I was surprised with the time it takes from the filter running dry to the engine acutally quitting. Also, when the engine quits and you switch to aux tank it is a matter of seconds til you have full power again. Please keep your technique - it makes a lot of sense - but for all out there - don't worry too much, even when the outlet goes dry due to change in attitude - I reccon you can fly a full circuit on what is left in the fuel line. Great Airplane she is, the Europa ! ----- Original Message ----- From: RoddyEuropa@aol.com To: europa-list@matronics.com Subject: Re: Europa-List: Usable Fuel Date: Tue, 27 Jun 2006 01:25:48 EDT Something to be aware of is that you could get fuel starvation when you change attitute from level to climb if there is not much fuel in whatever side of the tank you are drawing fuel from. This is because the tank is square shaped at the bottom, and the fuel outlet is at the front. So take the following scenario: you are landing with an almost empty main 'tank', but a couple of gallons in the reserve. All is fine because your approach attitude is level or slightly nose down. Then you have to go around - nose up, the fuel goes to the back of the tank, and the engine gets starved of fuel just when you needed it most! Because of this, if I'm close to having to change to reserve when getting close to landing, I change to the reserve tank a few minutes before landing. When my stabilators on on and pinned they are on the pins all the way. 2) Has anyone installed some sort of tension-er to prevent vibration of this side to side clearance? (perhaps a 3/4 pound #10 round nose plunger) I have no side to side clearance when Stabilators are installed 3) When making the stabilators work, in either positive or negative angle of attack, is the aerodynamic force pulling the tips of the stabilators forward? (like the tips of wings are pulled forward) Don't know.... 4) Has anyone bent or broken the antiservo drive pin/horn by perhaps a bird strike, someone pushing on the stabilator backwards, perhaps because there was not enough side to side clearance? There was some trouble with early drive pins and a mandatory mod was released. 6) Anyone use anti critter covers for this slot? Yes, See: http://www.europaowners.org/BirdHole The bottom is also shaped like ^ so it won't allow water in or to pool. If you did this, what parts did you order? I note a suggestion that the bent tube on one side should be replaced by a 'straight' tube but the ones supplied by Rotax are too short and the nipple ends up inside the duct - where it would be difficult to clamp it with the cooler in place. What have I done wrong? The 914 installation manual seems to leave a lot of the details out. On another bent, the manual suggests the cooling duct which slides down twixt the footwells may be attached to the inside walls by means of a -3 bolt and an MS 21042-3 anchor nut "installed in reverse". These are long enough to allow you to drop the cooler. For the MS21042-3, drill out an initial 3/16" hole then countersink it, from within the tunnel, large enough to accept the raised part of the nut. When you fit the nut you'll be fitting it so that the plate is mounted on the tunnel wall but with the raised part embedded into the countersunk area.
