Simon, The factory are now supplying two Matco master cylinders which are compatable with the wheel cylinders and use aircraft spec. hydraulic fluid. Hopefully, this will solve the seal problems. The tubing now being supplied looks like white nylon. I have noticed three different types of securing nut supplied by Europa. There is the Black plastic insert. A white one and also a brass (coloured) metal one. On a related subject, does any one know what the factory is now using to replace the Jamar master cylinder unit on the finger brakes? Fortunately the grass was long enough to stop us. Jeff is correct re the different sizes and I have used the brass/brass screw ons from ACS with good success during the recent flight testing. --> Europa-List message posted by: "Rob Housman" <robh@hyperion-ef.us> Unless you are exceptionally good or exceptionally lucky at making both rudder cables exactly the same length the only way to get the rudder pedals to line up left to right with neutral rudder is to have some means of adjustment. I recommend "Clip-Locking Turnbuckles" rather than the kind that require safety wire - it's much easier to install the clip in the confined space in the tail cone. --> Europa-List message posted by: Rowland Carson <rowil@clara.net> I was poking around the relatively new Matronics Wiki feature, and notice that there's nothing in the Europa section yet (maybe I'll resurrect some of my old FAQ stuff to get the ball rolling). However, there are some entries in the Engines section under Rotax. I thought the 921 entry was a bit off-beam and have edited it. I hope someone who has operating experience with the 912 might edit it more authoritatively. However, what really surprised me was what's on the 914 page: Rotax 914 An upscaled snowmobile engine that is only considered reliable when compared to Rotax 2 strokes. I'm sure this is a slur, and perhaps some of the 914 operators would like to correct it! regards Rowland -- | Rowland Carson (former Europa Club Membership Secretary) | e-mail <rowil@clara.net>

Thank you to those who responded with good feedback. I have now ordered new securing nuts with brass insert from Europa, and will replace the nylon tube length between main cylinder and the park brake valve (not sufficient slack on this short distance to only cut off the old end to ensure previously unpressed material for the new nuts). Following the discussion on the virtues of different types of heat extraction for a cabin heater it seems prudent to wait and see whether the PFA approve one of the alternative heat systems before looking further at the exhaust heat exchanger. I have told the exhaust manufacturer that other systems are being looked at and will only come back to them if none of these prove suitable. Nigel Charles

Subject: Heat shield on XS Rotax 912 silencers
Having recently done my annual permit servicing I noticed that a clamp had come detached from one of the straps which hold on the heat shield for the silencer. On closer investigation I found that two of the four corners of the heat shield had cracks and one had lost a corner of the shield entirely. This exhaust system had only been fitted for one year and a total of 55 hours running. I replaced the heat shield. Both the old and new shields had sharp corners and sharp edges. I have rounded these to reduce the risk of future cracking. The exhaust manufacturer has been notified suggesting this is done on future exhausts before dispatch. Other XS owners with 912's may wish to check their heat shields. Nigel Charles

Nigel. I've replaced two shields. The latest I manufactured out of stainless. We'll see if it holds up better...
