Hi Gilles, I tested the digital thermometer / thermocouple, when I bought it, in boiling water and, allowing for STP, it is accurate. The CHT is the standard Rotax sender / VDO gauge and has served me well for 1100 hours, but I have never tested it for accuracy. Mine is a Classic so I have the massive rads in the nose, which are about 60 % blanked off in the winter and about 30 % blanked off in the summer to maintain about 85 to 90 degs C in the cruise. In the early days I ran with 80% glycol and now I run at 50%. I tried the Evans for about 25 hours and then discarded it because its cooling qualities were so inferior. I have cowl flaps for increasing the exit area for sustained climbs in hot weather, which reduce temps by about 10 degs C. Maybe the heat transfer from coolant to thermocouple by just taping it to the outside of the tank is not good enough, or perhaps the coolant from the front pots is reducing the average in the expansion tank by 15 to 20 degs. Anyway, I have never had problems with high temps, so it is all a bit academic for my aircraft. Regards, William ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gilles Thesee" <Gilles.Thesee@ac-grenoble.fr> Sent: Sunday, January 14, 2007 11:05 AM Subject: Re: Europa-List: Rotax Water Temperature. <Gilles.Thesee@ac-grenoble.fr> > My exit coolant temp works out at 25 degs C less than the CHT pretty well > throughout the range. William, 25C seems a great temperature difference between the CHT and the coolant flowing out of the heads. That would mean that even at the 135C CHT red line (Rotax 914), your coolant would not exit the the heads above110C ? Or flying at 100C CHT, the coolant would not exceed 75C ? All the measurements I did showed a difference on the order of 5C. Have you tried checking the two temperature measuring devices in the same water or oil bath ? Fellow Europaphiles, I have placed an order with E04 for Mod 72. John Wheeler replied that the Mod 72 parts should start shipping in about 3 weeks. For those of us in the U.S., I am trying to find a local source for a 16.5mm hand reamer. If I can source one, I'll be glad to share it as needed. Good building and great flying, Bob Borger

Troy i know you wouldn't buy from the UK but the web site of a company called speedflow is great for looking at what's available. they are essentially racecar fittings but appear to be identical to the aircraft AN series. We have used them for both alu lines and SS braided. Web address is www.speedflow.co.uk Even the part numbers seem the same as AN series No doubt you could find a similar supplier in the US if ACS can't oblige Regards Paul G-GIDY On 15 Jan 2007, at 03:20, Troy Maynor wrote: > Hi All, > I am replacing the cloth braided old style fuel hose on my yet to be > completed classic. Subject: Tri-Gear For Sale
Fellow Europaphiles, I have painfully come to the conclusion that I should sell my Europa Tri-Gear A258 / Gold Rush. We are building a new home and I'm trying to add another 20 acres of land to the project / Future runway. For the next few years I will have little time for flying and the hanger rent and and an idle plane do not make sense right now. I have about 70 hours on her and she fly's perfect. This plane spent her first month of construction under the watchful eyes of Bob Berube at Flight Crafters in Florida and it came out as a perfect and balanced plane from the very first flight. Had a visit from Neville on his way to Oshkosh a few years back for one of many tech & build inspections. Others done by Steve Wright of Wright Aviation. Some of you may remember his ''Stagger EZ'' that was on the front cover of last years 2006 Oshkosh program. Having him in the hanger right beside mine was invaluable. It has a 912-S with the standard ground adjustable warp drive prop which I have set at 21 degrees. The empty weight is 877 pounds before wheel pants. I'm seeing 130 Kts at 6,500 to 7,500 ft @ 5200 RPM's and she'll do 120 Kts and sip gas at 4800 RPM's. I nicknamed her Gold Rush as you can see by the paint job. I spent a year block sanding with a high build primer then painting, and the finish is outstanding. Here is a list of the panel goodies. I-Com A200 radio Garmin 320-A Transponder Trutrack ADI with built in GPS Stratomaster E2 Engine monitoring system... My Favorite! Nav-Aid Autopilot & Servo Ray Allen Wing leveler with servo built in the aileron. UMA Altimeter, VSI, and Air Speed with V-speeds silk screened in. Panel mounted AvMap, with 7 inch screen. I split the screen with map and HSI. Flightcom 403 Intercom and a few other toys. And it has the new Gas Landing light under the prop, thats brighter than any I've ever seen but uses only 2.9 amps I have not placed an ad anywhere yet. If there is any interest please email me direct at this address jeff@rmmm.net. Best Regards, Jeff Roberts 615-406-8651 Cell jeff@rmmm.net N128LJ / Gold Rush Here is a picture with more upon your request.

    Subject: Re: Aeroquip 666
Troy, I have Aeroquip 666 throughout my fuel system except for some of the plumbing around the fuel pumps/filters. And I'd have it there if I could have figured out how to do it. I agree totally about spring clamps, jubilee clamps, etc. in the fuel system. The stuff I used around the fuel pumps/filters is rubber fuel injection hose and screw clamps and I don't like it, but haven't figured out another solution. Aeroquip 666 is great stuff but is a bear to work with if you plan to build your own hose from the bits and pieces. The Teflon is stiff and extremely difficult to get over an AN Hose Barb fitting or over the hose barb that is on the end fitting that ACS sells for the hose. I have not tried heating it to see if it will soften, something I just thought about while writing this. That might be an idea for me to try this weekend. All my hose is custom built by some subcontractor ACS uses. They build it to your exact specifications, charge you a heck of a lot for it and if it doesn't fit because you got the specs wrong, well you eat it. Just today I placed a quote request for 4 lengths (10", 11", 16" & 18") of 666-6 with a straight AN-6 fitting on one end and a 90 degree AN-6 fitting on the other. Another issue is going from your 666-6 hose with (I believe, but don't hold me to this) AN-6 fittings to another size AN-fitting. For instance, I used a long 666-6 hose to run the return back from the firewall fitting to the tank. When I was close to the fuel tank I put in an AN919-6D reducer (3/8" flare to 1/4" flare) and followed it with a short length of 666-4 hose to connect to the AN-816-4D sized fitting (1/4" flare to 1/8" NPT) return fitting on the fuel tank. Though, now I see that there is an AN816-6-2D which will connect a 3/8" flare to a 1/8" NPT. That was not available from ACS a couple years ago when I did my plumbing. Considering what I'd have to go through to remove that length of 666-4, I think it will remain the way it is unless I find it leaks. The rule of thumb I use for my AN-fitting experiments is the AN-number on the fitting usually signifies the size of the tubing it will connect to in 16 ths of an inch: AN-2 = 2/16" = 1/8", AN-3 = 3/16", AN-4 = 4/16" = 1/4" or AN-6 = 6/16" = 3/8". But this isn't a perfect hard and fast law, I have a small stock of fittings I thought would work, but didn't. Sometimes you just have to buy a couple and see how they fit. At prices from $0.50 to $1.5 each, you can afford to try a couple fitting sizes to see what goes. I make sure I mark examples I purchase with their size so I can refer to them later. Another excellent source of AN fittings is http://www.anplumbing.com/ from Earls Performance Products. Earl carries a heck of a lot more types and styles of AN fittings, hoses, odds and ends than ACS. They sure seem to be the same quality stuff that ACS sells. Earl also has fittings to go from metric threads to AN fittings. Anybody else out there have other ideas, suggestions, comments, please chime in. Good building and great flying, Bob Borger
