Dear All
I found (actually Tony Kay found - thanks Tony) a serious crack in the
front left cylinder exhaust downpipe (Rotax 912S with standard Europa
exhaust system). The crack was where the pipe is welded to the sealing
ring which mates with the cylinder head. It had gone all the way round
and caused the ring and pipe to separate completely, although you
couldn't tell by looking as the pipe was still held in the right
position by its attachment to the muffler.
Has anyone else seen similar cracks?

Hi Willie,
We had the #1 cylinder (front right) header pipe break off at the same
place a few months ago, during a hard start. We had it re-welded and it
seems to be holding. It looked like the original weld was not good to
start with, so we expect it to be fine now that it has been properly
welded.

Gidday,
I am keen to learn more about the installation of a EJ22 ??, the big block
Subaru engine in a Europa. I have heard someone has done it and I'd like to
find out more if anyone knows the owners whereabouts, both physically and
electronically. Thanks in anticipation.

Hey Tony!
Greetings from your Soob mate in Colorado!
Still Soobing nicely here but plan on adding MPFI to my EA81. Should bring
the power up
to about 140 or so.
Here is a link to Lynn Ellsners Turbo EJ22 direct drive Europa. I've
never talked to him
and he might have even sold the plane, I'm not sure. I wish I could find
more info about
the plane myself.
