I was getting ready to start mounting my AK-450 ELT. I am
contemplating glassing in a flat plate just behind the baggage bulk
head but thought it may be hard to reach for testing and of course
other emergency reasons. Just curious to what others have done.
Thanks In Advance to anyone sharing there mount.

Jeff
Look on page 4 of my EruopaOwners web page (link below) to see what I did.
I put the ELT under the baggage bay and accusable through the port hatch. It is
not as convenient as I might want, but better than behind the "D" bulkhead. I
have three strobe power supplies there too, and the gas collator and electric
bust pump. (912S)

Jeff,
If you mount it behind the "D" window or even under the baggage bay, you had
better always carry a screwdriver to access it if needed. And hope you are in
a condition and have the time to use the screwdriver.
I mounted mine on top of the baggage bay behind the left-hand seat. Simply
flip the latch and take it with you.

Jeff,
I did the same, but on the starboard side right against the fuse. I like
simple solutions.

Thanks to all that responded to my ELT question. Behind the starboard
seat it is. Now can you tell me where you all mounted the antenna? I
should have put this one in the first question.
Thanks!!

Jeff,
I made a simple whip antenna that went in the back, against the D section.
It pretty well followed the line from the bottom of the D to the top section
of the fuselage. I can't remember the length, but its a pretty simple
calculation that I got out of the ARRL handbook.

Jeff,
Bob Archer Antenna I have, mounted on the inside/starboard/ 1 meter behind
'D' bulkhead/ of the fuselage. Secured to the fuselage with Velcros.
Works perfectly!!

Hi all,
For the last 30 or 40 hours I had the orange boost light come on at power up and
if I recycle the power it goes out. The manual doesn't give much of a clue,
has anyone had any experience with this? I assume if I can get a repeatable
failure that I can connect my laptop up and read the engine log to find out, but
until then I am guessing a bit.
Thanks, Paul

Some in Oz think it is better to have it on your person. To do this perhaps
yu would need a flying waistcoat that you always wear.

Kevin,
I have been flying in subzero conditions with my PH-JGW c/w 914 type engine and
do not need any form of heater in the cockpit. The engine temp. finds its way
into the cockpit one way or the other and its comfortable in winter. On the other
hand it can get too hot in summer.

Kevin,
I've copied a friend's set up, which works well on his 914 mono.
Brings air in from outside with SCAT tubing, over a "cuff" on the muffler,
with inlet and outlet, to warm the air up, then to an airbox ( from
aircraft spruce catalogue) and dumps the warm air through the top of the
firewall moulding, down on to the pilots feet, or out of the vents on the
top of the cowling, depending whether the airbox flap is up or down.
Easier to do on a 912S installation as I was able to use the inlet duct on
the right lower side of the bottom fairing, on a 914
would have to add an inlet duct.
My problem now is I may end up using this hot air for carb heat, unless I
can get an approval on my Skydrive system.

anyone any idea about the process involved in fitting a cockpit heater?
( G-ROOV is a turbo Rotax 914)
does this mod affect performance (added weight being a given)
thanks
