My thanks to all those that helped by manning the Europa Stand and Composite
demonstrations area at Flying for Fun last weekend.
The factory were very appreciative of your efforts as was Cliff Piper who
co-ordinates all the activities in the Home build Tent.
This year we did fewer epoxy demonstrations due mainly to the conducted
tours for children. It seemed wise not to have items being made, and wet
epoxy about, when the groups arrived every few minutes. If we have the
tours next year then the answer may be to have more helpers on the stand
during this period.
I still have a couple of ready made throttle boxes available if anyone want
to avoid making their own. Offers over GBP 10.00 (proceeds to Club funds)
will be considered.
If anyone has, or has seen, an F23 (Fuel inlet cover moulding) which has
been cut lengthways please let me know. This item, belonging to a member,
was there to be modified and disappeared during the show. At GBP 45.00,
this is an expensive item to have disappear and the owner would greatly
appreciate its return.

Hi All,
The FlightCrafts folks recommended an easy approach to the fairing gap. At
least it is less dicey
than heating the fairing and fuselage to beyond Tg.
I was sent to the local Home Depot to find insulating foam tape which
neatly
fills the gap, albeit with a somewhat porous surface. The open foam
surface does
not seem to impact my cruise speed very much at about 135kts at 22 inches

Hi All,
Is anyone ready to share a power performance table for the constant speed
prop- Rotax combinations out there?
I am looking for the kind of table which includes RPM, MP, fuel Flow,
KIAS, TAS at different throttle settings and different density altitudes.
I have not yet been able to do this for 224XS because my Floscan sensor
does not seem to be detected by my BlueMountain and I am awaiting
a different instrument.

I have not been following this subject so forgive me if the following
has already been suggested.
An alternative way of sealing wing fairings can be very neatly achieved
using a hockey stick shaped rubber trim supplied by Wicks. This is glued
to the inboard side of the fairing with the foot of the hockey stick
overhanging the edge. This solution should be both attractive and
durable.
As older Europas like mine had greater variations in fuselage mouldings
it was often easier to get a better fairing by using foam and wet layup
to create a perfectly shaped fairing for the individual aircraft as
described in earlier versions of the manual.

Anyone ever see yellow powdery stuff that looks like corrosion, with some sort
of green
stuff that looks like mold on top of the yellow, on the front part of crankcase
and
cylinders of a new still in crate Rotax 914?
What is good way to remove it?
Anything recommended to put on motor to prevent this?
I can send a pic.
Thx.

Subject: | Evans coolant .9 bar cap? |
--> Europa-List message posted by: "Ronald J. Parigoris" <rparigor@suffolk.lib.ny.us>
After reading on Evans site, I gave them a call about the radiator cap. I have
a 1.2 bar
cap, and Evans said to not use it, the max. upper limit, use the .9 bar cap.
I never read this in any Rotax instructions, Lockwood is looking into.
Anyone out there flying with a 1.2 bar cap?
Thx.
Ron Parigoris
BTW got to the bottom of the makeup of their coolant:
NPG is all Propylene Glycol, and can be used on race tracks that ban ethylene Glycol
NPG+ is a blend of Ethylene Glycol and Propylene Glycol with some proprietary additions. The
can of NPG+ says on the label that it is Ethylene Glycol based
Rotax says in an emergency you can add Propylene Glycol but need to change it in
15 days.
Evans said in an emergency, you can if there is at least 50% remaining NPG+ either
propylene Glycol (hard to find) or Ethylene Glycol. Best to drain/flush with prep
fluid as
soon as you can and refill with NPG+.
Evans said if there is more than 50% gone, then drain it all out and fill with
a 50/50 mix.
I would follow rotax max. temperatures that will be less than with Evans, watch
what cap
you have as the .9 will allow less heat compared to the 1.2. When you get home,
drain and
fill with water and run engine. Drain water and fill with prep fluid, Prep fluid
is heavier
than water/antifreeze so you can get rid of undesirable water/antifreeze from high
point
before you drain it.
I talked with rotax service center, and will follow fill and drain new motor with
prep
fluid to be certain.

UK forecast is looking promising for the weekend.
Anyone up for a DOTH to Lundy?
The Devon Strut haas published some subsidiary information as follows:
"This Sunday 10th July is our Annual Fly In to Lundy Island.
There are some updates, the strip will be cut this week, marker stones now
extend back to the threshold on the eastern approach, the threshold is
marked, Booking in and landing charges will be made up beside the strip,
10.00 for Lundy and 3.50 for National Trust, lunch is available at The
Tavern, two small flags will mark the runway on the rise to assist lining up
for departure. Please contact Pete White 07774017704 or Terry Wilson

Duncan,
I was thinking of doing a midweek (Monday or Tuesday) to North Coates. Since
this is likely to be limited to those of a slightly more mature age group
than yourself, is it likely to conflict?

Hi Ira,
I placed the same question on this forum last year, but there was little
responce. After I have figured out the data from my bird I'll post it for
general use. what I did for the time being is using a copy of page 10-3,
page 10-4 and page 10-5 of your Rotax 914 manual at the rear of your
Checklist. That will help a lot.
In the future I'll install a fuel flow indicator!

Hi Brian,
North Coates is better on a Wednesday as there will be people around as it
is a club maintenance day, otherwise a weekend is good. Unfortunately I cannot
be there this week as I have to work away but can be there at a weekend. Club
website is on _Http://www.northcoatesflyingclub.co.uk_
(http://www.northcoatesflyingclub.co.uk) for more information on airfield and procedures during
the week. There is Donna Nook bombing range 800 metres to the south of the
runway which makes life interesting sometimes

Nigel,
You said:-
> As older Europas like mine had greater variations in fuselage

Can this statement be construed as to mean the earlier fuselages were
made in different moulds ? I have looked for a logical explanation why
my fuselage halves were not a good combination while Tony Renshaw's fit
together beautifully. Since he is using the fuselage cradle I made up,
I have always wondered where I could have gone wrong so I'm hoping this
might explain.
Regards
Kingsley

Rotax 914
We are about to replace our 50/50 coolant with Evans NPG+.
I would love to know if we need to replace the cap up top.
Also, our EIS has a wire pair for coolant temps, I have the ring and the
temp sensor, so we are hooking it up
this weekend. Anybody else think this is important data to have from
the engine?
Cylinder head temps are always good, but our oil temps are still higher
then I like.
Eample: OAT 97F, 900ft Climb, Oil Temp hits 266F in just a few minutes.
Of course as soon
as I level out the temps begin to fall. We even lowered the Oil cooler
(mod) to help with air flow, as well as
we added a new air channel to direct more fresh air to the oil cooler.
It helped ALOT!
