I am using Westach 712-4D6K EGT sensors and had no trouble in drilling the
captive nut to take locking wire, But no operational experiences yet!

Hi all,
I have an unusual problem. I have two EGT sensors installed, one on the
front port exhaust and the other on the rear starboard.
The probes and the mounts were supplied by Grand Rapids. The probe mounts
are simple screw in devices with a compression gland to secure the probe.
They are made of brass. The problem I am having is that every 50 hours or
so the rear gland unscrews itself. When I install it, its is really tight
to screw in, but it still comes out. I have replaced it 3 times but it
hasn't made any difference, the darn thing still eventually unscrews. It
never happens to the front pipe, which is cooler than the rear one.
Anyone have any ideas on what to do ?. My first thought is to try and get
one made out of stainless steel so the co-efficient of expansion is the
same.
Thanks, Paul

Paul,
We are using EI ungrounded sensors. They come with a stainless steel
compression fitting. Unfortunately the fitting is not available in metric
threads as required to fit the boss on the exhaust supplied by Rotax. We
just had our machine shop rethread the supplied fittings to the metric
thread. We've had no problem with them loosening in 60 hrs. You should be
able to find stainless steel fittings at McMaster or similar suppliers.

Hi
I am planning to go to Kemble for the FFF '06, but it seems I can't
get the AIC's down from NATS's site as a "non-GB-citizen"...?
Anybody else outside GB got the registration to work?
Or - "What do I do?"

Hi all,
Someone on the list recently was asking about the torque
values on the warp drive prop. As I have just received my prop this
morning here is what they quote.
** note: After adjusting the blade pitch, tighten the clamping bolts in
increments of 20 inch pounds up to the full recommended torque. Do not
fully tighten the bolts in one step! tightening one bolt to the full
torque could change the pitch of the blade. Torque the clamping bolts
evenly in a criss-cross path.
Torque Values.
Torque the 1/4" clamping bolts to 120 inch pounds or 10 foot pounds.
Torque the 5/16" or 8mm bolts to 175 inch pounds or 15 foot pounds.
Hope this helps

Hi Paul,
May be that it is time to upgrade to bayonet type probes.
I have had no issues with my probes in 200 hr.
The probes themselves are not expensive, but you would need
to weld bungs to the sample holes on the proximal down pipes.
See you at Osh Paul!

A question for those with Vacuum Systems - I have been testing my engine
prior to first flight and I have a low vacuum reading, around 3.5 to 4
and the Rapco site says that all of their regulators are factory set to
5. Has anyone had to adjust their regulators and if so by how much?
Thanks

Steve.
My vacuum has never been above 4 but all instruments seem to work OK. I
have stopped worrying about it.
Congrats on getting your permit and hope the flight testing goes well.
Richard.

I think that safety wiring or replacing the brass compression nut with a
stainless steel one might not be a bad idea.

Subject: | Anyone interested in a removable landing/taxi light? |
--> Europa-List message posted by: <rparigor@suffolk.lib.ny.us>
Anyone interested in a removable landing/taxi light, should weigh not too
much, approx thickness of your finger, and not draw 2 amp?
We finally got to fooling with our latest and greatest LED order.
Pretty impressed with the 10mm 12 degree angle 80,000+mcd LEDs for landing
lights and the 30,000mcd 5mm 20 degree angle for taxi lights.
I figure net illumination will be close to a 50 watt Cessna landing light
with little heat and amp draw in line with surplus anemic Rotax generator
wants to offer.
Idea is a joint venture. Someone with flying Europa with a XS cowl do some
test flying, tape foam a little at a time until happy with shape and size,
not too much drag and cooling etc is OK. (Double sticky and clear
packaging tape, 3M 375) Idea is to make a form fit to bottom of intake on
cowl, easy on and off with a few fasteners. Thickness needs only to be
bout as thick as your finger.
Send me over the foam, and I will fool and figure how and what to fit. I
can populate with what I have and put in a battery in the foam for easy
acid test.
If test goes well, thinking 240 10mm 12 degree aimed for landing, and
between the 10mm, 60 5 mm 20 degree aimed for taxi. Cost is under $.50
each. Thus ~ $150. Can easily incorporate wig wag from 60 5mm to 240 10mm.
12 degree angle spread over 300 feet is not much more than glider wing
span. 20 degree angle gives up a little beyond taxi speed.
OK lets add some realistic fudge:
2.5 amp draw
Weight a few pounds
$250
Very little heat given off
Even if over-driven "LONG" service life
Vibration resistant
8 mounting screws (probably 6?) 2 of which will power unit
Anyone interested?
A year ago if you purchased the latest and greatest from Hosfelt
Electronics, 300 LEDs would be close to $2,000.00 and they were not as
powerful!

It gives excellent results and is easy to use. Mark has developed it on
his and many other Europas over the past four years.
