We will be staying sat at the Travelodge if anyone wants to meet up. Alan & Kate 17/18th June the North Weald fly in. This year=92s event is linked in with the Air Britain event so it is likely to be a busy day. You will need a slot. It would be helpful to call beforehand -Alan Couchman at the Squadron 44(0)1992 524 510 to advise ETA which will help in assessing numbers. Also it is, by chance, the Queens birthday so the RAF team has put together a rather LARGE fly past which will over fly North Weald at 12.55pm. en route to Buckingham Palace. If you want to see it rather than an official from the CAA I suggest you get on the ground by that time or arrive later. Camping is available and basic facilities will be available the whole weekend. As there is likely to be quite a crowd with the Commanche society and the Navion society present I am not sure what the food availability will be in the evening . If you want to be a little more comfortable then accommodation is available as follows. Can=92t say which is best as we haven=92t stayed at any. 1. the Travelodge http:www.travelodge.co.uk at North Weald, 2. Pergola Lodge Guest House houses in Epping, about 4 miles (6kms) away; http:www.stayinepping.co.uk, only a small place but Maz Bradwood, the owner is happy to give a =A35 reduction for us pilots. 3. Brooklands, no web site but also in Epping tel: 44(0)1992 575 424 Pooleys unfortunately does not confirm circuit height which is 800=92 on QFE and about 1150=92 on QNH. The field is underneath the Stansted TMA which starts at 1,500=92 so it would be good to get below that level well beforehand. >From the North you need to be descending to 1500=92 on the QNH before Ware and then under the Stansted approach path at below that level. ________________________________ Message 3 _____________________________________ Time: 07:15:05 AM PST US From: John & Paddy Wigney Subject: Europa-List: Re: Which tyre to use on a Monowheel ? --> Europa-List message posted by: John & Paddy Wigney Hi Phil, I have used a McReary Airtrac 7.00-6, 6 ply from day 1. It has served me well for 500 hours and 700+ landings. I note that the ribs in the tire are now fairly well worn and I will probably change it sometime in the next 100 hours. I keep the pressure at ~18 psi. Most of my landings are on hard runways but it works fine on grass. You may find that the 8.00-6 is a tight fit in the wheel well. Cheers, John ********** Subject: Europa-List: Which tyre to use on a Monowheel ? From: "flyingphil2" Hello, I'm rebuilding a monowheel and am working on the main undercarriage. I have 2 brand new tyres and am wondering which is the best one to use. The first is a 7.00-6 Air-Trac (6 ply). The second is a 8.00-6 Air-Hawk (6 ply) tyre. I note that the Air Hawk is supposedly a better quality tyre than the Air-Trac but the Air-Trac is the one that Europa supply. So, the question is which size is best and which type? The aircraft when finished will have a basic fixed pitch Warp Drive prop on and will be used for general flying off grass and tarmac. I would like an aircraft that copes well with rough farm strips too. Thanks in advance for your thoughts! We are aiming to be there at 1200 and I have negotiated a reduction in the landing fee (from 12 to 10). Anyone coming please contact me with aircraft reg and I will tell them you are coming/get PPR for the whole group. It is our intention to take the Europa over to the U.S. later this year to enjoy some "winter flying" so we may not have it available in September, as it all depends on when the container people need it by, to ensure it arrives when we are over there. So it may be that we have to join you in our Rockwell instead, only trouble with that is that we intend putting it up for sale this summer as our twin Comanche will be finished and flying by late summer. So we cant give you details of what aircraft we are likely to have available at the time! It may be best to leave us off your paperwork list and we can do our own nearer the time, but please keep us informed of developments and who to contact etc. so we can get the necessary stuff done when we are able to. Hope that all made sense? I envisage flying about 500 nm a day (in 2 bites) with stops in S. France, Spain & Morocco (Marakech) on the way down, and Morocco, Gibraltar, Portugal and France on the way back. La Gomera is relatively undeveloped island with interesting volcanic structure, with a nice small and inexpensive airfield, near to a very pleasant and moderately priced hotel, and I plan a 2 day stop there. We would need to island hop from Morocco along the Canaries chain, with the longest sea crossing about 53 nm. Getting permission to fly in Morocco is a bit tortuous, and there are other issues to consider like extending insurance for those whose cover doesn't already include the top left hand bit of Africa, so I need expressions of interest by the end of June. The dates have been chosen to fall outside the peak tourist season and to anticipate manageable ambient temperatures. The finish date naturally depends on us not being held up by adverse weather. The party size will be limited to 6 aeroplanes. I recently changed to a 700-6 8 ply because I thought it would give me a bit extra wall stiffness, but to be honest I have hardly noticed any difference. What I do find though is that I go through inner tubes. Running at 18 psi seems to chafe the tube and I have had two of them fail, so I now just swap them out at 100~150 hours. Thank god I have a mailwasher program, but I have a sneaking suspicion that, as I delete them, more come down, or simply the in box at my isp is simply full of them. Any help you can offer would be appreciated. Reg Tony Renshaw Sydney Australia > EuropaXSA276@aol.com wrote: > > Hey Dean! > How are ya? Was thinking about you a lot a few weeks ago. I am also waiting to bond on the top skin and wondered why only thin plastic is suggested under the aileron closeout rather than spacers as under the flap closeout during bonding ? Would spacers such as mixing sticks not reduce the need to sand the closeout back later? I might have missed some replies as my mailbox was full for 2 days. Thanks, Keith. ----- Original Message ----- From: EuropaXSA276@aol.com To: europa-list@matronics.com Sent: Tuesday, June 13, 2006 12:22 PM Subject: Europa-List: Question: Bonding The Top Wing Panels Hello Builders and Flyers! I am in the process of bonding the wing tops on. The manual says to use tongue depressors for spacers on the top of the flaps to give clearance. < Some of you have used a strip of Vinyl flooring> However for the Ailerons, only a thin strip of packing tape is used to "keep them from bonding to the top skin". No spacers??? I have a problem that I have a slight rub with the ailerons on the top of the ailerons close out. This rubbing area occurs on both ailerons towards the root end. I did get the updated manual that says to use a 2" spacer when doing the reinforcement lay-up. I sanded and did another lay-up and this helped considerably. But there is still a slight rub. Would attaching some tongue depressors on the top of the ailerons during the top panel bonding fix this aliment? Thanks in advance.
