--> Europa-List message posted by: "Justin Kennedy" <Justin@systemwise.co.uk> Hi Troy, You are right, the plenum does not fit in the Classic if you install the Skydrive carb heat. Well it didn't with ours anyway. We removed the bottom of the plenum with a hacksaw and restuck it together with bid so that the body of the plenum was bought forward enough to leave an inch between it and the firewall. The plenum vibrates with the engine and there are wires etc going across the firewall so we needed a reasonable gap. The Skydrive Carb heat is very effective and in Scotland the winter is damp (100%)and the temperature low. So far we have not had any hint of carb icing in spite of flying in ideal conditions for it. I am now sticking to the rule of CHT above 85 degrees. The other day was a good example of how I now think about Carb Icing. I was cruising at 6000ft in these kinds of conditions and the CHT dropped to around 85 degrees. A wee bit close to the carb icing range. There were some ominous looking mountains below which were not conducive to forced landings so I changed the Airmaster Prop Controller to Manual and coursened the prop to make the engine do that little bit more work in order to raise the temperature. The CHT temps rose to 95 degrees, Oil temp 110 degrees and I felt comfortable above the carb icing range again. IAS settled at 139kts which when corrected was giving me a whopping 153kts at 5000rpm. It really was going that quick because the GPS agreed. Back in the circuit having descended with the pitch set to climb/descend I kept the cowl flaps( our own mod.) closed and the CHT never went below 90 in spite of the decent. What a cracking little aeroplane this is. I love it. The joys you have in store. Cheers Justin Kennedy & Ted Galdstone G-ZTED Europa Classic Monowheel 912S Airmaster CP Prop justin@systemwise.co.uk

Subject: Mod 61 - Stall warner question
--> Europa-List message posted by: Andrew Sarangan <asarangan@yahoo.com> I am confused by the Mod61A instructions. If I understand it correctly, the probe tube is meant to go through the spar, penetrating the trailing and leading rib flanges. So, what exactly is the purpose of the welding rod? Since this is a flexible wire, it is going to flop around as you feed it in. Furthermore, the instruction says the wire will put a mark into the leading edge of the rib flange. How is this wire supposed to put a mark? Even if it did, its not going to be visible anyway from outside the wing skin. Ami I the only one who found this very confusing?? Thanks! --> Europa-List message posted by: NevEyre@aol.com The welding wire is meant to ''find'' the position of the rib, and you ''eyeball'' down the exposed portion of the wire, as you would a snooker cue, and extend that line onto the upper wing skin, to the L / E. A powerfull light shining through the hole in the spar, [ with a blanket over your head, onto the leading edge area, as a Victorian photographer would have done] will also find you the rib position,,, ie the Redux bond line shows up as a dark shadow. Cheers, Nev.

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Jeremy Davey" <europaflyer_3@msn.com> Andrew, The welding rod is to help you find the point on the LE to make the hole with the template. It doesn't make a mark. To be honest it's a complete bollock-ache way of doing it. Much better is to use the technique already well described on this forum using pieces of tape, a strong light, and the Mk.1 eyeball. I'm sure you, of all people, don't need me to tell you how to search the archives to find it! :-) Regards, Jeremy Jeremy Davey Europa Monowheel 537M G-EZZA Europa Club Vice-Chairman, Webmaster, PFA NC Representative PFA EC Member "If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, then it is possible you haven't grasped the severity of the situation." Subject: Monowheel Brake
--> Europa-List message posted by: MJKTuck@cs.com Hi Folks, I finally got around to building one of those wooden blocks that can be used to hook onto the main leg (just forward of the wheel) and using a jack raise the wheel off the ground. Works great but I figured I would be able to spin the wheel. It seems the brake pad is touching the brake disc such that a force of probably a pound or two is needed to rotate the wheel. This probably accounts for the rather polished state of the brake disc - I just assumed this was from normal braking. I can pull the aircraft along with no problem. My brake handle pulls probably an inch or so before I feel the brake pressure so would have thought the brake 'relaxed' in off mode. Could it be some kind of lubrication is needed in the brake area, I think maybe gunge buildup is somehow preventing the brakes to relax. Anyone else had a similar problem. Solutions? Regards, Martin Tuck Europa N152MT Wichita, Kansas
