This unknown builders website http://www.antsol.com/ continues to be updated with an interesting story of images, but what is on earth is being done on the pitch linkage on the latest photos? I don't recall doing this!! Brian Hutchinson

    Subject: Pitch Forces
--> Europa-List message posted by: "R.C.Harrison" <ptag.dev@tiscali.co.uk> Hi! Jeff. Have you the trim system set to neutral and mid range? The little trim tabs have the capability of deploying huge forces since the stabilators are "all flying control" Until you have the feel of the pitch trim sensitivity you will think the pitch is heavy. Since the pitch trim motor is quite speedy you only require small "dabs" of power to it to get a balanced trim control load. Some can't hack the fast trim and have introduced a slower circuit facility from the Allen Co. to either replace the Europa supplied relay deck or similar. I had a defective relay deck but for a long while they were saying it was a a connection problem but then discovered it was the type of points they used in the relay getting dirty. They sent me a replacement relay and Bingo, problem gone. However to illustrate my point, if this phenomenon occurred in flight the only way I could clear it was to allow the trim to go all the way to the end limiter, initially I tried to hold the controls against the forces but was so concerned about the loads I then allowed the aircraft to do as the trim tabs were demanding until it reversed back from the limiter to normal flight, making sure I stopped it at the right place instead of needing to back off again! Of course the forces are still present in the stabilators and trim tabs when this happens but not right back to the control column. All quite scary really but sorted out now. It would be a major challenge to land the aircraft with the trim system on maximum position either way. Thats while sitting on the ground or in the air at maneuvering speeds. Reading other plane reviews over the years authors have noted this to not be good or desirable. I on the other hand haven't found it annoying but am wondering if other Europas are like this. None of the push rods seem to be rubbing anywhere. Is their any lubricant others have used and if so where has it had the best effect? Any Ideas or advice would be appreciated. Thanks In advance, Jeff R. A258 / Gold Rush... Flying off the 40

Fix? Certainly have - and the problem of the guides coming loose from time to time. This last seems to be due to the long aft shoot bolt not entering the guide at a perfect angle but bearing on one side. A slight bend in the long bolt seems to have cured this I have removed a small amount of from the rear of the door material to set the guide further forward and then fixed it into position with two part and a considerable build up of material around the guide. No problems for some time now so hope this is a permanent solution. Patrick

    Subject: Navaid Autopilot (wing leveller)
--> Europa-List message posted by: BEBERRY@aol.com For some time I have been trying to get this item to work correctly. The AP1 is o.k. and has been tested by the manufacturers. The servo seems not to work correctly even when set up and calibrated acording to the manual. Symptons.... Switch everything on , including Wing Leveller (all this on the ground), and the servo actuating arm duly sets itself to a neutral position, taking the control column with it, of course. Moving the turn knob on the AP then has no effect. The servo actuating arm remains in the neutral position, chattering away quietly to itself, but induces no stick movement. Can anyone with a similar bit of kit help with any suggestions of where to look next please? Patrick

--> Europa-List message posted by: "Jeremy Davey" <europaflyer_3@msn.com> Taking a large dose of guessing juice... It looks like he's done what many folks do - cut the slots for the trim system according to the lines on the moulding. He's then found out they are in the wrong place, so he's glassed over the slots and started again. It looks to me like he's made a jig that replicates the movement of the trim-tab drive and he's using that to manufacture the slots precisely. An interesting approach, and certainly worthwhile, I'd have thought, if one was making many Europae (e.g. Flightcrafters). As mine was purely a one-off I achieved it simply by careful manual sanding - takes longer to do, but the extra was less than the time to make the jig. From: "josok" <josok-e@ukolo.fi>
--> Europa-List message posted by: "josok" <josok-e@ukolo.fi> Hi Brian, Exactly the same problem here. The aft shoot bolt and the guide were hitting the door frame. There was enough space at the front. I am happy you hit the same result! After scratching my head and deciding i probably had some glitch while measuring i decided to grind the guide and the shoot bolt down to fit, with a 1 mm clearance for paint. Furthermore i bought some nylon bearings, which happen to have the same size as the shoot bolt guides. Somebody had that tip on the forum,l don't remember part numbers sorry. These bearings allow scratch free operation, and since there is no edge on the end, allow for less space needed between door and post. Two days ago i bonded the bearings in the door frame for the first door, and it works nice. Remember that the reinforcements of the frame add more material to hold the guide. The material on the post added up to 5 mm here. Looks rigid enough, the guide being 12 mm in my case. Maybe the picture helps. Oh, don't cry bad, this is only the f irst glue to get a fix of he guide in the right position and angle. --> Europa-List message posted by: "D Wysong" <hdwysong@gmail.com> Hello Keith - I recently wrote some software for a buddy that wanted a "poor man's" repeater for his BM EFIS Lite (... something for the wife to look at while flying in the right seat). The refresh rate on the Lite was horrible in my opinion (~4 Hz).... especially when compared to that of the Dynon (64 Hz!!). He claimed it didn't bother him in flight but it drove me nuts just watching it on the bench. Reports on the new G4's are encouraging, though. Update rates are supposed to be much better (>20 Hz) with all of the added bells n' whistles. He has one on order and I'm sure we'll port the repeater software to it. I'll report back once we put some bench time on the unit if you wish. Albeit that the Kitfox had lighter pitch than roll, which contributed to its interesting handling! Never a problem, though, as the Europa responds quickly to "ANY" movement of the stick. On a side note, are you going to be up for the meeting with John at Mattlews in mid May?
