Ferg, I don't think you will do any harm to the plane with acetone - I used
lots of it with the blessing of my inspector who as you know is one of the
country's experts on all things fibreglass. He insisted that the entire
surface was fine sanded to a completely matt state before contemplating
applying filler or paint. The Release coat contains a chemical which is
highly allergenic, and I developed a seriously unpleasant lung sensitivity
when sanding the fus, needing steroids and all sorts else to control - and
that's with a history of never being allergic to anything, so do be careful

Fitting the radiator (coolant heat exchanger) to the fabricated cooling duct,
the book says
"The radiator is bolted to the side platesof the cooling duct by two AN3-5A
bolts and MS21042-4(?) nuts each side."
Offering the radiator up inside the duct leaves a total gap (sum of both ends)
of about 18mm between radiator ends and duct side plates. Have other people
found this ? If so did you use tubular spacers on longer bolts to fill the
gaps, or something more elaborate ?

My radiator, supplied in 2002 was the same as your so I made tubular spacers
as you suggest and used longer bolts. Looking at the new radiator Terry
Clarke has just received this cranks in the, welded on, side plates which
make it the width of the duct.
If you use tubular spacers then the some air can go down the sides. I did
not find this a problem but outside UK you may need the additional cooling.

I am planning to install a 24V electrical system as advised by Greg Richter
of Blue Mountain avionics. The reason is that I am going 'all-electric' with
an EFIS etc and feel his arguements in terms of safety margin in the event
of alternator failure etc are compelling. I'm having difficuly in finding a
source for the 24V battery in UK. Does anyone have any information on
suppliers etc. Thanks.

Section 21 of my manual doesn't make it clear, so I am assuming that when
fully balancing the Tailplanes I must disconnect the Pitch Push-rod from TP9
thereby balancing the Tailplane only and not the Tailplane plus control
system with its inherent friction.
Appreciate the feed back.

Hi! Ron
I used an aerofoil type with static and peito integral mounted on a
small 3/4" "plinth" under the wing. Works OK but the plan was to ensure
the peito pipe never got bent, pity was.... the location I used was the
Europa recommended position forgetting that the peito port is forward of
that position. So I had to insert a 4" length of copper brake pipe to
extend the peito forward.
Can't remember where I bought it but suspect it was from the USA.

Peter,
Balancing the Tailplane is done with everything connected up. It is simply
subtracting or adding (rarely) mass from/to the mass weights to balance the
tailplane in its neutral position (along the fairing line of the fuselage).
So left alone with the mass weight on, the tailplane does not pitch up or
down by itself but remains neutral.

Ron,
My alternate is the cabin pressure. I took a tee off the static line and run
it down to just under the instrument panel with a shut off valve.
If needed then all one has to do is reach under the panel and open the
valve. The cabin pressure is a very good alternate I believe. Some say
better and use it!

Ron,
The general consensus AFAIK is to just use cabin static. Other
builders/flyers have reported minimal difference between cabin and
recommended outside static location.

John,
I filled in the space between the radiator and the side plates and added a
some of the black stuff that came with the kit. I also put some .5" sponge
rubber between the cowl and the bottom of the lowest radiator.
You want to seal up every little spot you can, otherwise the air will take
the least path of resistance. It has paid off as my mono wheel has never
had an over temperature issue while on the ground.

I think you'll find it difficult to find a "small" 24v battery. I
presume that Greg was talking about the current draw for 24v systems
being 1/2 of the current draw for 12v systems and therefore the panel
will run longer as it's drawing less current.
If this is perceived to be a problem why not just put in two 12v
batteries which are probably going to weigh the same as a 24v battery
and you can also do smart things like having a failover configuration
(talk to Paul McAllister about how useful that can be!). That way you
aren't going to have any hassles with the starter or generator.

No I don't. I think it came as part of something else which I did not need.
Anyway a very simple plastic valve that you unscrew to open.
I feel it was from a model shop to use for fuel lines to a model engine.
Yes, go to a model shop!
I shall have a think about where I got it from going across the Pacific
tonight.

The following details the official Usage Guidelines for the Europa-List.
You are encouraged to read it carefully, and to abide by the rules therein.
Failure to use the Europa-List in the manner described below may result
in the removal of the subscribers from the List.
Europa-List Policy Statement
The purpose of the Europa-List is to provide a forum of discussion for
things related to this particular discussion group. The List's goals
are to serve as an information resource to its members; to deliver
high-quality content; to provide moral support; to foster camaraderie
among its members; and to support safe operation. Reaching these goals
requires the participation and cooperation of each and every member of
the List. To this end, the following guidelines have been established:
- Please keep all posts related to the List at some level. Do not submit
posts concerning computer viruses, urban legends, random humor, long
lost buddies' phone numbers, etc. etc.
- THINK carefully before you write. Ask yourself if your post will be
relevant to everyone. If you have to wonder about that, DON'T send it.
- Remember that your post will be included for posterity in an archive
