--> Europa-List message posted by: BEBERRY@aol.com A while ago I aquired a monowheel trailer. The previous owner had the car registration painted on an ali sheet above the light cluster. Apparently this is no longer legal. A motorcycle rear plate would fit there so I tried to buy one form Halfords, but they and others will not supply one for a registration assigned to a car. More than their job's worth apparently................ Not a problem with number plates for your trailer. Take a template off your car and paint your own. If your name is not Michaelangelo you can make up letter stencils form your car and/or your friends - bound to find all the right letters close by. Cost - practically nil. Patrick

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Jim Butcher" <europa@triton.net> Ferg, Yeah, you will get bloody fitting it and discover a few new words. What we did is make the firewall of cardboard from cereal boxes. You can make a good pattern from this. Then transfer it to the stainless steel. Practice installing the cardboard firewall first to learn how it has to be bent and wiggled while safeguarding the Queen's English and avoid cuting your hands! Seems like the tab at the bottom corner had to be bent after install. Seal all the seams with fireproof sealant (we used the construction stuff from Home Depot). Getting to the seams with the engine installed is even more difficult than fitting the firewall. Jim & Heather Butcher A185 N241BW 2.9 hrs

If the inspection fees had not already added over $1,000 to the cost of my project, I would not be quite as peeved. Dave C-FBZI Do not archive

It was just tagged by the inspector as a point of interest, but of course having got into the system it caused a block when the next guy in line came to sign off on the project. I think that if there had been a long list of snags, everyone would have been happy and the firewall and carb heat would have sailed through un-noticed. The problem really is that there is very little knowledge of composites or of Rotaxes in Canada. The throttle and choke lines come through a small sheathed gap at the top corner of Graham's firewall. I split the top section of this in half and added a stainless backing plate with anchor nuts, to make it easier to install and remove. Dave C-FBZI Hello chaps, Graham isn't sure either :-[ I just sold my house and super shed. No future house in sight yet,we'll probable rent for a bit till the dust settles. I will be able to make a few in the next few weeks but then I suspect chaos will descend around me and my Long suffering Long EZ. I'll see if I can get some pix on the Club site. BTW Dave, can you get the top half off without removing the engine, if so how did you arrange it? Graham

I cut the top section down the centre, riveted about a 2" wide strip of stainless steel on one side ( a piece with no blood on it ), and added 3 anchor nuts on the other side. Fits together very snugly and I don't think its integrity has been compromised. I seem to have resolved my problem with the fuselage firewall material, but with regard to the Skydrive carb heat, the hole seems to be getting deeper. I might take some of the stainless off the workshop wall and slash my wrists in the near future. If there are any Europas in Alberta or B.C. flying and using Skydrive ( or flying without carb heat ), I would very much like to hear from them, or from others who might be able to put me in contact with them. Subject: Stainless steel Firewall
--> Europa-List message posted by: "Fergus Kyle" <VE3LVO@rac.ca> hello again, I reread chapter 33 in my mono classic manual. In there, (and I'm not finding fault) one finds remarks alluding to caulking up the cracks to prevent noxious fumes from entering the cockpit. Come on. There are holes big enough to slip ferrets in - and if there aren't, then it has to be the ugliest firewall in the Big 8. My defence (should a minute crack develop twixt me and engine fire) will be that - as previously shared, I intend to pressurise the inhabited area by selected temperature air, and control the pressure by judicious outflow control just like the big guys do. Two things - if you have a hermetically-sealed firewall OR you have found an argument that works with your ultimate inspector. could you share it with me (us)? Cheers, Ferg PS: Many thanks for the spate of replies on the topic. I am continuing to play with the stainless sheets in the hope of a SS revision incorporating SS hinges to permit target installation. Bulk purchase of plaster strips ahead.

I've tried Mac: AOL, Internet Explorer, Safari, dial up, cable Windows. 95, XP, Internet Explorer, AOL, dial up, and cable. I've check the server and the downloads (files sent) all seem complete. I'd did have one that had a blank Web page when the download was completed, but the PDF was in my documents folder. Do a search for the downloaded document on your computer, maybe it's just hiding. ( it's happen before ) Also check to see if you have the latest revs of your browser and Adobe reader. I changed one setting on the server, I still have the same results, a complete download. But lets see if that helps any one who's having problems. If your still having problems please post right on EuropaOwners so we can keep the computer "noise" off the Matronics Europa-List.
