It will apparantly hit the engine mount. Nigel Charles is just converting his aeroplane to an XS front end to get round the problem. I had to remove the oil filter and some of the locallised wiring but that was all. The only issue that I was warned about (thank you William Mills) was that the new motors have the ability to be split into 2 or 3 parts if you are not careful so I kept the nuts in place until in situ and then withdrew one bolt at a time until the nut was back in place and then repeated for the 2nd bolt. I hope this makes sense but certainly it took no more than a couple of hours on my own. Note that neither are fuel resistant (need a "DF" for that). After setting everything carefully up, the manual says that the legs spread out 36.75 inch to each side at FL70 and the height should be 413 mm but might be higher up to 19mm . My problem is that I would have to lower the fuselage by about 10mm in order to have the socket flanges butting to the fuselage. Just wondering what other builders experienced here. Brian Skelly's pictures on Europaowners.org shows the socket flanges butting neatly to the fuselage. Thanks in advance Michael Grass A266 Tri Gear Detroit, Mi ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 06:32:54 PM PST US From: "Jim Butcher" Subject: Europa-List: Flap Adjustment (Mono) --> Europa-List message posted by: "Jim Butcher" We are just completing our preflight checklists on our Monowheel XS. We measure the required 27 deg of flap movement, but with the wings rigged and gear and flaps retracted, the flaps are not aligned with the ailerons (with ailerons aligned neutral with the wing tip). I put the wings on the bench off the airframe and noted the same situation. The flaps hang down about 2 deg. I notice that the nylon outrigger is touching the bottom of the flap hinge, FL3. Previously before fitting the nylon rod, the flaps retracted much further. I filed a little off FL3 and things are improved but still need to move up a little more. Anyone else had this problem? Is a little flap aileron misalignment a problem? Would it be permissible to take a little material off the nylon rod? Thanks Jim & Heather Butcher A185 N241BW To the airport this week!! ________________________________ Message 6 _____________________________________ Time: 07:34:09 PM PST US From: EuropaXSA276@aol.com Subject: Re: Europa-List: Tri gear legs to short? --> Europa-List message posted by: EuropaXSA276@aol.com Hi Michael: In fact I just set my legs today and posted those photos just hours ago. Things to check are your levels. First Is the floor level? Mine was not. I had to put 2 bathroom tile on one end of my straight edge. Is the roll level when taken at the elevator torque tube? The pitch level should be taken at the door jamb area. Draw a line between the centers of the socket holes on the belly. Measure where that line intersects the centerline down to the floor. Should be 16.25. Mine is about 1/16 higher. While doing the checks make sure your front and back plumb bobs are centered in the CL line you have marked on the floor. I spent 4 hours fitting and setting all this up. How wide is the gap that you have and is it all the way around the plate? Are the gaps the same on both sides? Are the socket holes on the fuselage opened wide enough and there is no binding of the tube? Is your axle clamped flat against the angle iron? If it is not that will cause a larger gap to the rear of the plate. I did have a 1/8 gap to the rear of each socket base plate. As the manual reads I slightly bent those areas up to meet the belly. I'm thinking after 4 hours set up that it was close enough! I slathered on some 420 and called it a day... Hope some of this helps. ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 07:55:56 PM PST US From: EuropaXSA276@aol.com Subject: Re: Europa-List: Tri gear legs to short? --> Europa-List message posted by: EuropaXSA276@aol.com One last thing..... If the gap is equal on both sockets then Recheck your measurements to station 70. Brian Skelly Texas Europa # A276 TriGear See My build photos at: http://www.europaowners.org/BrianS
