--> Europa-List message posted by: "josok" <josok-e@ukolo.fi> Hi Ron, Just measured my cable, it is not 1/8 either, i think the cable is specified as 19 x 1 or something like that. However with the 1/8 swaging tool and the supplied thimbles it became rigid. It's tested to be ok. There is a measuring tool to check the swaged cable if you want to be more then 100 % sure, Regards, Jos Okhuijsen ----------------

--> Europa-List message posted by: Jan de Jong <jan.de.jong@xs4all.nl> Gilles, very interesting. I would like to make an admission. In interpreting pressure-flow-restriction graphs and estimating pressure drops it is useful to know that flow through a restriction is proportional to the square of the pressure drop across it. I earlier assumed erroneously that Ohm's law applies with pressure / flow equivalent to voltage / current. Pressure-squared / flow comes closer to being equivalent to voltage / current. --> Europa-List message posted by: DaveBuzz@aol.com Anyone interested in this trip to Persan Beaumont (LFPA) on Saturday 22 April please let me know (off-list) direct to davebuzz@aol.com Jean-Martin and the French Europa guys will be there too - weather permitting this year! Duane are not available at P-B so we will have to route via le Touquet or, perhaps Abbeville, details to be advised. If you can let me know aircraft reg and whether you will have a spare seat, we may be able to fill them with builders. This is just a leisurely fly-out, perhaps some first-time 'Channel crossers' may be interested or a warm-up for that long summer trip, assistance available if you need it. I plan to come along too if I can get my Annual finished in time.... All the best, dave

--> Europa-List message posted by: DuaneFamly@aol.com Good Day All, If you are using the Nico measuring tool, then all you are doing is measuring is that the 1/8" sleeve has compressed to the 1/8" required measurement. But if the cable inside is less than 1/8" (3/32" in this case) then you may not get the required "bite" onto the cable and it may fail (pull thru) if there is too much force applied. The tool measurement is only right if all the correct parts are used. Mike Duane A207A Redding, California XS Conventional Gear

[ Can't even bring myself to type the units of that ''M'' system !] If swaged with a nicopress tool, or the ACS swageit tool, the cable will break before the crimp fails. [ tested them, good fun doing that !] Cheers, Nev.

--> Europa-List message posted by: <rparigor@suffolk.lib.ny.us> Hello Jos "Thanks Nev, you saved me another sleepless night or two" Me too! You see I have done a lot of work with 1/8" cables on Hot Air Balloons. Had Nico Tool, Nicos and thimbles hanging around. I just assumed the supplied cable was 1/8". I did a few crimps and it looked OK. When drilling some holes for rudder cables to pass through, I measured the exact size of cable. It was close to .100". I was angry at myself for making such an assumption. I did not have manual when I made post, or a Spruce Catalog. After I made post I figured from Spruce and the manual that use of a 3/32" Nico and tool is a much more better thing to use. If anyone has used a 1/8" nico and tool, would probably be prudent to go to 3/32" nico. If you read the "Law" (43.13 and McMaster Carr cable/nico section), it states not to use galvanized nicos on Stainless Steel cable. I asked Factory when I first got kit, and they said if you are splitting hairs, but the recommended, Copper or Plated Copper or Stainless Nicos may be better , but the Galvanized work just fine for Europa and was tested till cable failure with no nico slippage. Since I had Plated Copper Nicos for SS I was going to use them, and that could have gotten me into trouble?? Anyway I feel more comfortable using a slight oversized "Mullieemeter" cable in a 3/32" nico, than a .025" undersized "Mullieemeter" cable in a 1/8" nico. I ordered "Law" plated 3/32" nicos. Enough words, just want to make sure others don't make my blunder, especial on the 4 wheel contrivance. Ron Parigoris

CC: roger@europa-aircraft.com --> Europa-List message posted by: EuropaXSA276@aol.com Hi Mike. How's things out west? Andy did not give me a firm price on the kit as they are new. He told me to contact Roger Bull in the UK for pricing and availability. Unfortunately there were no examples of these interior kits available to photograph. Andy had material samples and was using the demonstrator at the booth to describe the style. The style is a bit different from the seats that we have seen out of the Florida area. He said that there will soon be photos up on the website in the accessories area. I told him that this kit will be of great interest to the American builders. My guess is that this job is farmed out most of the time. I did not ask Andy if they were using the Tempra Foam for cushion material but that would be good to know as well. Roger, I copied you on this. What say? Can you help us out with some information, pricing and perhaps a few photos? Do not archive. If I didn't know better, I would have thought that I lived in England. ;-) But hope springs eternal that we will do as we did last year.....not have any spring, just go right into summer with our 110' temps and 10% humidity. But I would be interested in the new interior that E2004 can supply. Right now I have a do-it-yourself-and-it-looks-like-it job that will do until I get flying. Then I can get the wife off to see some other Europas with the nice interiors and she will want me to change it. The money is there as long as she thinks she thought of it. Subject: Skin deformation around fuel inlet
--> Europa-List message posted by: "Timothy.P.Ward" <ward.t@xtra.co.nz> Hi all, Has anyone had fuselage skin deforming below the fuel cap and in line with the fuel 'cobra' inside plastic fuel inlet. I heard it was to do with temperature differences and dark cover over this area with strong sunlight. Anyway I have it and would be interested in others who have and their remedy for it. My 'cobra' inlet does follow the line of the inside fuselage skin most of the way. Neville has given me good ways of fixing it below however would be interested if anyone else experienced it. Cheers, Tim Hi Tim, Only ever seen this if a dark cover is left on the fuselage in strong sunlight, if you can cut through the Bid straps that hold the ''cobra'' to the inside of the fuselage, and make up a polythene and ''gaffer tape'' tank on the outside, you can pour nearly boiling water into the ''tank'', and spring the fuselage back out, with gentle force from the inside. Balsa works well for that. After you have got the shape back, flox the balsa between the inner skin and the cobra, and get a couple of plies of Bid over the balsa, then put new straps over the lot. If all else fails it will be a case of filling and painting over the top. Cheers, Nev. I heard the other day, estimates to have a coffin made for Gene Pitney, were 3 weeks from Oak, but only 24 hours from Balsa.

--> Europa-List message posted by: Keith Hickling <keithhickling@clear.net.nz> Hi Jos, Blue Mountain Avionics have just released a new generation 4 version of their EFIS lite. Small display (3.8 inches) but it has all the previous features plus now high resolution contoured terrain display as well as airspace mapping on the GPS screens, showing projected track ahead.. Other screens show flight instruments (similar to Dynon plus ground speed and track, wind aloft ) and a HSI display from GPS displaying "virtual VOR". You can set up any point as a virtual VOR point. It doesn't have ability to display AOA like the Dynon. Price is 2750 US dollars I think - inclused all the GPS system. For 3900 they now make EFIS Lite plus, with a 6 inch display. Andy cautioned me that some people have had some problems with the previous versions, but it does look very nice. Has anyone on the list used the BM EFIS lite or sport EFIS ?
