--> Europa-List message posted by: "Richard Iddon" <riddon@sent.com> Thanks Mike, a useful article. As you say, officially it is only for maritime use. However, I phoned the maritime base for registering the unit and they were quite happy for me to register it with them. Also I note now that Adams aviation are offering the same unit (for 446 pounds, I paid 299 at a chandelery). They tell me that for aviation the unit should be registered with RAF Kinloss so I have sent them an email and am awaiting their reply. As the unit is registered to a person rather than a specific vessel I can't see any problem. I shall take it with me and will certainly not hesitate to deploy it if the need arises, whether on land or water. I can always argue the toss later. Richard Iddon G-RIXS --> Europa-List message posted by: "Mike Parkin" <mikenjulie.parkin@btinternet.com> Richard, I found this page - <http://www.seathree.demon.co.uk/plb/plb-3.html> which may be of interest. The pertinent part is the following extract I think. UK. 406 PLBs are legal in the UK - but only for maritime use.

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Richard Iddon" <riddon@sent.com> It is possible I may have a spare seat for the Swiss trip. I am planning to leave Blackpool Wednesday am and overnight in Guernsey before joining up with the rest of the team in Poitiers for lunch on Thursday. Please contact me off forum if interested. The weather man is saying that it should be good. It looks poor thereafter, with a suggestion that it could be a week or so before settled weather returns. I await your suggestions. Cheers. Bryan. --> Europa-List message posted by: "Duncan McFadyean" <ami@mcfadyean.freeserve.co.uk> I suppose the document at http://www.cospas-sarsat.org/DocumentsGSeries/g5oct30.pdf describes the different protocols betwix marine and aviation; I couldn't be bothered to read it all, but couldn't see a good practical reason that would preclude a boat owner using his beacon in a small light aircraft! Although SAR may have difficulty in believing there was a distressed yacht in Switzerland. They are attached using standard anchor nuts and AN screws, like those provided with the kit. Works just fine... Could i use camloc type hardware for it? Jos, Are you aware of the Europa Club Mod for holding the Panel in ? If not, I suggest you have a look at it because it is an excellent idea IMO. Makes it very easy to install and remove. (when there is no wires connected that is !) Regards Kingsley in Oz.

If not, | I suggest you have a look at it because it is an excellent idea IMO. | Makes it very easy to install and remove. (when there is no wires | connected that is !) Regards Kingsley in Oz. Jos, I second the notion. The mod puts the bolts fixed to the inside of the panel forward through the firewall with the mounting nuts in the engine compartment. This allows the whole panel to slide back and (thanks to Nigel) is a real advantage for maintenance or major revision. Ferg A064

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Cliff Shaw" <flyinggpa@comcast.net> Jos I bonded my panel (custom made) in and then make each side from plate removable. All the wiring is going through round cannon plugs. I can take the pilot side out in 7 minutes, you can time me ! I like it this way. There has been several time I needed to do work in behind, and out it came. Easy. I used #6 screws with the nutplates bonded in to fasten it in. Cliff Shaw 1041 Euclid ave.
