This way you can make the pip pin holes just big enough for the pin itself. We only worked this out after spending hours making a screw cap for the pip-pins before deciding that a couple of cm of tape was neater, lighter and simpler. Bill and Sue 465 Trigear. Only those filters assure the correct pressure for bypass valve operation. Other filters have less filtering surface and are not made to withstand the high oil pressures the Rotax 4-stroke engines operate at. To be avoided: a.. Any other filter than Rotax part 825 701. There are no equivalents or substitutes! b.. Contrarily to what some rumours would like you to believe, Rotax does not authorize the use of any other filter! Subject: Europa-List: 914 Oil pressure . Peter, The 914s have a mixture enrichment feature that kicks in at around 5000 rpm to prevent detonation during boost. The TCU commands a 3-way solenoid to switch from a low to high pressure source in the airbox effectively increasing the pressure in the carb bowls via carb vents to slightly richen the mixture. If the enrichment valve is not operating properly, you could be dumping too much fuel in the mixture at the switching point. You may want to check this valve. I power cycled again and I couldn't hear the servo moving. My frist instinct was to suspect the waste gate sticking, but I think if the waste gate is stuck then servo would move, but the cable would bow out. Any thoughts ? If I want to clean the waste gate shaft do I have to pull the muffler, or will spraying the shaft with carburetor cleaner at the lever end do the trick ? I shall have to grind off the moulding and blank this vent off to fit the cowling. Can I consider this par for the course or have I fallen into some trap that those who have gone before can reveal? Thanks chaps. To avoid a potential major error take time to check your cowl fitting thoroughly. The limitation of the fore-aft position of the cowl is determined by the spinner backplate. I haven't got the manual with me at the moment so I cannot refresh my memory as to the instructions provided. However I remember Ian Rickard came up with a design for a small jig which was temporarily fitted to the prop flange. This defined the position of the cowl and provided a temporary support for it whilst the rear edges were measured and trimmed. I described a technique for measuring and trimming which was published in the Europa Flyer about 9 months ago along with other firewall forward tips. You might find this useful if you look it up. As a quick cross check if you were to temporarily fit the spinner and position the top cowl so it clears it by about 5mm you could then see approximately the amount of overlap you need to trim. I made mine fit the 914S flange and then found out the Airmaster required a little different fit. I suggest you rethink the fit. It sounds to me you have missed something. Cliff Shaw 1041 Euclid ave. No problem, most of my gill vents are blocked off on purpose. I don't want a bunch of air blowing out over the top of the engine and out those gills. The air needs to go down over the cylinders. So basically my last gill slot is ground away where there is interference with the overlap, the air exits here and the second to the last gill slot is open all the way. The rest have not been opened up. You look into the last slot and mostly what you see is the the overlap area. In my case I consider it a non issue. This tendency is not based on scientific calculations. In my earlier life, as a military test pilot, I was aware that if you increase the wing loading of a given model, the C of G range shrinks. The dynamic & static longitudinal stability of the XS up to 1500 lbs. gross, is very acceptable across the airspeed range flown. .
