Thanks for the seals which are in and I will get round to bleeding the
system when I finish today's paperwork.
One thought which occurred to me is that from your note you made no
reference to the parking brake. Having talked to Andy I gather he has had
the samples seals you sent him on his desk for a long time. He has now
promised to get something out for the next TechTalk. One things which, I
think, put Andy off from following up your seals and a change to DOT3 was
that he had no suitable seals for the Matco parking brake. Why he did not
follow up the seals with DOT5 I do not know. Apparently he also has some
Matco master cylinders he is testing as a replacement for the Jamar
cylinder. Even if he decides to change to the Matco cylinders as the finger
brake offering he recognises the need for a solution for all those who have
the Jamar cylinder.

The seals for the parking brake and callipers are readily available, I have
six complete sets sitting on the shelf, They are just O rings If you
specified EPDM rubber for DOT 3/4/5.1 Or Buna n nitrile for Silicone DOT5,
And Matco doesn't mind Automatic transmission fluid being used as well.
Sorry for the delay in responding. we have been on holiday break from
12/23/03-1/5/04.
DOT 5 will work fine but DOT5.1 contains glycol and is not compatible
with the seals. Petroleum based automatic transmission fluid (ATF) will
also work fine.

MATCO mfg
As a matter of interest DOT 4/5.1 is preferred to DOT3, The cost different
is pennies (cents) Andy has the company name that will supply both types
of seals EPDM or BUNA,
If any body is interested i have about 40 Pairs of BUNA O rings for the
Trike brake callipers Surplus to requirements (Don't ask it a long story!!)
No charge to any takers

I have found and corrected my turbo problem thanks to the help from those on
this list (wiring mistake I made, oops!).
The Rotax documentation actually is quite good. Be sure you have the
Operators Manual, Install Manual and Maintenance Manual. There also is a
complete list of all documentation specific to each engine which includes
the above and Service Bulletins, Service Instructions and Service Letters.
They also will put you on automatic notification of new Service information
(just got one this morning).
The manuals do state how the turbo is to operate on power up but I KNEW that
something was wrong with mine since there COULD NOT be a wiring mistake!!
Finally visited another 914 owner and hooked up the monitor program and saw
how it's supposed to be at power up. Compared that to mine and found the
problem. Its true the Rotax documentation doesn't have screen shots of the
monitor in specific situations. That would be useful.
BTW there is a Service Bulletin about sticking waste gates and how to clean
them (SI-914-003). And there are instructions in the Install Manual and the
Maintenance Manual about adjusting the waste gate. There are no specific
preflight instructions other than watching the lights and listening to the
sound of the servo motor, but if you don't have lead problems nothing more
should be required.

Jim, Thank you very much for the excellent information. I do have some of
the documentation you list but not all - obviously the missing bits are the
ones I need.

Subject: | Arplast Prop.PV50 |
--> Europa-List message posted by: BEBERRY@aol.com
Having spent an exhausting 9 days installing this prop, I can still not find
out why it does not work. I will describe what I have done and see if
anyone can point out where I might have gone wrong..please!
1. Fixed operating mechanism to top of engine block behind vacuum pump.
Checked direct connection of bared end of wire rod to contact on rear of rear
of
motor. Wire rod heat shrink sheathed
2. Took 5 coloured wires through firewall and connected to identical wires
from PV50 box.
3. Took red wire from PV50 box to +ve terminal and black to earth.
4. connected fixed wires from PV50 box to......
a). Indicator mounted on fascia
b). LED
c). Operating switch
All continuities have been checked at least 5 times. Whole installation has
been similarly taken apart and refixed. Prop is mounted and is working (9v
battery test on motor terminals).
The PV50 box has been back to the suppliers and tested and returned.
No indications or lights show.,. The prop does not move through pitch.
Help please!
Patrick

The solvent we used is "Berryman Chem tool". No idea where we got it.
Auto parts store I am guessing.
It worked great. And have had no problems since we flushed it with the
Chem tool.

If it is not too cheeky can I have an updated version of the CD as my
version is temperamental at best and does not access files at worse (eg the
Parts cross ref).
