The Blue mountain autopilots were only $3.5k for the cables and servos,
the software
already included in the CPU box. I'd install them again for their
potential utility, not
because a 100 hamburger run requires it. Some homebuilt A/C are fussier
to fly, Glasairs
come to mind where an AP would be more valuable.
I also have aileron trim which is more useful on a daily basis to
compensate for pass/no pass
W&B. After Andy fixed my rudder trim tab at SnF this year, the plane is
totally hands and feet off,
if you like, at cruise.

Vance is certainly worth talking to, very experienced. However, I suspect
his sight gauges are not suitable with Mogas. I once tested one and it
crazed, that was many years ago though, so it is worth asking

All,
When I met with John Hurst and Cliff Shaw at Arlington, John was working for
Liberty Aircraft. I'm looking at his business card right now. And he was
working with a very attractive blonde gal that kept the planes real clean. Has
that changed?

As posted in my e-mail yesterday, John Hurst is now working for Lockwood at the
number listed in my post. (863-655-5100). I know this to be true as I phoned
him just prior to making my post to the group. He informed me that he left Gulf
Coast Avionics and is now working directly for Phil Lockwood. Just wanted
to get the record straight.

True, but oil cooling of valves is less efficient than water (912!) and with
no airflow over the oil cooler there is no cooling at all. In fact the
workshop manual for the R1100 prohibits idling of the engine in the workshop
for more than 5 minutes without forced cooling.
Weight is much closer to (or exceeds) 90 kg when an engine mount and
exhaust is added. Then there's the bigger or second battery, additional (and
less efficient) cowl ducting, two fuel pumps etc.
A promising engine for some applications, but not the Europa and I have to
say reluctantly (having been there) that the 912 does it better than the
BMW.
