Here on the eastern side of the pond the Rotax engine
comes with four VDO instruments (voltmeter, oil pressure,
oil temp and ch temp - the last two are the same).
The VDO instruments are designed for the Rotax senders (or
rather I suppose the senders are designed for the VDO
instruments).
ACS sell a much cheaper oil pressure sender. The
temperature senders in the Rotax there are three - the one
used for oil is the same as the one used for CHT - are
metric and there isn't much of a choice when replacing them.
If you want water temp (rather than cylinder head temp)
then use a imperial thread sender designed for VDO and
either tap it into the top water reservoir, or into a
T-piece on the pipe out of the reservoir.

Hi Paddy
Sounds like a resounding lack of interest. I am game but I can't get
there until 1330 ish as I have commitments in the morning. The 18hr
TAFs are looking ok.
Regards
Pete

Westach sell cht and oil temperature senders with metric threads which are a direct
replacement for the VDO senders supplied with the Rotax engines. I've replaced
my VDO senders with these as well as fitting 4 x Westach egt senders to
my914 to support the (now defunct) Audio Flight Avionics AFA10 engine management
system. For water temperature I used a Skydrive supplied fitting which sits
in one of the hoses leading from the swirl pot and has another Westac CHT sender
screwed into it.
Regards
Tony

Lockwood Aviation now sells a oil pressure sender with a extra switch
contact on it (VDO).
I will use the switch to run a low oil pressure indicator, and also to
power a relay that will stop my Hobbs from running.

Hello Steve
No part number this second, Tisha is sending me one.
Give her a call, or I can give it to you once my order arrives.

Subject: | Battery rear for aft CG? |
--> Europa-List message posted by: <rparigor@suffolk.lib.ny.us>
I have heard mixed feelings on mounting battery on foot well or aft to get
a more aft CG.
I ground some numbers tonight.
I used:
****a 62 inch CG, then calculated upset from this point
****used both a PC 545 (12 pounds)and PC680 (15.4 pounds)
****Considered the cables from the footwell to buss and motor needed on
all three scenarios so did not penalize footwell mount
****used three positions on each battery: 1) top of right footwell, 2)
right rear baggage bay, 3) right just aft of baggage bay bulkhead
****weight of wire used was for #4 copper clad aluminium wire, but under
no scenario if #4 pure copper wire was used would it add more than 1 pound
(less actual) The #4 copper clad aluminium wire is larger in diameter than
copper #4:
http://www.periheliondesign.com./fatwires.htm
Bottom line, battery on right footwell and adding lead to forward lower
front face of sternpost to achieve same aft CG as rear mounted battery
adds between 7 and 9 extra pounds for a given CG!
Range from 7 pounds first to 9 pounds:
545 / right rear baggage bay (~ 7 pounds lighter overall)
545 / right just aft of baggage bay bulkhead
680 / right rear baggage bay
680 / right just aft of baggage bay bulkhead ( ~ 9 pounds lighter overall)
Above includes the added weight and longer run of 2 cables and its effect
on CG.
I did not include weight of lugs or battery mounting, if I did it would
make case for aft mounted battery only look better.
Comments please.
