--> Europa-List message posted by: "G-IANI" <g-iani@ntlworld.com> Gary 1) I believe someone has mounted the ACS master cylinder (Part No A315) to feed the foot brake cylinders. Check this with Andy Draper. The filler plugs in the brake cylinders are (as far as I can measure) 10mm x 1mm. They are not 1/8 NPT. 2) The factory finger brakes levers are 30mm pivot to cylinder and 185mm pivot to handle. Note it is the ratio which is important. 3) If there is the factory would like to know about it. Andy has searched for alternative but with no result. 4) The parking brake valve the factory uses (and everybody else as far as I know) is the Matco (ACS part no 06-17200) Ian Rickard #505 G-IANI XS Trigear Europa Club Mods Rep (Trigear) e-mail mods@europaclub.org.uk or direct g-iani@ntlworld.com

--> Europa-List message posted by: "paul atkinson" <paul@theatkinsons.demon.co.uk> Hi I am making up a small toolkit to go in my machine. So far it includes a set of spanners for AN hardware, battery terminals and spark plugs, a couple of screwdrivers, a crowbar and a 10lb hammer. I may have second thoughts about the last two items. I would welcome any other suggestions for useful items, particularly the ones you wished you had had when everthing has turned to worms, it is getting dark and everyone has gone home. Thanks in advance Paul

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Jeremy Davey" <EuropaFlyer_3@msn.com> Rather than all the screwdrivers, what about a Leatherman with the tools attachment? Lighter AND more useful! I'd suggest leaving the 10lb hammer behind - most places you can find something you can use for hitting things in an emergency. Ditto the crowbar. But add a small LED torch. --> Europa-List message posted by: "Richard Iddon" <riddon@sent.com> Paul, Nigel Charles wrote a very good article on just this subject March 2004 in the Europa Flyer. I will email a copy to you, just in case you haven't got access to this edition. I have based my travelling kit on his recommendations and it includes:- a screwdriver with various straight, cross head and allen key type bits which fit inside the handle, Leatherman type tool with knife, pliers, wire cutters etc, a small but good quality adjustable spanner, plug spanner, tyre pressure gauge, mini multimeter, locking wire, loctite, cable ties, small selection of nuts, bolts washers etc. All the above go in a small tool roll. I also take a spare innertube, length of fuel hose, oil and some electric cable on longer trips. Richard Iddon G-RIXS Hi I am making up a small toolkit to go in my machine. Do not archive ----- Original Message ----- From: William Mills Subject: Last of the Summer Wine - 8th to 11th Sept Please let me know (off forum) if you are intending to join in this year's "Last of the Summer Wine" trip to France. No set plans for a route as we try to follow the good weather and keep it flexible. However, if you have any requests for particular places to visit, please let me know. We try to find airfields not too remote from the town / city so as to minimise travelling cost. Best wishes, William

--> Europa-List message posted by: "William Mills" <combined.merchants@virgin.net> Hi Paul, Further to Richard's list I should like to suggest a puncture repair kit and if you have a mono wheel, you will need some form of jacking the A/C up. I have a wooden wedge that locates on the front of the under carriage fork by steel dowels. I assume that a car type jack can be found at most airfields. --> Europa-List message posted by: "Terry Seaver (terrys)" <terrys@cisco.com> Hi Paul, You don't say what kind of plane. If you have a mono-wheel, you might consider taking a jacking block on trips, in case you get a flat tire. The block allows you to use (borrow) a standard hydraulic floor jack on the gear leg. There is one described on my web site at; http://terryseaver.home.comcast.net/N135TD_mods.htm Look for 'Mono-wheel jacking block'. Also, we have a 912S, and normally burn unleaded auto fuel. On the longer trips we have to use 100LL, which fouls the plugs in as little at 25 hours. Twice we have been unable to start the engine, far from home, and had no spare plugs in the plane. On one occasion a fellow Europa builder sold us a set, on the other occasion, I scraped the lead off the plugs with my pocket knife and managed to get one more start out of them. Since then we carry a spare set of plugs at all times. --> Europa-List message posted by: "Kingsley Hurst" <hurstkr@growzone.com.au> Jeremy said: But add a small LED torch. A few months ago, my wife gave me a torch as a little present. It is a LED torch and has no batteries. A handle on the back of it is folded out and after winding it 50 to 100 revolutions, it will work for a claimed 30 minutes. Each time I use it I usually just give it a few turns and I haven't run it flat yet. Even after standing for a fortnight or so, it retains its charge not that it would really matter if it didn't. If you get as frustrated as I do every time I pick up a battery torch and it is almost flat, you might find this little item worthwhile. Oh! it also has a little compass on it as well and it actually points North. I haven't weighed it, but I'm sure it is lighter than a torch especially if the torch is fitted with alkaline batteries. Yes, of course it is made in China. I now have two items ready for my 'grab bag', the torch and a signalling mirror. At the rate I am building, I will have plenty of time to get the rest ! ! --> Europa-List message posted by: "William Daniell" <wdaniell@etb.net.co> Sven For what it is worth, I had a similar problem with my zenith (which I am flying while building my Europa). I took all the back padding out of my Zenith and also started flying barefoot (which took away the thickness of the shoe sole). This changed the relationship back/legs/feet and now my back does not hurt any more...so my advice is to start with the shape of the seat and once this is right go to the padding. --> Europa-List message posted by: "Cliff Shaw" <flyinggpa@comcast.net> Sven I built my seat cushions with thermal foam. It molds to your body when warmed. I can sit in my plane for hours. I got mine at Aircraft Spruce. I just took a quick look in the catalog, It is in "seat foam" page 37. It is make up of there layers, one inch each. Pink, green, and blue. There levels of fermness. I don't think there is any thing better. Take a look. Cliff Shaw 1041 Euclid ave. --> Europa-List message posted by: "William Mills" <combined.merchants@virgin.net> Hi Sven, I have made a pair of light-weight ply seat backs to support the lower half of the back cushion. The ply seat back is supported by triangles and fills the lower half (below the spar), so that the angle of the upper half is projected downwards to meet the seat pan. I have sat with that arrangement for over 4 hrs flying and find it very comfortable. Hope that helps, William ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sven den Boer" <svendenboer@quicknet.nl> Subject: Europa-List: Seating > --> Europa-List message posted by: "Sven den Boer" > <svendenboer@quicknet.nl> > > Dear Europaphiles, > > A problem with seating occurs to me. > After an hour or so my back feels like broken. > Current cushions are filled with ordinary polyetherfoam types of 5/6 cm > thicknes. > > Any designs and/or material tips/vendors available to help me out ? > > Best Regards, > > Sven den Boer > The Netherlands > > >
