I've heard the same thing about the Rotax tachs. Fortunately, the
Airmaster prop controller takes its RPM reading from the prop and
constrains the engine according to that reading. Or so I've been told.
So far (at 150hrs) the tach coincides with the factory set numbers
(5700, 5400, 5000) set up in the prop controller. I've also heard that
improper adjustment of the ignition/tach pickups can cause errant tach
readings...

Hi,
I have lots of ideas going through my head at the moment about propellers and things
but I wanted to check what the general feeling was about the most simple
(and factory suggested) set up which I would see as follows:
Monowheel
Rotax 912 S
Warp Drive 3 blade Fixed Pitch Prop
I'm sure a lot of people have gone down this route (or started here) so could you
tell me what take off and cruise performance figures you saw with this.

Hi Phil.
If you are not planning on operating out of very short strips there are no
problems with the 912S/fixed pitch combo. You will have plenty of power, and you
will not have the cost, weight, and maintainance issues to worry about.
You can set the pitch to give optimum cruise performance, and your wife will
be able to bring lots more hair driers and things on trips.
Try it first. Go to variable pitch if you have to!

That's correct. There is a rotational sensor built into the Airmaster
prop and that is used to provide feedback to the the prop speed
controller.

Hi! Karl
My MT CS 3 blade Prop has a diameter of 157cm (61.81") and the pitch of
106mm.
However I believe a) the spinner diameter is impeding my ram air cooling
and b)I believe that the climb and cruise capability is restricted by
the propeller limit of 3,000RPM. TBO is coming up and I'm thinking of
trying a bog standard Sensenitch or GT.
