Hi, Alain,
I'm installing the TruTrak 2-axis in my bird. The pitch axis drive is onto the
torque-tube under the tank, acting onto additional lugs that I got Europa 2004
to weld on for me.
My bird is in storage while Liza and I get our next house (and my next workshop!)
sorted, but I have pics if you want?

It turns out that price is for another type of carb. The Rotax Bing carb
rubbers are =A341.26 incl VAT.

Looking to longer term servicing I have been costing the rubber
connectors which connect the carbs to the manifolds on the Rotax
engines. In the UK these are an extortionate price of about 50UK pounds
each. I checked the price in France and they were still about 50 Euros
each. I recently spoke to the owner of a Banbi (which also uses the
Rotax) and he says that these parts can be obtained much cheaper from
BMW as they are used with Bing carbs on BMW motorcycles. He also said
that the rubber diaphragms within the carbs are also much cheaper from
BMW. Has anyone else got any suggestions on this?

I would think that, at a conservative estimate, the cost of production of
the Rotax Bing Carburretor rubbers are about 80p each. Who is being ripped off?

You may think they're expensive but be warned.......
The Rotax 'official' oil and water hose are each about 17 per metre - I
thought this was a ridiculous price when we changed all of the hoses on
G-MFHI.
However....... I recently changed the water hoses on my Kit Car (can't get
enough fibreglass!) using hose from the local motor factor. About 10 hours
later, I arrived home and as I was putting the car into the garage, one of
the new hoses split clean open for about 2 inches along its length dumping
all of the coolant onto the floor!!! (imagine if this was your Rotax!!!!)
I guess the message here is - if you buy Rotax parts, you've a much better
idea that the parts you're buying have come though a prescriptive inspection
and test process - if you nip to the motor factors for your parts and there
is problem, the insurance company may well ask a few awkward questions.

Actually, the 1/2" water hose on the Rotax is 'standard' car heater stuff!
The oil hose isn't; it's Kevlar reinforced with a high temperature rating,
but available through non-Rotax sources at about the same price as Rotax.

Bob,
I really appreciated the link for the video. Being an "old timer" on the
list I have had the pleasure of meeting Cliff and Betty on several
occasions, and they were delightful people to know.
Cliff's obvious pride in his aircraft was infectious. Anyone looking at his
aircraft couldn't fail to be inspired with their own projects. He was a
true craftsman and innovator.
He will be sorely missed from the forum, and I am sure, from many other
places and by many other people as well.
Please pass on my condolances to his family for me.
