Hellooo listrs,
I have a rotax 912 uls that developed a nasty vibration between 4000 to 5000
revs that turned out to be the gearbox tension springs fitted incorrectly.
That was about 25 hours ago, and now, quite suddenly it is having great
difficulty starting. After much googling it seems as though the sprag clutch
is going out. But the interesting thing is about the only extensive and
useful references to this problem on all the net comes back to this list. So
I am wondering if you guys think that this is a particular problem with your
aero planes. My engine is in a Slepcev Storch with about 580 hours on it,
and I am thinking that the gearbox issue may have been a precursor. Of those
that had a sprag clutch go on this list , was vibration a symptom? The
vibration is still there but not amplified by the incorrectly setup
gearbox anymore I think. In the meantime I will send it away to be fixed, so
am also wondering if there were any other issues that had to be addressed
besides the HD starter.
But mostly, thanks to the contributors who helped me track down the problem
using the archives. Sometimes the internet seems to be mans best friend!
Regards
Gtblu

Subject: | Mid-week DOTH - Wednesday 14th June - HUDDERSFIELD |
Hi! William
I was there recently. Just a word to all intending to go :- if landing
on 09 it is down hill to a quarry edge, the initial threshold and
section of the runway is grass and has a smooth transition to hard paved
runway continuing. The procedure is simply to "go round" if you aren't
well established in the roll out whilst on the grass, otherwise you may
finish up down the hill and into the quarry! Obviously the other way on
24 it is up hill on the hard paved runway. Watch turbulence from cool
air along the 09 approach off the reservoir. Also watch for sinking air
into the quarry on 24.
Wish I was with you !
Regards
Bob H

DOTHers,
Let's make use of this glorious weather.
Richard Iddon and I propose a DOTH to Huddersfield on Wednesday 14th
June. Freebie landing voucher in "Pilot" and excellent pub-grub at the
end of the runway.
See those of you who can make it at about 12.00 noonish.
Best wishes,
William

Subject: | Which tyre to use on a Monowheel ? |
--> Europa-List message posted by: "flyingphil2" <ptiller@lolacars.com>
Hello,
I'm rebuilding a monowheel and am working on the main undercarriage.
I have 2 brand new tyres and am wondering which is the best one to use. The first
is a 7.00-6 Air-Trac (6 ply). The second is a 8.00-6 Air-Hawk (6 ply) tyre.
I note that the Air Hawk is supposedly a better quality tyre than the Air-Trac
but the Air-Trac is the one that Europa supply.
So, the question is which size is best and which type? The aircraft when finished
will have a basic fixed pitch Warp Drive prop on and will be used for general
flying off grass and tarmac. I would like an aircraft that copes well with
rough farm strips too.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts!
Phil

Brian,
I have started a new thread for this in case the e mail repeating
problems
are still there.
Nev Eyre did a brilliant write up a while ago on how to do the top skin
bonding. I think you can find it from the archive list. One of the
things
he recommended was detaching the top of the aileron close out from the
rib
so that it can flex when you put the sticks (or better still, a strip of
vinyl floor covering- Lino to us old =91uns) between the close out and
the
aileron. At the moment your picture shows a normal situation for this
stage
in the process.

Hey Dean!
How are ya? Was thinking about you a lot a few weeks ago. Took the
whole family for 4 days of Disney. We rode your track a number of times.
Hope you are doing great.
Actually my problem right now is the aileron rubbing on the top of the
aileron close out. Not the wing panel top. I was wondering if the
sticks on top of the aileron would help spread the closeout itself so it
would not rub. Any ideas? Photo attached.
Or will the trimming of the top take care of this situation?
So how's the bird?

Phil,
I have a Air Hawk 7.00 - 6 fitted made by Speciality Tyres of America. That
doesn't help I know, but that was recommended.
Cheers,

If you intend to operate from a farm strip, particularly a rough one as a
fellow mono flyer and I do, you will find the Europa Air-Trac very good.
Better than some of the stiffer, more expensive makes.
To avoid bounces and help with the tracking, do not inflate above 20 psi.
Hope this helps. Bryan
