube not shown on the diagram. Can anyone verify that? I looked at
others website construction logs, but could not get clear picture of
this step. Thanks for any help!

Cliff, I've looked through the gallery and I've found another mod I'd like
to bring up. What is the wing loading of an Acme sidewinder missile?
According to Janes they're 188 pounds each and cost $84,000. (17 in the
current market). Don't you think the exhaust plume is going to melt the
fiberglass? What's the CG with one missile deployed? Is the Coyote (
EATIBUS ANYTHINGUS ) licensed to be pilot in command?
What, oh what were you thinking..... : )
