Bonjour
I have been flying a CAP NSI 140 for 200h now. I am very happy with that efficient
and light propeller especially when taking off on alti surface or altiport.
I worry about bad news read here on the forum concerning the future of NSI. I understand
they have been sold.To what company?
As anyone recent information about NSI and the most important:can we always order
spare parts?
Thanks for help

Roger,
have you fitted the PV50 onto 912 or 912S with air shroud? I am looking for feedback
from someone who has installed
the potentiometer with cutting out the air shroud around the 912S.
Thanks

Patrick,
I have an Arplast PV50 which was fitted at build before the constant
speed version was available. I am very happy with it and feel no compulsion
to change to the CS version. I get bored if I having nothing to play with!

There are those among us who remember the Anson. With a total failure of
undercarriage to lock down, it could be landed on those bits of the wheels
which protruded in much the same way as the monowheel. So a stop in the
appropriate place would seem to be a good idea.

Sorry about that, hit the send button too soon.
I'm looking for recommendations on a handheld GPS unit, under $500 or so, new or
recent used model, to go into our recently purchased 1946 Cessna 140.
No, we haven't abandoned the Europa project, but this opportunity popped into our
lap, and since I need tailwheel time and my wonderful wife needs her ticket,
it's a great way to get some time.
Now that our son is almost 3 (which is where all our time has gone for the last
several years), we can start putting more time into the Europa and 'git 'er done'.
The Cessna will be a nice diversion after a day of building to get the
cobwebs out of the mind.
Fortunately, the airport we are based at (Poplar Grove, IL - C77) has both a J-3
Cub and a 140 available for instruction and rental, so can get my signoff and
10 hours of dual that my insurance requires. Then I need 10 hours solo before
I carry pax.
As an aside, I took my first tailwheel lesson this past weekend in the J-3. I
must say it was the most fun I've had with clothes on in a long time. Warm day,
windows open, grass strip. That's the way it's supposed to be. I was pretty
nervous about flying a taildragger, but it was really pretty easy. The Cub
made me look good, though. With the instructor up front blocking the few gages
there are, one quickly learns just to listen and feel the plane.
Anyway, thanks for any info on the GPS units!

Chris,
I recently bought a Lowrance Airmap 500 for $399. This is my first GPS and
the learning
curve went pretty quickly. It has lots of features including a data base
for road maps. This
is extra software that comes with the unit. It gets loaded onto a PC and
then the areas you
are interested in get put onto the GPS by the user. I have little need for
this function so I have
not used it yet.
The one thing it does not have is an overlay of the HSI on the map. Perhaps
the other units
in this price range don't either. I know the AnyWhere map does.
So far I am pleased with the GPS.

Do you fly to the altiports in the French alps with your Europa

Heres a free Anywhere Map type moving map software that can run on
Windows CE/Mobile or higher, also Windows 2000, NT, or XP.
They ask for a donation but is not required. I just downloaded it this
morning so haven't tried it yet but I hear it works very well. You still
have to provide the PDA and GPS of course!

Hello to the list! I have been monitoring the postings for some time
while finishing N7854M (A032) and completing the 40 hours of restricted
flight. That done, the plane is painted and now is based out of Palo
Alto, CA. The plane is a classic mono-wheel with a Jabiru 3300 engine,
AP332 propeller, and is a real hoot to fly. A story you might enjoy:
I spent last night at my cabin and flew back this morning in the Europa.
It was only the 3rd time to have landed at Palo Alto, and the ATC must
not have known too much about the plane. As I crossed the numbers, the
tower radioed me "Experimental 7854M - do a go-around. You only have
one gear down!" I calmly replied - "there is only one main gear - the
wings have outriggers." Silence then "Oh, never-mind. Cleared to
land."

Hi Jean
I also have the NSI prop. My friend David Hunter, who was the nearest
thing NSI had to an agent in the UK, tried to telephone them this
evening. They are not answering the telephone, but the answer machine
message has changed in the last couple of weeks since he last tried.
David will try again tomorrow if he has any luck I will let you know.

Hi all,
I have the same story to tell from this weekend. I diverted into Champaign
IL to avoid wide spread thunderstorms and on short final tower called
N378PJ, we can't see your gear, go around.....
BTW, I am using Airgator WX ( http://www.airgator.com/ ) on a Toshiba PDA
and it is turning out to be a terrific strategic tool for weather avoidance.
Based off it was telling me I put myself on the ground and it was the right
call. It also let me safely navigate the last 150 nm after a 3 hour
wait..... without it I would have stayed over night.
