I know what you mean but mine is compounded by my excuses for laziness too! The one thing I can suggest is compiling a list of all outstanding tasks no matter how small and then checking them off as done. Go out with notepad and think through all the tasks from Prop to Tail and list them. Go one better and create a spreadsheet or list and then you can measure the progress against a target. My 120 tasks is nearer 25 now albeit 2 or 3 are still on the major side! Regards Gerry

I have just fitted out the whole of the interior with a superb grey very light material obtained from Tim Dews of Airborne Composites, Wing Farm, Longbridge Deverill, Wilts. Tel 01985 840981. (_tim@airbornecomposites.co.uk_ (mailto:tim@airbornecomposites.co.uk) .) Very easy to fit and should take only a day if you are any good with a stanley knife and pair of scissors, also cheap. Fixed with spray carpet glue and can be pealed off any time. Highly recommended. Tim is one of the best repairers of composite materials in the country and has experience of Europas. Ask Gerry Holland if you want a second opinion. Patrick (can send photo of mine if you wish.)

I have come across a couple of terminal boards that are designed to plug into perforated boards. The pins extend straight down from the terminal board approx. 5/8" (15mm) from it's underside. Does anyone see any problem with me drilling two series of seven small holes in a line and then backfilling with heat resistant sealer? I could then solder the connections on the engine side going to the oil temp and pressure, CHT's, EGT, ammeter, warning light, starter switch, etc. In order to remove the panel I would simply unscrew from the terminal boards. This would save from having to cut a large hole for a round bulkhead connector...not to mention the expense. Mike Duane A207A Redding, California XS Conventional Gear>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Hi All, I wanted to cut and route my CHT and EGT thru some cannon plugs at the firewall but I was told long ago that this would affect the accuracy of the readings if leads were cut. I since had planned to run those things thru a grommet with firestop material. Am I confused? Have others cut thiers with success? Subject: Re: Firewall Integrity
--> Europa-List message posted by: D Wysong <hdwysong@gmail.com> Hello Troy - Cutting the leads won't affect the accuracy but introducing new junctions of dissimilar metals will. Here's a great snip from the Aeroelectric list that addresses the issue: "I have posted at least two discussions about thermocouple wire and how it works - look at the archives. That said, here is the short story. Thermocouples work due to the Seebeck effect. That is, if you connect two wires made of dissimilar metals they will generate a voltage at the junction that is proportional to the temperature at the junction (and dependent on the types of metals). It is important to remember that it is ANY junction of dissimilar metals. This includes the junctions where the thermocouples are connected to whatever you are using to measure the temperature. The designers of these instruments always provide some way (internal to the instrument) of compensating for the voltage generated at this junction so the resultant temperature readout is that at the other end of the thermocouple wires. So... If we interpose another set of junctions in a length of thermocouple wire - such as a connector - that could cause problems or maybe not. I say could for two reasons. First, if the temperature at each additional junction is the same then the voltages generated will all cancel and you will still get the same result on the readout instrument as you would without the additional junctions. This is very likely the case if you pass the thermocouple wires through a hole in the firewall (using the techniques that Bob recommends for providing a fire resistant pass through) and use a connector wholly within the engine compartment since both ends of the connector will be in close proximity and at essentially the same temperature. If you use a "barrier" connector with one side mounted on the firewall and the other in the engine compartment, the situation is a little worse since the two sides are obviously at different temperatures. On the other hand if you use some sort of heat insulation around one or both sides of the connector, since the pins are intimately connected (both electrically and thermally), they are likely to be very close in temperature and will cause a relatively small error. Second, you are trying to measure relatively high temperatures and a small temperature difference error generated by the connector may be irrelevant to your actual usage. If you are using the EGT for leaning, the actual temperature is only vaguely important - the relative peaks are what you will look for. An error of 10 or 20 degrees would be immaterial in this case. With the CHT the numbers are lower but the errors are probably still not detrimental to your usage. <<snip>> Bottom line: If you are careful in what you do, you can use any connector you want with minimal if any errors. If you are not careful and end up with the two sides of the connector at significantly different temperatures you will get an error that is approximately the difference between the temperatures on the two sides of the connector." Good stuff. Subject: Close Out Flanges
--> Europa-List message posted by: "Jim Butcher" <europa@triton.net> We have started to work on our glider wings since the weather has stopped flight testing. The first step in constructing the airbrakes and the ailerons is to "attach the pre-cut close-out flange end pieces" to the foam cores. Now we have foam cores but they solid with no 12 mm close out flange pieces. Likewise I cannot find them in the rest of the parts or on the packing lists. I recall digging out foam on our short wing ailerons and flaps (we purchased the fast build option). Are there pieces somewhere we don't recognize or are we slice 12 mm off each end of the foam cores? Thanks Jim & Heather Butcher starting glider wings

Failing that, check with Andy for the length of the cores before you trim any more off. Cheers, Nev.

This should work???? Patrick - no! I think you have missed the vital part of Bruce's explanation - the UK pound sign is not included in the 128-character US ASCII set. However you contrive to insert that character (which will be different character codes depending on various features of your own machine) in your message, it will still NOT get transmitted as-is by e-mail. It's like sending a wing spar by railway wagon; if your spar is longer than the standard wagon, a bit will get chopped off before the rail journey. If the packing agent doesn't include instructions on how to repair the now 2-piece spar, or if the unpacking agent discards those instructions (the case described by Bruce) then you as final recipient don't even know you're not getting the full original spar at your end. For unambiguous representation of the UK sterling pound sign without writing those words out in full, many people use the abbreviation "UKP". I have seen "L" occasionally but despite it being the obvious abbreviation of "Libra" (as in Librae, Solidi, Denarii - LSD) I don't know if that would be widely interpreted correctly. Less commonly, and probably more confusingly, some use the US pound sign (#, binary 010 0011, octal 043, decimal 035, hex 23) instead. Mac people in UK generate this by option-3; I imagine there is some similar facility available in other operating systems and hardware. Obviously, in the USA and its dominions, shift-3 generates #, not UK pound sign. Hope this helps! regards Rowland -- | Wilma & Rowland Carson <http://home.clara.net/rowil/> | <rowil@clara.net> ... that's Rowland with a 'w' ...

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Craig Ellison" <craig.ellison2@verizon.net> All 914 builders and flyers, I attempted to do throttle calibration yesterday and also set the stops for max power(100%) and take-off(115%). The Europa install manual for 914 says there are detailed instructions in the Rotax install manual. I couldn;t find any but went ahead anyway. The program page asked for idle and max throttle settings and that was it and said the calibration was complete. My question is how do you set the max contunuous thrattle setting? And is it done with the computer or with RPM and engine running? BTY I did start the engine for the first time. She caught on the first blade and ran very smooth at 1800rpm and above. Carb bal. is next. However, on production aircraft, FAA has approved drilling a hole in the firewall, inserting a grommet, running the bundle through it, and sealing up the gap. Any type of connector arrangement is two potential points of failure per wire, and more weight. A grommet for something as thick as the firewall will probably have to come from places like mouser.com or digikey.com, though. Reg, Fred F.
