Subject: Wow, Cool! New List Feature... [Please Read]
Dear Listers, By popular suggestion, I've written a substantial new code module for the Matronics Email Lists system. Here's how it works... During each November, I send out quite a few PBS-like "Please make a Contribution to support your List" emails. Wouldn't it be cool if, once a member made a Contribution, they didn't have to receive my support pleas anymore for the rest of that year? Well, that's exactly what I've written! Following this posting, anyone that makes a List Contribution in 2006 will no longer receive my Contribution Pleas for the rest of the year! The best part is this not only applies to the Realtime distribution, but also the Digest distribution! For those that have made a Contribution, the Daily Digest email-version will be invisibly stripped of my requests as well! (Note that my requests will still be present in the online versions of the Digests, List Browse, and on the Forum site.) For those submitting their Contribution by personal Check, please be sure to include your email address along with your Check as this is what is used to determine eligibility. So, in a nutshell, here's how it works: Make a Contribution = No more "Please Make a Contribution" messages! How sweet is that? If that's not a great reason to jump on the Matronics Email List Contribution site and make your donation today, I don't know what is! Don't forget that there are some totally awesome free gifts to be had along with your List Contribution this year!! Don't wait a minute longer to support your Lists! http://www.matronics.com/contribution Thank you for your Support!! Matt Dralle Matronics Email List Administrator

Vaughn, Check out www.rotec.com. Based in Vancouver B.C., they are a Rotax dealer and are offering some re-built to factory spec 914's. If the price is right it might be an option. The starboard end of the elevator torque tube needs to be raised abou 1/4" in order to make it level with the fuselage sides. I'm assuming that if I I bond the top on with it raised to level. It will stay level after all has cured. Am I correct? Vaughn Teegarden N914VA Does anyone know where I can obtain a reasonably priced 914?

Hi! Robert Some time ago you published this message below ....about intercoolers. Have you flown with it yet? What intake drop in temperature is to be expected / and does it therefore promote the increased likelihood of carb ice? I am just changing over engines from a Jabiru 3300 to a Rotax 914 ! since I had a big insurance pay out for repairs due to a nose wheel departing. Best regards Bob Harrison G-PTAG trike Kit 337 600 hours with the jabiru. They have relocated from the Dallas area to north of San Antonio, Texas. Gottfried, if your attempt to contact them was during the relocation process, that would explain why they missed you. They seem quite responsive. They have the Europa intercooler for the Rotax 914, it is a regular part, complete with part number. The cost is $299 (USD) and delivery time is 5 days. You can contact Gerhard at: gms@bellintercoolers.com or by phone at 830-229-5330 As I said earlier, I will post more detailed pics of my intercooler kit along with scans of the installation instructions and a parts list this weekend. http://www.europaowners.org/N914XL Good building and great flying, Bob Borger

Robert, > Some time ago you published this message below ....about intercoolers. > Have you flown with it yet? Maybe you'll be interested to know that our 914 intercooler was designed by Gerhard Schruf to our specs, and we've been flying for two years with it. The charge air temp drop is about 25C in winter and 20C in summer (ground OAT 37C). Calculated cruise efficiency is about 60%. Concerning carb ice, our engine is tightly cowled, and the carbs usually run at 40-50 C, measured at the aft of the right float-bowl. We never experienced any ice related trouble, even flying under heavy rain. I made two cooling airscoops to direct some cold air onto the carbs. Some pictures of our cowling can be seen at http://contrails.free.fr/diap/phpslideshow.php?directory=diapo_capot_if Our setup includes a correct diffuser and ram air inlet, and a good nozzle exhaust, with no cooling air leaks nor obstructions. Of course our aircraft is not a Europa, but this may be of interest as a comparison. The empty weight and performance are about the same. FWIW, Regards, Gilles Thesee Grenoble, France http://contrails.free.fr

    Subject: Testing exhausts for leaks
Hi Guys, If you are worried about CO infiltrating your cabin heat system from your exhaust muff there is a really easy way to test for leaks. You need a shop vac that has a "blow" option, some duct tape (can't survive without it) some soapy water and something to apply the soapy water. I use a cotton ball clamped in hemostats to apply the soapy water, but you could use a squirt bottle, paper towel, etc. First, hook up the shop vac onto one exhaust stack. Tape the other closed. Turn on the vac and soap all the external welds on the expansion chamber. If you have a leak the soap will bubble. Repeat for the other stack to make sure you didn't miss any leaks the first go around. This is part of my normal routine for annual inspection on my Citabria and Pawnee (and now my Europa) And Alan, regarding your woes of trying to import your bird, remember the official FAA motto: We're the FAA. We're not happy until you're not happy! Regards, John Lawton Dunlap, TN N245E - Flying - 62.6 hours

Hi! Joe Russell I have tried to reply off forum to your question but your spam control has me "blacklisted" ? If you make a message to me direct (off forum) advising your status, interests and reasons for needing my decision, I'd be interested to make a reply, but not on forum. Hopefully you will understand my position? Best regards Bob Harrison.
