This is terribly remiss of me, but two people sent me checks earlier this
year for fuel pumps. I did not cash them as I had run out of pumps by the
time the checks arrived. I have now finally managed to get hold of some
more, so can the two please identify themselves and I will send the pumps
off without delay.
Many Thanks
Alan

Hi Folks,
On The lower cowling i have is an outline, which seems to be intended to connect
to the Rotax cooling air shroud. Is that correct, and what is the best method
to follow to make a nice join between the two?
Kind Regards,
Jos Okhuijsen

Hi Jos,
The scribe line you can see is where you cut a hole.... there is a splash
molding which sits on the outside of the cowl to lay up on the inside, which
makes a ''funnel shape scoop'' to direct air into the shroud inlet....this comes
[ or should] as part of the 912S firewall forward kit. [ If your kit was
packed by Maureen, at EMIL, chances are it is missing ?] I think I have a spare
if you need one?
912 and 914 FWF kits do not have them as standard.
Cheers,
Nev.

JOs
make a tube same diameter as the shroud inlet tube and bond that to the
cowling, then cut off the ends of the two tubes so that they mate but
don't touch. The cut line needs to be at right angles to the plane of
the vibration, so I guess in the same plane as the engine mount rubber
faces.
Long time since I saw one of these so get a second opinion ;-)

Hi! Jos
I've "just been there".
Europa say that the imprinted lines on the Cowl front are only for the
"hood" to cool the barrels on the 912S. However I am having a hood on my
914 when it comes.( I've had 7 years of keeping an engine cool thanks,
this time I will enjoy blanking off if it is over cooled !)
The best way (if you are having a hood ) is to cut out on the line and
use a specially produced mask, which is a mold. You give it two coats of
release agent and attach it with double sided tape then additional tape
over the mold to the outside of the cowl. With it fixed in place turn
over the cowl and put four layers of bid on the inside of the cowl by
25mm and mask, having prepared the area around by scuff sanding ready to
lay up in the normal manner. Cover with peel ply.
Allow to cure, remove all the outer tape, and prise off the mask.
If you have done a good job you will need a minimal amount of filling to
blend it all into the cowl and have a newly produced entrance for
cooling air to pass into the hood entrance.
Roger Cullum has a mold for this purpose which I have returned to him.
However I'm sure that Europa are able to provide it as an off the shelf
item.
If you contact him and he agrees to lend it to you I could probably
bring it to Gallivare over Christmas and bring it back if you had it
completed by the time I leave.
Regards
Bob Harrison. G-PTAG
