This seems to be a Rotax requirement. I intend to follow that requirement, although at this time i can't figure out where the advantage is. Anybody with more insight? Kind Regards, Jos Okhuijsen ----------------

--> Europa-List message posted by: "G-IANI" <g-iani@ntlworld.com> The 914 fuel system shown in the Mod 33 documentation is the old parallel pump system. This is no longer recommended by Rotax. The present recommendation is for the serial layout shown in the Tech Talk article in EF43. --> Europa-List message posted by: "Ing. Gottfried Komaier" <gottfried.komaier@gmx.net> Dan, I know that the emotions about the electrical fuel pumps are great. Parallel, or in series, this is the point where the opinions are divided. I let the pumps work in series as ROTAX laid down in the latest Maintenance- and Operators-Manual, as this version seems to me the only logical design when flying at high altitudes. If you look at the different ROTAX manuals (Operators-, Installation-, Maintenance-Manual) you will see in every book another idea. (Installation-M, page 48 dated 10.5.96 the pumps are operating in PARALLEL, acc. Maintenance-M, page 32 dated 1.2.97 and acc. Operators-M, page 9-2 dated 1/98 in SERIES). The documentation of ROTAX is disastrous! I'm suprised that the Authorities accept this different and not up-to-date manuals. I agree, it seems like an important issue to be having debate on and that Rotax or someone would come down in a more definate fashion on it. Thanks to all for the replys so far, Dan ----------------

Dave Anderson is flying his XS 914 with glider at 17,000'. He used to have a web page with his build log, but I haven't looked for it lately so I will have to. Formerly it could be accessed from the Europa site somehow. Vaughn Teegarden ============================================================ > > >

--> Europa-List message posted by: Jim Brown <acrojim@cfl.rr.com> Vaughan, We have an XS mono wheel, with the 914 installed. The fuel pumps are in parallel which is what Rotax was preaching at the time of our installation. We do a lot of long cross countries, and we fly in the high teens (15000-17500) when winds aloft are favorable. We have not experienced any fuel problems, at these altitudes, and a lot of this time was using auto fuel....I would say we have at least 20 hours logged at these altitudes. Rotax has made a lot of changes since 2000, when we first flew our a/c. Several times different oils have been recommended, the coolant change, and now the fuel pump change, to name a few. I thank as they see the operating experience of the 914 in private hands, and the military, we will continue to see running changes as they see fit. Just my thoughts. --> Europa-List message posted by: "Steve Hagar" <hagargs@earthlink.net> Pumps in parallel increase volume, pumps in series increase pressure. This per Eric Tucker the Rotax class instructor. Presently have pumps in parallel per initial instructions. Need to evaluate what it will take to change it out. Does anyone out there know a 4 ft tall 90 lb mechanic?
