A small piece of steel in the hole the ring goes through allows you to fish the pip pin out and replace it with a tool that has a spiral groove that screws on to the pip pin and pulls up the central portion of it, thus disengaging the pips. The tool is only about a centimetre in diameter, (lives on the ignition key ring), and the access holes in the tail planes and wing roots only need to be slightly wider. This makes the system pretty much tamper proof, so that no passing youth can readily go off with a pip pin to see how well the plane flies without it, and also covering the hole with a small circle of sticky white plastic is neat and easy. There has been lots of very good ideas and my head is now full. Ian has suggested that I will have to keep the PFA happy with any mods undertaken, and I like his Idea. I also favor the very simple method of the sticky covers (simple and affective) One again Thank You All Richard Wheelwright. ---------------- ________________________________ Message 4 _____________________________________ Time: 03:56:37 AM PST US From: "danny@mcwalterscafe.co.uk" Subject: Europa-List: paint finishing --> Europa-List message posted by: "danny@mcwalterscafe.co.uk" Hi All. Now that I've finished the filling / sanding and the UV Priming. its time to think of which top coat to use. As I've decided to farm this job out to a "proper painter" a Polyurethane type would seem to be the best. So my question to fellow builders, What did you use on your bird? did you find it satisfactory? any problems latter on? Thanks in anticipation Danny G-C.E.R.I. build no 541 ________________________________ Message 5 _____________________________________ Time: 07:47:15 AM PST US From: John & Paddy Wigney Subject: Europa-List: More on constant speed props --> Europa-List message posted by: John & Paddy Wigney Dear Europaphiles, There has been quite a bit of correspondence lately with regard to constant speed props. I have a Whirlwind hydraulic C/S prop which has served me very well for 450+ hours. I have had this prop on my plane from new after hearing Kim Prout say that it was the single biggest improvement to his plane. I have no involvement with this company but I can give a sincere testimonial. A few details :- * See information at http://www.whirlwindaviation.com/series100.php. Greg Anderson is the contact - he says current delivery timing is ~ 4 weeks. * The prop is very light, 9.3 lbs. Engine always cranks easily on cold starts. * High quality spinner and mounting. * Prop is designed for the Rotax 912/912S/914 installation. There is a gear box shaft mod required for the oil feed to the prop. * Hydraulic governor is very accurate and consistent. * Price is not inexpensive but is excellent value at $3,995 plus $1,275 for the governor. * Excellent short field take off. Fully fine max speed is easily set at 5,800 rpm. * Easily set for whatever cruise RPM and manifold pressure are desired. Excellent high speed performance - if I want to go at full blast, I just dial in 5500 rpm and go full throttle. * Whirlwind propellers are popular with the competitive aerobatic crowd. * Since the governor occupies the pad which would normally mount a vacuum pump, instrumentation must be electric only. This is not a big problem if one uses low current draw items such as a DYNON EFIS and LED nav/position lights. I've replaced my VDO senders with these as well as fitting 4 x Westach egt senders to my914 to support the (now defunct) Audio Flight Avionics AFA10 engine management system. For water temperature I used a Skydrive supplied fitting which sits in one of the hoses leading from the swirl pot and has another Westac CHT sender screwed into it. > > Regards > > Tony > > > -- > > ________________________________ Message 7 _____________________________________ Time: 05:52:25 PM PST US From: Mike Baker Subject: Europa-List: Weight and balance form Europa XS --> Europa-List message posted by: Mike Baker Hi All, Where is the weight and balance form for the aircraft?
