      To whom it may concern...

In the midst of fitting a speed kit I had been told that it was a bas****.
      They were not wrong!

People have found their own solutions to the problems posed - mainly because
the instructions are wrong, impossible to carry out , lacking in dimensions
      and generally unclear.

How to get the nuts on the back of the main wheel bracket mounts? I
Araldited the nuts into suitably bent open ended spanners and held them in place

      until the bolt 'bit'

How to find where to drill the main wheel fairings to fit to the brackets?
I soldered a car light bulb to a length of twin flex and clipped the other
end to the a/c battery. The flex + bulb end was then taped to a stick (pencil

did the job) so that it could be moved around inside the fairing until the
holes in the brackets showed through and could be marked on the outside.

Maybe everyone else has thought of their own ways but I thought I would add
      my bit.

      Good day All,

I was just preparing myself for the task of filling and sanding. I have heard
so much about the hassle of it, but I figure I have to start sooner or later.
I am using Superfil for the ailerons since they are the smallest to start
with. But along with my kit came several quart (2 liter) size bags of Q Cell.
What have people been using this for?
      Just wondering.

Did you confirm the wastegate lever is actually cycled, and/or the servo
wheel is moving when the servo cycles ?
Or do you have the impression the servo is only *trying* to move ?
In our aeroplane it makes some very slight noise, but it sounds like a
*normal* servo noise, not as if it was binding or something.

      Mike,

I've been using Superfil. It cost a lot more, but it's much easier to work
with. The other filler is hard to mix consistently. It does work though,
as I have used it in a few places on the smaller parts. I might have to use
it on the remainder of the plane as I have gone through almost two 3gal.
kits of the Superfil since I have a big wing to fill that you XS builders
      don't.

You're lucky. You only got two SMALL bags. I've got a Classic and I
received a large 30gal. garbage bag full of the stuff.

Takes up space in the attic. ;-) Use the superfill, it's consistent batch
      to batch. Sands better too.

      Hi Mike,
I know based on what others have said that super-fill is easier to use
than Q-cell but I mixed the Q Cell up into the fluffy stuff and it
worked great. Your manuel tells how to do it. I found that doing a
little filling and sanding along the way of building breaks up the job
nicely. No since in waiting to the very end of the build to just do
nothing but sanding & filling. Keep your wet dry vac handy and keep
cleaning off the sand paper and the part your sanding. Use only quality
paper as the cheep stuff isn't worth the nothing. Mostly use a flat
sanding block as a sponge can be used for a few curves. Find someone in
your area that has sanded composites before because the advice will
      save you big time.
      Best Regards,

This fellow (Wayne Hicks) compiled a pretty good list of the "new" (and
arguably improved because the results are much lighter) methods for
making our glass airplanes look as smooth as... well... glass! Worth a
browse if you're preparing to fling yourself off the fill/sand/fill/sand
      cliff.

A quick look says that's usual, bigger microballons than
SuperFil uses, and a laminating resin. In my exp, it does
not feather well, and a laminating resin can
inappropriate -- to cure fully and quickly in sparse amount,
just like with the fluffy stuff. For me, the std balloons
do not sand as quickly as SuperFil, and can create the
pinhole problem, meaning getting rid of it with more weighty
primer than needed. Maybe just my jaded observations,
though. Me has a low tolerance level for problems I think I
could have avoided -- granted, with $$ though! :-)

      Hi,

I used the factory stuff on the stabilizer and fuselage, but Superfill for
the rest. I found the Superfill easier to work with, but at the end of the
day its the technique that you use that makes the job go easier.

Nev is an advocate of putting on way too much and sanding it back. This
avoids trying to feather in and waiting for drying time. I think he is
right..... its easier to put in too much and sand it back rather than fool
      around with multi coats.

      Paul

Thanks Mike and Paul for answering my servo question. You put my mind at
ease. What a great thing this Europa list is! Off to torque the propellor
      blades.

      Hi Gilles,

Yes the gate lever is moving and the wheele is moving. The noise I was
concerned with was after the cycle had occured. Mike and Paul had observed
likewise and hadn't had any probles is seems.

      All

I took some pictures of "Wile E Coyote" (N229WC) today. The weather was not very
nice, but at least it was not raining. Look in the Tri-Gear album at the
WEC album at the link in my signature.
